Nestled in the bohemian enclave of Ojai is the historic Ojai Valley Inn, a luxurious retreat that has been one of California’s most revered destinations since opening in 1923. Located just 90 minutes north of Los Angeles, the resort overlooks the unspoiled natural beauty of its mountain surroundings and celebrates the relaxed glamour of California’s past to create an unparalleled resort experience that is quintessentially Ojai. The resort recently turned the page to a new chapter with the unveiling of enhancements that further elevate the resort experience while remaining true to its authentic spirit and include: chic outdoor oasis, Indigo Pool; new signature restaurant Olivella; the thoughtfully refreshed, historic Wallace Neff Heritage Bar, and Libbey’s, a fresh artisan market, café and boutique.

We have stayed at many luxury properties and were surprised that several aspects of the experience here fell significantly short of what one would expect from a resort at this level. 1. Concierge Communication – Many comparable luxury properties immediately establish a WhatsApp or SMS concierge thread so guests can easily communicate with staff and make requests. Without an efficient communication channel, this made service feel slow and fragmented. 2. Valet SMS System – The valet text system repeatedly failed. Each time we texted for our vehicle, we received a message stating our valet tag number was invalid—even though we were using the exact number printed on the card provided. As a result, we had to call every time, which defeats the purpose. 3. Excessive Waivers – We were required to sign multiple waivers throughout our stay. A far more guest-friendly approach would be to have guests complete a single waiver at the start of the stay, ideally in advance, covering all applicable activities. 4. Internal Communication Breakdowns – There were several examples of poor coordination between staff: a) I informed the front desk that our son likely left his blue jump rope on a rental bike and asked if they could check with the bike shop. Instead, I was told the request would go to lost and found. The next day I asked the concierge and was told it would be forwarded. On the final day of our stay, I stopped by the bike shop myself and the jump rope was there. We never received a follow-up, and this could have been resolved immediately. b) I called to cancel Camp Oak so I could spend my birthday with my children, but was told I had missed the 24-hour cancellation window and would still be charged a 50% fee. We therefore proceeded with the reservation and arranged for the bell team to take the kids while my husband and I attended the Food & Wine Festival (12:30pm to 2:30pm). However, at 1:00 PM Camp Oak called to say a parent must physically sign the children in—something no one had mentioned earlier. This was surprising (first, I wasn't able to cancel without penalty, and then second, this was not mentioned ever) and created an unnecessary disruption that could have easily been avoided with proper communication. Despite all of this, and even knowing it was my birthday, no birthday treat was sent to the room.

This is one of the most beautiful locations. The grounds are immaculately maintained, the staff is incredible. The views are gorgeous. Very family friendly. They had a blue grass band playing live under the oak tree. Cant wait to return for business or personal.

Lovely mom and daughter weekend away. The resort is beautiful and service was impeccable. Every single resort employee we encountered was informative and helpful. Really impressed by the entire resort.

Swaddled in luxury care in the valley of the Ojai. If you can afford it - and even if it's a stretch - highly recommend. The staff are professionally attentive while being natural and excellent humans.

This trip was a last minute pivot from a golf vacation in Mexico. Ojai Valley Inn is a gem! We were so glad to have landed there and enjoyed the beautiful room overlooking the golf course! We enjoyed playing the course, sitting around the Indigo adult pool, using the fitness center… and dining at the Oak restaurant on the outdoor patio overlooking the course and some beautiful big oak trees. Service was top notch everywhere we went. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to use the resort bicycles for a ride into town…next time!
