Reviews for Gran Melia Victoria

Classy hotel with excellent customer service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

This was our first stay at this hotel despite staying in and near to Palma over the past 25 years and passing the hotel regularly. By chance, we walked through to the marina earlier this year and we’re very impressed by the ambience and surroundings so we decided to book for my husband’s birthday. Room/decor: We had a room with a balcony (on the cathedral side) which gave us a side view of the marina and cathedral. This was really nice and I would recommend this room category. In November, there can be some cloud and rain so it’s nice to be able to sit on the balcony at times. The hotel is a mixture of traditional and modern luxury. The room was large and the facilities modern and high quality with everything we needed. The double bed was enormous and very comfortable. The room was cleaned to a high standard and the hotel seemed very clean throughout. Food and drink: We had opted for bed and breakfast and there were lots of delicious cooked and cold breakfast options to choose from. The views of the marina and the cathedral from the breakfast terrace or the indoor part of the restaurant are absolutely stunning - one of the hotel’s key selling points. The food for dinner was also excellent but it was a shame the restaurant wasn’t busier (possibly due to time of year.) Location: This hotel isn’t in the centre of Palma but it’s a short, flat walk, bus or taxi ride away. There isn’t much around the hotel but there is a supermarket just behind the hotel as well as a couple of bars/restaurants. There are also a couple of bars/cafes just in front of the hotel by the marina. Room for improvement: We found the service in the restaurant at breakfast and dinner very good but the bar service in the evening a bit mixed. One evening a female bartender mixed me a delicious cocktail but on another evening, a male bartender just handed me my drink without a napkin or mat, and I had to go and ask for some nuts. On another evening, we gave up having a drink as we couldn’t find anyone to serve us; some other guests also told us that they’d also had this problem before. The roads running behind and in front of the hotel can both be quite busy and noisy but we didn’t notice this in the room. We did notice it when sunbathing by the pool though (sun loungers and towels were still available in November although the pool/bar were closed.) One slight negative for me was the metal sunbeds which need repainting and also the stained cushions. We didn’t use the indoor pool and this looked small and ok but not of the same standard we have experienced in other 5* hotels. We also didn’t have any spa treatments but these seemed to be restricted to massages. I don’t know if the limited treatments were due to being out of season though. Overall impression: This hotel is a really good option and the main thing that makes it stand out is excellent customer service. We had a negative experience in the hotel one night, which was caused by other guests and wasn’t the hotel’s fault but it could’ve ruined our view of the hotel. Alicia in the guest experience team went above and beyond to make up for our experience, which we very much appreciated. Thank you very much for a lovely stay and we look forward to seeing you next year.

Beautiful hotel with exceptional staff!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

We have just returned from a 2 week stay at this beautiful hotel. Elegant styling, a lovely Red level room , spacious with great views & an extremely large, comfortable bed. All areas of the hotel immaculately clean. The Red Level lounge is perfect for afternoon tea & evening drinks & canapés. Definitely worth the extra cost. Food was excellent with a huge variety at breakfast ( we were B&B). The major selling point of this hotel is its staff. Polite, professional, friendly & so willing to ‘ go the extra mile.’ At the end of the holiday my husband was unfortunate to have an accident which resulted in him being taken to hospital. On his return ,we extended our departure by a day to allow him to recover. Without exception, the staff were exceptional. They made a very stressful situation bearable. Our gratitude to all of them but special thanks to Matteu, Sofia & Nelinka ( sorry for the spelling!) The manager should be very proud of his team, as should the company.

WONDERFUL BREAK, Highly Recommended

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Wonderful stay, from the moment we arrived we were greeted with smiles and courtesy from all the staff. We have never stayed there before, although we have been to Majorca and Palma many times. We were a little worried about some of the bad reviews (Why do we only read the bad ones ?) but we needn't had worried .The hotel is elegant and beautifully furnished and also spotlessly clean. We encountered a small problem during our stay but the hotel dealt with it quickly and professionally. I cannot praise them enough. We stayed on the red level and it was certainly worth it , breakfast and the other meals we had in the hotel were wonderful especially lunch around the pool ,it was very hot during our stay so it was great to get out of the sun and cool off with a cold drink and a lazy lunch. I cannot praise the staff enough from around the pool, to the chambermaids and also the front desk. I have stayed all around the world and this is now one of my go to hotels for a vacation . Highly Recommended, Only hope I can get booked in next time I visit Palma

Perfect for Palma

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

We stayed at the Grand Victoria for two nights - it is the perfect location for visiting Palma. We arrived really late due to a flight delay which resulted in the hotel giving us a discount on our first night room rate. We had Red Level 'status' which gave us access to the lounge - this was nice during the early evening for complimentary drinks before heading out. Breakfast was lovely, the room was spotless and well furnished and modern. Our view of the marina and across to the cathedral was outstanding. Staff super friendly and helpful, pool really big for a city hotel - not sure I would want to stay around the pool for days on end but for a few hours after sightseeing it was perfect. Some of the communal areas could be cleaner but overall this hotel is an excellent choice. Not many families and vast majority of the guests are in older age categories so probably not best for a wild time.

Comfortable Stay, Disappointing Service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

We stayed in a Cathedral view room (late August–early September) and sadly left a little disappointed. On the plus side, housekeeping was excellent, spotless rooms, very comfortable beds, and great attention to detail. Breakfast staff were great and the food very good, with live violin at Sunday breakfast a nice (if slightly loud) touch. The pool itself was lovely, and the porters/reception were helpful with taxis. Unfortunately, much else fell short of 5* standards. The spa was empty, lacking atmosphere, and even the steam room was switched off unless requested for H&S reasons. Reception staff were efficient but cold, smiles are easy and go a long way, loungers by the pool although comfrotable weren't the cleanest, and the shower design left water spraying everywhere at times. Sounds petty but the ironing situation was very frustrating, irons were “restricted” to 30 minutes at a time, took 20 mins to arrive and often swapped for broken steamers, to the point we hid one behind the curtains so housekeeping wouldn’t remove it. The spa treatments, already overpriced and seemingly outsourced, came with a resident discount which persuaded us to book. After a very messy booking mix-up we were promised an additional discount on top of the hotel’s voucher. This was never honoured, even after we followed the hotel’s request to email our concerns after we had to pay on checkout. A week of back-and-forth emails later, with no resolution or accountability, we gave up, not the level of service anyone should expect from a 5* hotel With €0000s spent, including an upgrade for a partial “Cathedral view” and an extortionate €150 late checkout (€25ph!) which you could only book on the day, the overall experience felt poor value. Sadly, we will stay elsewhere next time in Palma.
