Amani Boutique Hotel

We have just enjoyed a fantastic week at the Amani Boutique hotel. The hotel is spotlessly clean throughout and finished to a very high standard: The location just outside Paje is perfect with white sand and long stretches of almost empty beach. It was a 10 minute walk to the centre of Paje to watch the kite surfing. I’ve seen negative comments about the beach but we loved the dramatic tides as we could walk out onto the reef and explore the rock pools and sandbanks at low tide. But the most outstanding thing about this hotel are the staff from the housekeeping staff to the security guard all were extremely friendly and went out of their way to make us welcome. A special mention to Elizabeth for her warm welcome and attention throughout our stay. But the biggest thanks of all to Alfred, Soleman, Josephine, Pendo and Amina (? Sorry if I’ve spelt it wrong) They were all awesome, they went out of their way to make us welcome and their service was immaculate. Also - special mention to the chef David and the team. The 4 course à la carte menu each night was wonderfully presented and delicious We would love to return one day!

Our stay at Amani Boutique Hotel was wonderful. It’s a charming, intimate property with excellent service, great security, and exceptional value. We especially appreciated the attention to safety. There were dedicated Maasai security staff at both the front and beach entrances, and the hotel even recorded the name and license plate of any taxi that was not arranged through them. The hotel is located directly on Paje Beach, which is beautiful, although it’s important to know that the ocean isn’t always ideal for swimming because of the dramatic tides. During low tide, the water recedes quite far, but we still really enjoyed walking along the beach—the sand is incredibly soft. As the tide comes in, the water becomes calm and shallow, which also makes this area very popular for kitesurfing. There are quite a few vendors along the beach who may approach you repeatedly to sell tours or souvenirs. We found that politely continuing on without engaging was the easiest way to enjoy our walks. The food at Amani was another highlight. Breakfast had a great selection, and dinner was a delicious four-course à la carte experience each evening. Our favorite night was their Swahili Night, which started with a pre-dinner happy hour where guests could mingle, followed by live entertainment, dancing, and a wonderful Swahili buffet. What truly made our stay special, though, was the staff. Throughout our 15 days in Tanzania, we were continually touched by how warm, kind, and genuinely hospitable the people were, and Amani was no exception. A special thank you to Alfred and Josephine at the restaurant, who regularly took care of us. They quickly learned our names, were incredibly kind and attentive, and became such a memorable part of our stay. We also want to recognize Elizabeth, the Resident Manager. Before we even realized she was the manager, she stood out to us for her warm personality, attentiveness, and genuine engagement with guests. She later led the Swahili Night and was clearly focused on making sure everything ran smoothly and everyone was enjoying themselves. The property is also exceptionally clean. The team is constantly maintaining and cleaning the hotel throughout the day, which we really appreciated. Overall, Amani is a beautiful, peaceful boutique hotel with wonderful food, thoughtful service, and an incredibly caring team. We would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a more intimate stay in Paje. One additional tip for travelers: personally, we would skip a Stone Town visit. We found it very crowded, hectic, dirty, and run-down, and for us there wasn’t enough to see to make it worthwhile. We much preferred spending our time on the water and would highly recommend booking a private or small-group island excursion instead. Our Pungume Island trip was one of the highlights of our time in Zanzibar, with beautiful water, snorkeling, gorgeous sandbanks and a much more relaxing and memorable experience.

A big thank you to the entire team at the Amani Hotel. The entire staff goes out of their way to take care of the guests. We spent 12 very pleasant days at the Amani Hotel. I highly recommend this hotel. The hotel’s location is exceptional, close to beach restaurants and kitesurfing schools. I hope to return someday.
