Inspired by traditional Omani construction techniques using local stones, the Alila Jabal Akhdar creates a uniquely relaxing environment, from the pool to the spacious suites that look out to mesmerising views of the cliff and mountains. Within the stone exteriors, the resort’s minimalist style blends warmth and colours that reflect the region’s culture. Although an uncommon travel destination, the luxury and adventure of Oman awaits you at the Alila Jabal Akhdar.

We stayed four nights at Alila Jabal Akhdar over Valentine’s Day, traveling as a family with a toddler. Booking through Hyatt was straightforward. We rented a car in Muscat and drove ourselves, very doable. Roads are modern and easy to navigate with Google Maps. The climb up the mountain is smooth; the descent is steep but manageable with engine braking. We had a standard AWD rental and no issues. If you’re a confident driver, this is not a difficult journey. The property itself is spectacular. The final approach through the mountains is stunning, and arriving feels like stepping onto another planet. The hotel sits dramatically on the edge of a cliff, secluded and impressive. Valet (included) was seamless, and check-in by the fireplace with coffee and dates set the tone immediately. We contacted the hotel ahead of time for a crib and private stargazing—both were handled smoothly, and the crib was in the room on arrival. Breakfast was the standout meal every day, consistently excellent. We did the main restaurant for Valentine’s dinner, which was solid, but otherwise preferred the more relaxed cliffside restaurant. There’s a strong activity program. With a toddler, we couldn’t fully take advantage of the more adventurous options (like hiking), but we still enjoyed lighter activities—archery, private stargazing, coffee sampling, and some of the kid programs. If we return, it will be when our child is older to fully utilize what the property offers. What really made the stay was the staff. Warm, genuine, and consistently great with our son. A few highlights: - Putri, who babysat during our stargazing - Alanoud, who led an excellent stargazing session and archery - Yazeed at breakfast (almost convinced us to visit Jordan next!) - Abdul at breakfast—heading off to his wedding (congrats) - Maybelline at check-in for a great welcome And especially Ati, easily the highlight of our stay. She was incredible with our son, and the kind of person you remember long after you leave. You forget details, but you remember how a place makes you feel. Alila (and Ati) made us feel great. A unique property, run by people who genuinely care.

A beautiful hotel in a stunning location in the mountains. Superb food and excellent service. Interesting activities offered on site. Although I would wholly recommend a stay, my one disappointment was the cost of private tours to historic locations about 1.5 hours away. A fixed price of £620 per couple (with no concession for an individual was prohibitively expensive. I was surpised that a small group tour (say 6 people) was not available which could have lowered the cost.

Superb location, beautifully scenic and tranquil atmosphere - a stunning location to wind down for a few days. Accommodation and food were outstanding in all respects and the staff attentive but unintrusive.
