A Gem in Osaka

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

The stay at W Osaka truly elevated my Kansai, Japan journey. In addition to irs great location, from the striking entrance and ambient lighting to the thoughtful design, decorations, and amenities in the guestroom, everything felt fresh and inspiring. I especially loved the chic coffee mug. It made every morning feel like a happy ritual. The breakfast served at Oh.lala...offered a splendid variety. I like their fruit options and local delights such as takoyaki (octopus balls). The service was attentive and friendly, too. Special thank you to Benson for the warm greeting card with a wish in my home language. A small but big touch! Highly recommend for anyone seeking that perfect blend of luxury and whimsy! Hat off to the team for making such an unforgettable experience!

Just had an incredible massage at W Spa. My therapist named Tomoko was truly gifted — intuitive, precise, and unbelievably relaxing. The sound healing was amazing, I left feeling lighter, aligned, and completely renewed. Highly recommend!

Breakfast Drama

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

I stayed at the W Osaka from Dec 1–3, 2025 with two other guests, booked through The Edit on Chase Travel. We stayed in the Fantastic Suite. While the room itself was fine, the stay quickly turned into one of the most uncomfortable and disappointing hospitality experiences I’ve ever had. First, the ‘complimentary upgrade if available’ was brushed off immediately. No explanation, no effort, not even the courtesy of checking. Just dismissed. Breakfast is where everything fell apart. Our reservation was a bed and breakfast rate for three guests. Plus, The Edit benefits include two breakfasts. Despite that, on the first morning the attendant handed us a bill. I explained the situation, she walked away without clarifying anything. I even approached her again before we left and she said everything was fine. So we assumed the misunderstanding was resolved. The next morning, the manager approached us—in front of other guests—to tell us only two breakfasts were included and we needed to pay for the third. The way he spoke to us felt accusatory and embarrassing, as if we had tried to cheat the system when we had done absolutely nothing wrong. It was deeply uncomfortable, especially after I had already attempted to clear things up the day before. What made this situation even more upsetting is that it made me question whether we were being treated differently because we are Chinese. I don’t know if the staff assumed I was more ‘Western’ or expected me to speak Japanese, but the tone shift and the way we were approached felt noticeably different from how other guests around us were treated. I genuinely hope that wasn’t the reason, but the experience made it hard not to wonder. To make matters worse, we ordered three lattes and only one arrived. We waited ten minutes before following up, which only heightened the feeling that we were being ignored or judged. The discomfort was so strong that all three of us lost our appetite and left after about twenty minutes. And to resolve the issue, I had to use my $100 property credit—something meant to enhance our stay—just to cover the extra breakfast charge. Instead of enjoying that credit on amenities or dining, it was wasted cleaning up a problem caused entirely by inconsistent communication and poor handling from the hotel. For a brand that prides itself on luxury and exceptional service, W Osaka made us feel unwelcome, singled out, and extremely uncomfortable. This was absolutely not the experience we expected, and certainly not the standard that a W property should ever deliver.
