Reviews for Hyatt Regency Nice Palais De La Mediterranee

Beautiful Hotel and Wonderful Staff, but Disappointing Sleep Quality

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

We spent two nights at the Hyatt Regency Nice Palais de la Méditerranée during our honeymoon. Overall, we had a good experience, but a few issues, particularly the uncomfortable beds, kept this from being the five-star stay we expected. We booked our stay using Hyatt points and then paid an additional €500 to upgrade to an ocean-facing room with a terrace. Given the significant cost of the upgrade and the hotel’s five-star rating, we had fairly high expectations. First, the positives. The hotel itself is beautiful, and the service and staff are truly top-notch. Two employees deserve special recognition. David at the front desk kindly offered us complimentary breakfast after learning we were on our honeymoon, which was a lovely gesture. Florian at the concierge desk also helped us secure a reservation at a difficult-to-book restaurant. We really appreciated both of them. Our bathroom was another highlight. The shower was spectacular, with excellent water pressure and plenty of hot water. Unfortunately, the beds were a major disappointment. The mattresses are exceptionally firm, to the point of being uncomfortable, and I struggled to sleep more than a couple of hours each night. The pillows were equally bad. We requested non-feather pillows in hopes of finding something more comfortable, but those were heavy and just as flat as the originals. I seriously considered going to FNAC to purchase our own pillows! Thankfully, we were only staying two nights. There were also several smaller issues that, while minor individually, collectively suggested a lack of attention to detail that I wouldn’t expect at a five-star property. The hand soap and body lotion dispensers in our bathroom had been switched, and it wasn’t something we could simply correct by swapping the covers. The hotel also attempted to deliver a welcome gift while we were out, but left no instructions for arranging delivery when we returned and never attempted to deliver it again. We also noticed maintenance issues, including a nonfunctioning bank of elevator buttons and significant chipped paint on the canopy stands in the restaurant. None of these smaller issues would have been particularly concerning on their own, but taken together, they detracted from the overall experience. Ultimately, this is a beautiful hotel with genuinely lovely staff who clearly care about their guests. Unfortunately, the uncomfortable mattresses and terrible pillows made it difficult to enjoy our stay fully. A good night’s sleep is a basic expectation at any hotel, especially a five-star property where guests are paying a premium. Having used points for the stay and spent another €500 on the room upgrade, the lack of comfort was especially disappointing. By the end of our two nights, we were genuinely looking forward to moving on to our next destination just so we could get some rest. With more comfortable bedding and a little more attention to maintenance and room details, this could easily have been a five-star experience.

We spent 5 days here in the South of France with Hôtel Palais de la Méditerranée as our home base for our honeymoon. We couldn't have been happier! Beautiful, upscale, friendly staff, amazing details, great food, amazing rooms, we will absolutely be staying here next Summer!

My experience was not good

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Location - Good Water view - mostly blocked by the protected front facade Rooms - just renovated so clean Bed - extremely hard, very uncomfortable if you don't like sleeping on a brick (soft pillows though) Bathroom - roomy but water floods the bathroom from poor shower door design Gym - better than average for a hotel but limited quantity of equipment Pool - small outside area but includes an inside area which will be useful in cold weather Front desk - friendly but check in process is very long and would be long waits. No priority check-in area. For that matter no Hyatt branding at all anywhere, not sure what the whole strategy is with these unbound collections but they might as well not be associated with Hyatt's, which is a mistake in my opinion because Marriott and Hilton emphasize their branding on their properties During my stay communications and operations were a complete failure which caused our stay to be severely impacted, not what we were planning when we booked a "5 star" property. Also this hotel labels itself as a resort, but there are no resort amenities, no spa, and no beach facilities, so not sure what qualifies it as a resort. Our renovated room had several issues with it that I assume will be addressed as some point, but when I tried to reach somebody other than front desk attendants to provide such feedback "nobody was available" during our stay. This was very disappointing for me, if you are a Hyatt person unfortunately you don't have other options in Nice, but be aware that this may not be a great experience for you and its a very high cost.

Fantastic! Perfect location and warm staff

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We loved our stay here!! The renovations are extremely nice. The staff are warm and welcoming. My wife and I stayed 6 nights here and loved everything about our stay. From the hand written notes to the extra personal touches, we felt really cared for. The hotel is extremely convenient to walk around Nice. It sits directly on the promenade and only a few steps away from Old Town. Busses and trams were convenient to get to as well as calling an Uber. We were always glad to come back after our daily trips to this hotel. I would highly encourage anyone to get a room facing the ocean. We did not and our view was pretty boring. It wasn’t a bummer to us as we knew we didn’t pay extra to get the view. We also didn’t stay in our room most days as we were out exploring. If this is important to you, then pay up and get the ocean view.
