Perched 2,000 meters above sea level in Oman’s Al Hajar Mountains, Alila Jabal Akhdar is a secluded sanctuary designed to blend seamlessly into its rugged surroundings. Inspired by traditional Omani forts, the resort combines locally sourced stone, wooden rafters, and authentic regional craftsmanship with sleek contemporary architecture, creating a striking balance of old-world heritage and modern luxury. Suites and villas feature expansive terraces, floor-to-ceiling views of the dramatic canyons, and a strong connection to the surrounding landscape, while curated Alila Journeys immerse guests in the culture, history, and natural beauty of the region. Luxury travelers can enjoy cliff-edge dining experiences beneath the stars, guided mountain hikes, stargazing, infinity pools overlooking the peaks, and deeply personalized service that makes the resort feel both exclusive and restorative.
Dining and wellness are central to the Alila experience. Juniper Restaurant, named after the trees that grow throughout the highlands, serves refined local and international cuisine inspired by the golden age of Arabic gastronomy, with panoramic views of the Al Hajar Mountains as the backdrop. For lighter fare and afternoon relaxation, the Rose Lounge offers shaded terraces and elegant mountain views. Wellness at Spa Alila takes a holistic approach, incorporating Asian healing traditions with locally inspired treatments using ingredients such as frankincense, juniper, and rose harvested from the surrounding region.

We stayed at Alila Jabal Akhdar for five nights, and overall, the highlight of the experience was undoubtedly the spectacular mountain views. The location is truly exceptional, with scenery that is difficult to find anywhere else. The staff were generally friendly, welcoming, and helpful throughout our stay. We were welcomed with Arabic coffee and dates, which was a lovely touch. However, after a long drive from the hot weather, and knowing that Jabal Akhdar is surrounded by beautiful fresh produce, we would have personally appreciated a cold, refreshing welcome drink instead. Our room was comfortable, and I particularly liked how the colour palette complemented the surrounding natural environment. We were also welcomed with a small selection of fruit — a fig, an apple, and a prune — which was a thoughtful gesture. Unfortunately, the fig had hundreds of small white ants on it, which was quite unpleasant to discover. Housekeeping initially cleaned the area with a dry cloth, but unfortunately, over the following two nights, we experienced an ant problem throughout the room, which became quite distressing and made it difficult to relax. The team eventually moved us to another similar room and were kind enough to offer an upgrade to a higher-category room. We appreciated their efforts, although after moving once already, we simply wanted to settle in and enjoy our stay rather than move rooms again. Breakfast was one of the more enjoyable parts of our stay. The fresh fruit was excellent, and the fresh juices were particularly delicious. Mirage, Honey, and Jamal were all very kind, friendly, and professional, and their service was much appreciated. I was also very happy to meet the chef on several occasions during our stay. We also arranged a special dining setup, which was beautiful, particularly because of the stunning view. Unfortunately, on another day our dinner experience did not meet the expectations we had for a property of this calibre. On one occasion, the meat was served very undercooked, with a significant amount of blood covering the plate, which was disappointing. Overall, we expected a considerably higher standard of food and, unfortunately, ended up visiting other places to eat during our stay. A special thank you to Marwa, who warmly welcomed us, gave us a tour of the property, and explained the different activities available. Her hospitality was greatly appreciated. Alila Jabal Akhdar has an extraordinary setting and some of the most breathtaking mountain views you can experience. The staff are warm and helpful, and there are certainly many beautiful aspects to the property. However, given the standard and positioning of the hotel, we expected a higher level of consistency, particularly when it came to the room experience and dining. The views are truly the star of this property, and with some attention to the issues mentioned above, the overall guest experience could be significantly improved.

An exceptional experience from beginning to end. Alila Jabal Akhdar is a truly special property, with a spectacular setting, beautiful atmosphere and an outstanding level of service. I felt genuinely welcomed and cared for throughout my stay. A special thank you to Mohamed, Assad and Alexa who welcome me. I would especially like to recognize Mohamed, whose recommendation brought me to Alila Jabal Akhdar in the first place. His genuine passion for Oman, deep knowledge of the region and generous way of sharing its culture made my experience particularly meaningful. Beyond being extremely professional and attentive, he has a rare ability to make guests feel connected to the place rather than simply visiting it. I am very grateful to him for making my stay so memorable.

⭐ 1/5 — Extremely Disappointing Experience My husband and I drove approximately 2.5 hours all the way from Muscat specifically to visit Alila Jabal Akhdar. After such a long journey, we arrived only to be told that we were not even allowed to enter because we did not have a prior reservation. What made the situation even more frustrating was that we were not asking to enter for free. We clearly offered to pay for a day pass or even make a booking immediately, yet we were still refused entry. I have travelled extensively and visited many hotels and resorts around the world, and I have rarely experienced such an inflexible and unwelcoming approach toward potential paying guests. A luxury hospitality brand should understand that hospitality begins from the moment a guest arrives — not only after their name appears on a reservation list. We made a 2.5-hour journey expecting to experience the resort and potentially book a full stay, only to be turned away at the entrance despite being completely willing to pay. The entire experience left us feeling unwelcome, disappointed, and as though our time and effort meant absolutely nothing. At the very least, such a strict entry policy should be communicated extremely clearly so that visitors do not waste five hours on a round trip only to discover it at the gate. Unfortunately, instead of leaving excited to return for a future stay, we left with a very negative impression of Alila Jabal Akhdar and its approach to hospitality.

Hi Alila team, I just wanted to say a big thank you for such a wonderful stay. I truly enjoyed every moment, and the fig harvest activity was one of my favorite parts of the experience. I really appreciated how supportive, caring, and attentive your team was throughout our stay. The room was beautiful, and the view was absolutely amazing. Thank you for making our visit so special. Inshallah, it definitely won’t be our last visit! Amani
