About the Hotel

Econdido Oaxaca is the new addition to the Grupo Habita collection of unique hotels that use architecture, design, and history to provide an authentic experience to guests. Tucked away in one of the most culturally-rich places in Mexico - Oaxaca City - resides Escondido Oaxaca, a Hotel whose main mission is to represent all that is authentic. We have recovered the original construction to house the restaurant, bar, “Culture Room”, patio and four rooms. A contemporary tower was added to the back of the Hotel where eight more rooms are located (two with patios and six with balconies). A mix of old and new; honoring the great wealth of Oaxaca: the savoir-faire of its artisans. Note that this hotel can be noisy.

We were in Oaxaca for a wedding and had a lovely stay at Hotel Escondido. Would return.

Would highly recommend - staff very accommodating - upstairs amenities not suitable for children

I would highly recommend this hotel. We came to Oaxaca for a wedding. My wife and I brought our toddler with us and the staff were very accommodating. The doorman showed our daughter the fish and entertained her when she refused to nap, and they provided a crib for our stay equipped with sheets and pillows. Some things to note - the rooms do not have mini-fridges, but the kitchen staff let us store her milk in their commercial fridge. The pool and upstairs areas are definitely not suitable for mobile children - there are large drop offs and big spaces they can fit through to fall multiple stories. (Most stairs in Oaxaca are similar, without railings). This was fine for us, and we just took turns enjoying the pool during nap time. We stayed in room 2 and were able to enjoy the restaurant for drinks and patio right outside the room after she went to sleep at night while having the comfort of being right outside the door. The location is perfect, it is not on a busy street and is very close walking distance to everything you could want to do in Oaxaca. We felt safe, cared for, and extremely comfortable. Thank you!

We booked this hotel as a birthday gift/ getaway and it was everything we hoped for and more. From the warm welcome, amazing welcome drinks and gorgeous property to the excellent food and friendly staff. If I could I would stay here every night of our trip. The room was exceptional, every detail of the place is gorgeous, thoughtful and well designed. Thank you!

Not Ideal for Marriott Elite Members: Mixed Experience at This Hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

I recently stayed at this property after debating between it and Otro Oaxaca - both very beautiful locations. As a Marriott Platinum member, I chose this hotel assuming I’d receive benefits like complimentary breakfast and late checkout. Unfortunately, I learned at check-in that the hotel has its own terms and conditions: when booking with points or a free night award, breakfast is not included but if you pay cash for the same night, it is. In the end, the breakfast wasn’t particularly memorable, so I was better off exploring the excellent cafés and restaurants nearby. I also requested a 4pm check-out as I had an 8pm flight, however, that was not possible. At first I was told that 1pm would need to be the check-out time due to low availability. I was later informed that a 2pm might be possible and ultimately, they were able to accommodate me with a 3pm check-out and I was super grateful. The hotel’s location is also worth noting: it sits on a busy intersection, which makes the pool area feel far from relaxing and also enjoying my vacation time as early morning traffic was pretty hard to tune out. On my last night, a few cockroaches appeared in my room; the front desk was quick to provide Raid, but it definitely impacted my overall experience. It would have been great to have a screen door so guests can enjoy the views without worrying about critters coming in, though I understand that may not align with the hotel’s aesthetic. While the staff were consistently kind and accommodating, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel or choose to stay again. Next time, I’ll likely opt for Otro Oaxaca, which is in a quieter area or better yet, may chose City Center as I would be able to receive my full benefits as a Marriott Platinum Elite.

Charming hotel and earnest staff but needs work to justify the price.

It is a charming hotel with a pretty courtyard and rooftop bar. We stayed 5 nights. The first night we stayed in one of the tower “balcony” rooms because they couldn’t accommodate us in the room we booked for the last 4 nights. The balcony room was extremely small and woefully lacked closet and storage space. In both rooms we stayed in, lighting was poor and there were far too few electrical outlets (1 at each bedside). In the 2nd larger room we stayed in, the electric shade for a very large glass skylight (more of a glass ceiling), broke and had to remain closed for the last 3 days. The street noise level from cars, buses and trucks, makes enjoying much of the charm of the hotel, bar, restaurant and courtyard difficult. In the morning the street noise also makes its way into the rooms with outside walls. The staff, while very polite and earnest, need some additional help. Being asked your name 3 times at breakfast gets annoying. If the staff member doesn’t use your name, the question loses its purpose. Similarly, having to repeat your order several times because staff don’t write down the order can also irritate. Breakfast was included in the room price and coffee and fresh juice were included with breakfast, but we were charged extra for tea. That seemed a little odd. For a hotel that charges around $500 USD per night, more should be expected.
