At only 20 minutes from touch-down to sand, El Mangroove is a contemporary boutique hotel with a unique personality. It contains 85 bohemian-chic suites surrounded by forest, beach and mangrove that are only steps away from the ocean. Large rooms, with seamless transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces, create a comfortable and relaxing haven. The suites are situated within 3 two-story buildings, which are set in front of glass-like water mirrors and nestled amongst the mangrove. The two on-site restaurants Matiss and Makoko offer a combination of laid-back modern cuisine and sensorial gastronomy. Service is personalized and attentive; guests call it outstanding. The resort captures the simplistic yet exotic character of Costa Rica, with natural wood furnishings, regional artwork and contemporary stone finishes. The beautiful spa, fitness center and long, cabana-flanked swimming pool make up the perfect mix of indulgence and barefoot luxury.

Just got back from a 10 day stay in a 3 bed villa at El Mangroove. It's an easy 20 min drive from the airport and a pleasant resort. The villas are simply stunning and in our opinion they are not well represented on the website. Villas are huge, and have private grounds with a small pool. They are great to share as most of the rooms have independent access. They are really beautifully appointed and fully equipped with quality sturdy items. Howler monkeys always sat in the trees right outside our villa. The staff are all so nice and the service is outstanding. We also loved the steam room/spa at the resort. Diane from the spa is simply an angel! Sadly, we did not love the food and found it bland at best and hit or miss as to whether what was on the plate came anywhere close to the item described on the menu. Front of the house service is great but the kitchen let them down over and over again. We were also disappointed to find there is only one restaurant open at his time of year. I wish this had been noted at the time of booking. We did not have a car so eating elsewhere was not an option as nowhere is accessible off site. Also be aware the resort is small and very quiet. All that said we would definitely love to stay here again but we will definitely get a car and time our next visit for when all the facilities are open. one more note-We scheduled our excursions before we travelled. The same name was mentioned to us over and over again here in MN. We were so happy that we scheduled our airport transfers and two full day tours with Frank the Frank. He and his team are just amazing and you can read my review for them here on TripAdvisor. I highly recommend them. Great people, great excursions, easy to communicate with and the guides are local and passionately love their country.

We loved this beautiful hotel. For the quality, the price point was very good. We've stayed at many more expensive hotels and The El Mangroove did not disappoint. The rooms were small suites with a hammock in the room. The tropical landscaping was exquisite. One of the things we loved best was the way the hotel property was built to save the tropical foliage and large trees. The yoga classes were FREE and held in a gorgeous outdoor area. The adult-only lap pool was appreciated. We ate several times in the two restaurants and the quality of the food and the service was very good. We would have preferred a more varied menu at the evening restaurant. The beach was muddy and a little disappointing but it is not part of the hotel property. Overall, we were pleased with a very well-maintained and high-end hotel experience.

El Mangroove is a great destination for someone who loves an abundance of earthy scenery inside and outside of the property. Close proximity to various activities on the water and within national parks is ideal. Also, El Mangrove is within 20 minutes from Liberia airport, while driving you will spot many picturesque sights and will start experiencing the amazing wildlife of Costa Rica immediately! El Mangroove has a lot to offer in terms of serenity within the room, hammock to hang on while waiting for some of your family members to take a shower, comfortable beds, crisp and clean bedding , walk-in closet to put all of your clothes, picture like views from the windows. Rooms get cleaned every day and there is an evening routine, when you come back from the night excursions and your bed is ready to soak in with additional cookies next to it, which was my daughter’s favourite part. Also, El Mangroove has many different types of dining options available, the food is fresh and authentic to Costa Rica. You definitely don’t want to miss out on that one. Coffee is local and you just can’t get enough of the delicious things that are being offered! Hotel ‘s staff members are very welcoming and helpful, with big smiles and a genuine desire to always assist and make sure guests feel like home! William is always there to make every wish to come true! It is very handy when it comes to travelling with family and children! There are 2 pool areas, for adults only and the pool for families, which makes it nice when you want to sneak out to a more chill place for couple of minutes, while grandparents are watching the grandchildren. One important aspect to any sort of accommodations, whether it is a recommendation to local attractions, setting up a birthday event, special celebration, etc, Pablo at the concierge desk is the one who will make it unforgettable! He will go out of his way to make sure you have everything you need to make every day special and full of interesting activities whether you do it through hotel or through local companies . Pablo will customise any of your desires and will make sure it’s exactly what you want to experience. We are definitely coming back! There is so much Costa Rica has to offer and specifically the Pacific region , green, lush, and very homy, you just want the time to stop! El Mangroove makes it worry free and easy to focus on the fun part of the travel experience! Very Grateful 🙏

“Pura Vida!” My wife, son, and I just wrapped up an amazing trip at the El Mangroove Papagayo Hotel in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. From start to finish, the team there made everything smooth, fun, and memorable. Hotel Team Jose was a total pro, pulling strings and organizing all kinds of services for us. Marvin ran a rum tasting that was both fun and legit educational. At the restaurants and pool, Brian, Javier, and Kervin kept us dialed in, and the food everywhere was excellent. Fresh, creative, and consistently impressive, whether it was breakfast, dinner, or poolside bites. And Esteban deserves a special shout-out, not only did he take great care of us, but his coffee tasting and deep dive into beans, roasting, and flavor profiles was world-class. Javier, the Restaurant Manager, always checked in on us with a bright, happy, and super accommodating style, making sure we were enjoying the food and experience every day. Camila and Natalia at the front desk handled our check-in and kept things moving with reservations and services across the property. Their “yes, we can” attitude made everything effortless. Carlos and Diego at the front door/bell services were everywhere we needed them to be, handling luggage, airport transfers, sharing property knowledge, even keeping us dry in surprise rain showers, all while bringing positive, jovial energy to every interaction. Adventures & Excursions David from Tico Tours gave us one of the most epic side-by-side tours I’ve ever been on. Jungle trails, hidden beaches, cliffside views… and all while dropping knowledge about local nature, geology, history, and community. Top-notch guide. Then there’s Esteban and David from Azul Adventures, they had us covered across three unreal excursions: First, jet skis that were in pristine condition (fast + fun), with sightings of turtles, dolphins, monkeys, caves, and beaches you can only dream about. Second, a snorkeling run with crazy amounts of sea life, fish everywhere, turtles cruising, secluded beaches to explore. Tons of fun. Third, a fishing trip where we saw whales, dolphins, and more turtles, and actually landed a rainbow runner. They sliced it up sashimi-style with all the fixings, and the hotel turned the rest into an incredible dinner that night. Bottom line: stellar hospitality, fantastic food, and wild adventures in one of the most beautiful places I’ve been. Huge thanks to everyone who made it special for us. We’ll be back. Pura Vida!

Love my stay at El Mangroove Guanacaste. The staff is great and attention to detail was superb. Natalia (front desk), Esteban and all the staff members were so nice and friendly. Appreciate all the details. The property is beautiful just in front of the beach and if you want to chill and relax this is the place!
