Reviews for Hammock Beach Golf Resort & Spa

awful, outdated and understaffed

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 9 hours ago

do not book a conference here and or just a stay!!! we had over 300 attending this conference, then I had extended my stay to have my wife come down for a mini vacation Only one restaurant was open for lunch. Breakfast took 90 minutes and understaffed. No entertainment except for a DJ we needed to travel offsite for many meals and enter Condition of the resort very outdated and deteriorating, they charge 3% on every credit card transaction and they do not accept cash

Well taken care of.

We were on a golf vacation with 12 men. We were taken care of very well, from start to finish. Mr Hauer and Danny were great handling our golf excursions. The staff was wonderful in handling the resort part. The Atlantic Grilles great dining options all day. The Bang Bang Shrimp is the best I’ve ever had and the Seafood omelette is delicious. The gelato is ridiculously good!

Always a pleasure going back each year. The staff is always well equipped for every question or concern that I had during my stay.

Average, annoying experience at a premium price

Honestly, we found this resort to be an over-priced destination where way too many guests/members and their kids acted entitled like obnoxious, entitled brats. We would not return. The Good: Most of the staff were quite nice, courteous, and helpful. The lobby bar, although a very cheesy setup and feeling, was actually decent because of the great bartenders. Golfing the Ocean Course was a highlight, with near perfect conditions and friendly staff. The 3BR Suite was a nice, big space for our group of 4, kitchen was equipped with high-end appliances and had plenty of supplies. Stix Sushi was quite good, as was Atlantic House. Outstanding performance by the following staff members: Anton and John in the Lobby bar, Kara over at the Conservatory, Pedro in the Sushi restaurant, and the bearded server (Emigsman?) at the Atlantic. Unfortunately we had to summon medical assistance via the front desk. Their call to security resulted in lightning fast response by both security as well as the FD/EMS. Great job! The Bad: The reservations process affords no guarantee of bedding configuration, and that all 4 guests will have their own beds and not have to sleep on the floor. Same concern as the previous reviewer. Seriously, how in the world are we not able to match a room type to the guest’s requirements? Completely unacceptable, especially at this price point! We ended up getting the room type we needed, but only after an escalation to Management (who still could offer no guarantee) followed by considerable worry and angst. Ocean Front “Luxury” 3BR suite is not ocean FRONT, but ~300 yards away, with courtyard, pool, parking lot, clubhouse in between you and a true ocean front experience. Should be sold as Ocean View. Quite the lofty price. Squeaky uncomfortable twin bed, incredibly squeaky bathroom door that we had maintenance fix the next day after an unnecessary night of choppy sleep. Why isn’t housekeeping reporting such things proactively? The large TV was nice, but it didn’t work until day 3 of our stay. Technician said the remote was toast and the TV needed to be entirely re-programmed to a new remote. Poor. Why are we saddled with fixing your problems? Suite and building poorly constructed, Suite whistled all night with 25MPH winds. Combined with outside clunking (loose building part), this yielded little sleep on night #2. Our further investigation yielded that the weather stripping on the front door was either inadequate or completely missing! No wonder the whistle. Also, one of the shower heads in our “luxury” Suite was a joke, see pic. Why, why why?? Too far of a walk between the lobby and the tower we were staying in. Signage should be improved. Bubbling paint on concrete around walkways is an eye sore. No hot tub at the outside pool by the towers. Elevator operated erratically, had to report it not once, but twice. By the last day it seemed to be working, but it caused undue stress and worry. Three of the restaurants were incredibly noisy. Unsupervised and misbehaving kids left to run around screaming, yelling, jumping off stairs while intoxicated adults and parents ignored and even encouraged them. Absolutely no regard for others seated in the area trying to have a nice meal. Management was notified but unwilling to engage to fix it. Had to move tables, only to then be seated by a group of eight raucous adults clapping hands and singing show tunes. Absolutely ridiculous! Can’t make this up! Loggerheads Sports Bar was very cheap feeling and loud (surprise!), with unsupervised kids running around everywhere. Felt like a Chuck E Cheese. Pass. Stix Sushi was good, enough for us to go back a 2nd time (because Loggerheads was a hard pass), but on the 2nd visit we were treated to a kid playing drums on his plate with the metal side of the chopsticks! Mom and Dad intervened (yay!) after a minute or two, but... wait for it.. they just turned the chopsticks around so it was the wooden side pounding on the dishes! Yup, they gave them right back to the kid so he could continue banging away. What kind of parents and people do this in a public (let alone “resort”) restaurant?? Delfinos was entirely forgettable (staff was nice though) with their 1-inch thick filet (that was overcooked) and incredibly rude adults and their misbehaving kids. This is where Management did not have the spine to intervene. SMH. Cheesy music and DJ in the lobby, was too loud, couldn’t even talk to others at the lobby bar. Imagine if you were checking in? And the cherry on top was the ridiculous 3% credit card fee that follows you around everywhere! Yep, your cash is largely useless here, they’d rather scrape every nickel and dime out of you by forcing you to use a credit card (because who wants to use a debit card with these prices?) and ding you with the fee. Front desk females were nice, but a couple of the guys were a tad underwhelming. Conservatory golf – although supposedly the nicer course, award-winning, and equipped with nice staff.... we found this course to be extremely disappointing. Certainly has the bones and layout to be special, but the condition of the course was terrible! Crabgrass and weeds were everywhere, from tee box to greens. One of the greens was so infested with tufts of crabgrass that one couldn’t get a true roll, it was laughable (wish I took a pic). Not even close to being worth the price. See my pics. And when the round was finished, they had no facility where golfers could sit, grab a brew off the tap, review their scores, and chat about the day. Only a takeout window, expertly run by Kara, who we found to be the #1 performing staff member during our entire trip. Great that we met her and all, but bad that only members can access the “members lounge” with taps, TV’s, etc. At the prices we’re paying? Poor. Ocean Course golf - 1,000% better than the Conservatory. Staff was great, course about 99% perfect. Nice config of Adirondacks overlooking the 18th where players can sip, chat and enjoy the views. This is how it should be done!
