It felt almost like 'coming home'....

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

This time again, we thouroughly enjoyed our return visit to the Hotel, although we had planned to stay at a Boutique style hotel for a change (see below). - Located on a hill overlooking the beach the situation of Huis Ter Duin is stunning every time. Extremely large entrance hall, bar with comfortable lounge and open fire, two inhouse restaurants, plus one on the beach, indoor pool, large indoor and outdoor parking. Although the reservation was made only 15 minutes prior to arrival (see below) we were given a lovely seaside view 'Charming Large' room. The check-in was very pleasant and felt like 'coming home' - thank you to the very pleasant and efficient young lady whose name I unfortunately forgot. A small welcome pastry was delivered to the room shortly after arrival - thank you! The room and bathroom (with bath and shower) are comfortable, everything functions, despite the fact that renovations are probably planned for the near future. We found the staff in all departments friendly, efficient and (with very few exceptions) up to their task. A particiular compliment to the receptionist (see above) and to Olga from Ukraine serving breakfast. We enjoyed the two meals taken at La Terrasse Restaurant - tastefully prepared and pleasantly served. We even tried Dutch Pinot Noir! We had originally made reservations at a small boutique hotel in Noordwijk, but on arrival found out that it was a building site due to ongoing renovation works on the ground floor, which did not suit us.

Perfect scenery for a family gathering

Grand Hotel Huis ter Duin is linking so many aspects of our family that it was the right place to come together for a weekend of remembrance and celebrations. With an exquisite diner in restaurant Breakers and the view and use of the beach throughout the weekend was the perfect scenery for the occasion. You feel royal when staying here and everyone at Huis ter Duin contributed to exact that feeling!

Perfect beach getaway

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 months ago

We spontaneously booked a night at the beach with our family to celebrate my husbands birthday. We couldn't have wished for a better beach birthday getaway! We felt so looked after and the location is like no other. Thank you to the team for making us feel special and making our memory even more noteworthy with a room upgrade dreams are made of! We will be back for sure!

Disappointing for a Five-Star Hotel We stayed for three nights in a suite at this hotel – at a rate of €1,000 per night – and were thoroughly disappointed. For this price and a hotel claiming to be five-star, the standard was completely unacceptable. On the positive side, the hotel is in a great location and offers convenient parking, including an underground garage. Unfortunately, that’s where the positives end. The suite was noticeably outdated, with tired furnishings and in urgent need of renovation. However, the biggest issue was the lack of cleanliness – both in the room and throughout the public areas. Dusty sofas and tables were placed in the hallways near the elevators, and the dust was present throughout the hotel. This is simply a no-go for a property in this category. Housekeeping was poor: beds were made and the bathroom was superficially wiped, but the room was never truly clean. Particularly unacceptable was the fact that, in a suite for three guests, we only had two cups, two glasses, and two balcony chairs. Even worse, dirty dishes – including used coffee cups from breakfast and empty glasses – were not cleared away during our entire four-day stay. We had to live with dirty dishes in our room for the whole time. That is completely unacceptable at this price point. Service overall was severely lacking. Staff presence was minimal. Occasionally, there was a doorman available to help with luggage, but otherwise we barely saw any hotel staff during our entire stay. For a five-star property, this lack of attention and hospitality is simply not acceptable. Our experience in the hotel restaurant further confirmed the overall impression. After waiting 15 minutes, we had to ask for menus ourselves. The starter arrived 20 minutes later, and the main course another 30 minutes after that – all while the restaurant was only about half full, with around 15 guests. Conclusion: All show, no substance. This hotel was absolutely not worth the €1,000 per night. The quality of the furnishings, cleanliness, service, and attention to detail are more in line with a three-star property. For a hotel that markets itself as five-star, the experience was extremely disappointing.
