Reviews for Anantara Plaza Nice Hotel

Good, but some improvements could help.

We stayed here during the first week of October and overall had a lovely stay. I would give it a solid four out of five. There’s a lot to like, and the potential for a full five star experience is certainly there, but a few things certainly fell short. Starting with the good, the location is excellent. Old Nice is easily accessible, the newer parts of the city are within walking distance, and the Mediterranean is less than five minutes away. We were also lucky enough to be upgraded to the presidential suite, which was spacious and lovely, with a gorgeous sea view and a large balcony. For the most part, the staff were wonderful. They were friendly, approachable, willing to help, and welcoming without being stuffy. We also felt the hotel offered good value overall, although some aspects of the room and service left us wanting a little more from a five star property. They also kindly stored our main bags while we visited Barcelona, even though we would be staying at a different hotel when we returned to Nice. That was a real convenience and something we very much appreciated. But some of the cons: There was a small leak in the bathroom ceiling that occasionally dripped on us while we were brushing our teeth or getting ready at the vanity. Granted, it was a slow drip, perhaps once every couple of minutes, but enough that we had to put a towel on the floor. Not knowing where the water was coming from made it a little off putting. There was no turndown service during our stay, and housekeeping was just okay. The bed was made and towels were replenished, but used dishes and garbage was sometimes left behind. The bathtub items were also not replenished and the pillows were horrifically uncomfortable. Our check in experience also could have been smoother. We arrived early and were told our room would not be ready until 3 p.m., which was understandable. When we checked back around 2:30, we were invited to wait in the upstairs bar and told someone would bring us our key as soon as the room was ready. We thought that was a nice touch. While we were there, guests at two other tables had their keys delivered at 3, but ours never arrived. We eventually finished our drinks, returned to the now very busy lobby, and waited for our keys there, only to be told they had already been ready. That made it especially frustrating, since we had been specifically directed upstairs and assured someone would bring them to us. Breakfast at the restaurant was another disappointment. We ordered eggs Benedict, and the hollandaise sauce came out cold. Not lukewarm, cold enough that I actually Googled whether this might be a cultural difference before saying anything. The server took it back, but the replacement arrived with equally cold sauce. When I mentioned it again, the response began to feel a little dismissive. We were told the wind between the kitchen and our table must have cooled it down, which didn’t feel like a convincing explanation. Having someone check the sauce before bringing out another plate would have been appreciated. On another evening, getting ice delivered to the room took 30 minutes. I called room service, reached voicemail, and left a message requesting ice. After ten minutes without a response, I had no idea whether anyone had received the message, so I called back. I reached voicemail again and politely followed up on the request. Another ten minutes passed with no response or acknowledgment, I called the front desk and was told they would try to help. After waiting a few more minutes, I went downstairs to follow up where the receptionist was repeatedly trying to reach room service by walkie talkie without an answer repeatedly. I stood there for about five minutes before someone from room service finally appeared and had what sounded like a frustrated exchange in French with the receptionist who was helping me. I couldn’t understand what was said, so I can’t say whether it had anything to do with my request, but it made the interaction feel awkward. The ice was delivered shortly afterward. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, and I would stay here again. The location, sea view, and generally welcoming staff were real highlights. However, the maintenance and service issues kept it from feeling like a full five star experience. We stayed at another hotel when we returned to Nice after Barcelona and didn’t encounter the same issues, which I think made the difference more noticeable. A little more consistency and attention to detail would go a long way here.

Excellent location for this beautiful hotel!!

Excellent location for this beautiful hotel, check in was friendly and relaxing. The junior suite was very nicely furnished and really impeccable, the large bathroom had nice amenities and perfectly prepared. There was a small issue with the room and it was dealt with the utmost professionalism. Breakfast is on the rooftop with a lovely view and an amazing food selection. I want to congratulate all the staff (doorman, reception, breakfast, housekeeping and concierge) for their genuine help and friendliness during our stay. I would certainly recommend this hotel.
