Reviews for Boscolo Nice

Wish I could give this place a 0! Worst 5-star hotel I’ve ever stayed in

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

We have just spent five nights at the Boscolo Hotel in Nice, having booked what was advertised as their best suite, and unfortunately it was one of the most disappointing luxury hotel experiences we've ever had. When you book a five-star hotel and upgrade to the highest category of suite, you expect a certain level of service. Sadly, that simply wasn't there. On our first morning, there was no milk provided in the room at all. By the second morning, this had been replaced with a few basic milk capsules, which is hardly what you'd expect when staying in the hotel's top suite. I messaged reception asking if a jug of fresh milk could be sent to the room, but my message was never responded to and nothing ever arrived. On another morning, we tried calling room service for coffees, but nobody answered the phone. I messaged again, and once again received no response. One of the reasons we chose this hotel was because it advertises access to its private beach. When we decided to spend a day there, we were simply told it was fully booked. At no point during check-in, or beforehand, were we told that reservations were required. Considering we were staying in the hotel's top suite, I would have expected either guaranteed access or, at the very least, to have been asked on arrival which days we'd like to reserve. Instead, there was no apology and no attempt to offer an alternative or resolve the situation. The final straw came at checkout. During our stay, we booked a yacht experience through the hotel costing over £7,000. The day before, I messaged reception asking what time we needed to come down for our transfer. I was given a time and never once informed there would be an additional charge for the hotel car. The yacht experience itself was fantastic, but when checking out we discovered we'd been charged €70 for a 10-minute journey to the marina – somewhere we could easily have walked or taken an inexpensive Uber. When I explained that we'd never been told there would be a charge, the receptionist, Sulliman (who had actually replied to my message arranging the transfer), simply shrugged his shoulders and made us feel as though we were unreasonable for questioning it. There was no understanding, no goodwill gesture and certainly no attempt to resolve the issue. It would have cost the hotel very little to remove the charge, especially given the amount we'd already spent, but instead we were made to feel like an inconvenience. Throughout the stay, everything seemed to come with an extra charge, but what was missing entirely was the level of care, attention and hospitality you'd expect from a genuine five-star hotel. We never felt valued, looked after or that our concerns mattered. Every issue was met with indifference rather than a desire to put things right. This hotel may advertise itself as five-star, but in our experience the service fell well below that standard. We left feeling disappointed, frustrated and genuinely shocked by the lack of customer care. We certainly won't be returning, and based on our experience, I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone looking for the level of service a five-star hotel should provide.

Nice stay BUT…

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

We were in a deluxe room with balcony on the front of the building room number 214 mid June. Overall it was okay, but unfortunately doesn’t meet the standards of a 5 star hotel, which it says it is, or the price paid. The entrance and Spa were very nice and the best part of the place. Knew it was our honeymoon so brought us a bottle of champagne so that was very nice. Location is safe and close to old town and the coast, but no ocean views. the bed was big but two twin mattresses pushed together so there’s a dip in the middle that you roll into during the night. There is no coffee maker! You would think there would be a nice nespresso or similar with pods, but you just dissolvable coffee packets and you boil water in a tea kettle to pour over. I think this may not be normal for the rooms because when we would call and ask for more coffee, see below, they were very confused why we needed packets and brought us pods. One male staffer even got quite frustrated with me on the phone about it. Perhaps ours is the only room that doesn’t have one? But we booked much better than a base room and were never offered a coffee maker when they finally realized. Very odd. Husband is cranky before coffee so it was critical for us :) Maid service didn’t refill all items every day as we had to ask for additional coffee every day and body wash soap. Sink pedestal in the middle of the room with curtain to separate is awkward and doesn’t seem a 5 star bathroom.

Bad experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience has been extremely disappointing, especially for a hotel that claims to be a 5-star luxury property. From the first day, I encountered several serious issues: the room telephone was not working, the shower floor was damaged and unsafe, and there was a strong sewage smell coming from the bathroom drain during use. I booked and paid for accommodation for 3 guests and paid a deposit for each person . Despite being assured twice that the extra bed would be provided, I was later informed that the hotel had no extra beds available. When I requested a duvet or proper bedding solution, I was given towels instead, which is simply unacceptable for a hotel of this category. What made the situation even more frustrating was the lack of responsiveness. Every time I needed assistance, I had to go down to the reception desk in person because the room phone was not working and requests were not being followed up properly. It also became apparent that the hotel is understaffed. I was informed that requests were delayed due to a lack of staff, and at one point the reception employee appeared to be handling housekeeping-related tasks as well. This raises serious concerns about service standards and operational management in a property advertised as a luxury 5-star hotel. The issue is not only the maintenance problems but also the overall level of service. Guests paying premium rates should not have to repeatedly chase basic requests or be told that essential items are unavailable. In my opinion, this property does not currently meet the standards expected of a true 5-star hotel and should be reassessed accordingly. The location may be excellent, but the quality of service, staffing, maintenance, and guest experience falls far below what is advertised. Very disappointing experience, especially considering the price paid and the expectations associated with a 5-star hotel.

Overpriced and Overrated Hotel with Multiple Issues

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

My husband and I spent 3 nights at the Boscolo as part of a Viking company pre-cruise package, and at first we were impressed by the facade and interior decor. The historic hotel has been remodeled in recent years and is very white and bright inside. The location is not central to the city, and it requires quite a walk to get to the beach or the Old Town area. The hotel does have multiple restaurants and shops close by in the neighborhood, so that was helpful. Desk staff were always friendly but struggled with English, and we don't speak French. The room we were assigned, however, had multiple problems. It was located in the interior of the hotel structure, just above a court yard, which did help minimize city street noise. However, the room was very very tiny, with only the king bed, tiny closet, a small desk, a tv, a small fridge, an instant coffee maker, an ottoman, and no chair. The bathroom consisted of a tiny sink with almost no counter that was in the room, and a toilet and bidet in a separate space with a noisy glass door that didn't close completely and was right by the bed. We struggled to find a place to put our luggage. I didn't expect a huge room, being in Europe, but this one was really small with barely room to move around. However, the bigger issues were with the tiled shower stall that stunk with an ammonia smell (we kept the door shut) and multiple maintenance issues, including a loose door jam that prevented the lock from fully engaging, a burned out light bulb, and things attached to the room and shower walls that were close to falling off. There were also some missing tiles in the toilet stall area. I went to the front desk to ask that the door jam be fixed, and they couldn't understand what I was trying to tell them, but sent a maintenance man to the room. I had to point to the door frame, and then he understood and came back with a screw driver to try and fix it. We were concerned that the lock could be easily forced if someone wanted to get in. I would have mentioned the other issues that needed fixing but due to communication issues, let it go. I will say that the bed was comfortable with a duvet (no blanket or top sheet which is common in Europe). We also enjoyed sitting in the quiet interior courtyard, although some of the plants in pots were dead and it's also a place for smokers to go, and we enjoyed the view from the restaurant on top of the hotel over the city. Food there was good. The breakfast buffet in their restaurant was included in our Viking package, and there was a wide variety of tasty hot and cold foods, which was great, but due to other larger tour groups staying in the hotel, sometimes when we arrived most of the tables were full and much of the food was gone. We stood around not knowing what to do. Restaurant staff were obviously overwhelmed and couldn't keep up. We talked with another couple in our tour Viking tour group, and apparently their room was much larger than ours, but faced a very noisy street that kept them awake. If ever in Nice again, we would not stay at this overpriced, supposedly 5-star hotel, which only gets a 3 star rating from me. I can not recommend this hotel.

Superficially Five Star - not in reality

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

The food at the Rooftop Restaurant was good but it was not matched by the service expected from a Five Star Hotel. The staff are inadequately trained. I ordered a glass of wine to accompany my meal. Instead of bringing the bottle to the table & offering a small tasting the wine was just brought out in a glass. Not only did I not have any idea about the maker or the vintage. The wine was not served at the correct temperature. If I had visited an English Pub & was dining at the bar, the service might have just about been acceptable but the service did not reflect the Five Star price. The most expensive poor dining experience I have ever had. There are an inadequate number of sockets in the room. There was no socket by the bed to charge my phone & Apple Watch. The breakfast service was also chaotic The Porters were the helpful and efficient.
