Sofitel Legend Casco Viejo

We recently stayed at the Sofitel Casco Viejo for three nights in a Magnifique King Oceanview room. The hotel is in a prime location in the historic waterfront district and was a perfect choice. The main building once housed the century-old former Union Club and exudes historic charm and elegance. Our room was large, well appointed, modern and very clean. The entire staff provided exceptional service, from greeters to front desk, concierge, bell hops and housekeeping. Special shoutout and thank you to Antonio, who went above and beyond every morning during breakfast service at Caleta Restaurant. We also enjoyed a truly outstanding dinner at Caleta, which I will review separately on the restaurant’s page. The only downside for us personally, was the loud music emanating from the popular in-house Ammi rooftop bar. This affects basically all rooms situated around the hotel’s u-shaped plaza courtyard. However, our overall experience was so wonderful, we would definitely pick the hotel again for our next visit to Panama City.

Highly recommend, great hotel in the historic area, nice facilities and amenities with outstanding staff! The restaurants were good, but the staff of the property were professional and friendly!

The hotel has a wonderful decoration reflecting the country's rich heritage, the lobby is magnificent and you really feel the local authenticity the moment you walk in. The rooms (and especially the bathrooms) are perfectly equipped. A special thanks to Katerine at the spa for her warm welcome.

Fantastic hotel – without a doubt the best hotel in Panama. Other hotels simply cannot compare. Although Travel & Leisure ranked it 66th among the world’s best hotels in 2025, in my opinion it deserves a much higher position. The work of the management and staff is truly outstanding. They are exceptionally attentive, professional, and pay close attention to every small detail. The entire operation of the hotel runs with clockwork precision. The hotel is located in the heart of the Casco Viejo district, offering an excellent location. It was built after the opening of the Panama Canal in 2017 and underwent a complete renovation two years ago. As a result, it is now a true ultra-luxury hotel with an elegant heritage and historical atmosphere. The food is excellent. While the à la carte breakfast selection is slightly limited, the portions are generous and the flavors are outstanding, making it a very satisfying dining experience. Overall, there is almost nothing negative to mention. I highly recommend this hotel – do not miss it!
