At only 20 minutes from touch-down to sand, El Mangroove is a contemporary boutique hotel with a unique personality. It contains 85 bohemian-chic suites surrounded by forest, beach and mangrove that are only steps away from the ocean. Large rooms, with seamless transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces, create a comfortable and relaxing haven. The suites are situated within 3 two-story buildings, which are set in front of glass-like water mirrors and nestled amongst the mangrove. The two on-site restaurants Matiss and Makoko offer a combination of laid-back modern cuisine and sensorial gastronomy. Service is personalized and attentive; guests call it outstanding. The resort captures the simplistic yet exotic character of Costa Rica, with natural wood furnishings, regional artwork and contemporary stone finishes. The beautiful spa, fitness center and long, cabana-flanked swimming pool make up the perfect mix of indulgence and barefoot luxury.

The hotel stands out for its beautiful natural surroundings and direct access to a calm, scenic beach. The staff was consistently attentive and friendly, always making sure we were comfortable throughout our stay. The pools are impressive, especially those with views of the gulf. Spending time there in the afternoon and watching the sunset was one of the highlights of our trip. The overall design blends seamlessly with nature while still offering a high level of comfort and elegance. The dining options were excellent, and Makoko was a favorite, great breakfasts and a relaxed, pleasant atmosphere in the evening. We also booked several activities with Gabriel from nomadtourscr , including airport transportation, snorkeling tours, and a rainforest visit. Since we arranged everything with them, we received a discount, which we really appreciated. All services were well organized, with punctual pickups, friendly and professional staff, and clean, comfortable vehicles. The tours felt very personal, allowing us to enjoy each experience at a relaxed pace without feeling rushed. The rainforest tour and snorkeling were especially memorable. This hotel is an excellent choice for travelers looking for tranquility, great service, and well-organized activities. We would gladly recommend it to anyone seeking a peaceful and high-quality stay.

Henry and Gerant were absolutely fabulous, exceptional employees. They treated us like family the entire time and were so attentive to our needs. We so appreciate the customer service, and it made our experience extra special! They are gems and we can tell they work hard. We really enjoyed our time at the Mangroove Hotel. Would highly recommend staying here!

It’s a nice and charming hotel in mangrove , the beach is perfect and calm . Service is great ! Coffee tasking and tasting are a must . I asked for Nicaragua tour that they did not offer but they connected us with another agency and arranged a tour within 12 hours . The rooms are nice and have a very unique design but most are outdated . Breakfast is so so , a lot of processed foods and no veggies . Did not try the one from à la carte menu . À la carte lunch is great and fresh . Dinner in both restaurants is affordable and quite descent . Way cheaper than at Ritz and 4 Seasons and 100% better than any restaurant at Planet Hollywood where we stayed before .

As much as I would like to keep this resort to myself, it would be selfish to do so. Everyone needs to experience El Mangroove! The hotel gave us a complimentary upgrade to a Habitat suite accompanied by a bottle of prosecco and chocolate covered strawberries. Thank you!! The room also had the absolute coldest AC on the island, which was Greatly appreciated by these hot sleepers. We were also given a choice of free breakfast or 1,000 points. We chose the breakfast and it didn’t disappoint, skip the welcome points! Bottles of sunscreen, bug spray and aloe are placed strategically around all the pools. No need to bring your own, unless you want to. Three restaurants with varying menus and staff that are truly one of a kind—Gerant, Mario and Henry to name a few. And the woman in Malu who does the coffee tasting broke into a big smile when she saw us at dinner. Gerant gets a special shot out—he went out of his way to ensure we would have a cabana after dark to watch the College Football Playoff game since the beach bars close in the evening (more on this below). Experiences: The coffee tasting was a bit of a letdown as you only taste three and one is the coffee served at breakfast. I was expecting to taste several coffee beans from CR, not just that supplied by the resort. We did see how locals make their coffee with a chorreador which was very interesting. Other trips we did outside the property with outside vendors. Security is present but not on a threatening way. You are encouraged to use the in room safe and we felt safe on property at all times. Wildlife—Iguanas everywhere along with raccoons and a nightly visit by a baby skunk at Matisse. Howler monkeys are way up in the trees usually sleeping, so look carefully above the parking lots. Attended a manager happy hour and we met William..explained a few minor tweaks that could help the hotel (signage describing the outdoor art-Bigfoot, especially) as well as some minor improvements to the fitness center (longer battle ropes and signage about wiping down machines after use). Also, be aware that your card will be charged upon arrival instead of upon departure. Short stays it seems not to really matter, but definitely never experienced at any other Bonvoy property. Hopefully they can be persuaded to only place a hold and then charge when you depart. You can also scan the QR code on your room key folder. Here you can read about free yoga (MWF), free coffee tasting, free bike usage and more). Please add info about the tree planting. William was very instrumental in getting the Matisse bar to remain open during the second College Football Playoff game ( keeping the bar open until 10 pm—it usually shuts down at 7pm). A small thing that allowed many US fans to sit outside for the game instead of holed up in their room. Thank you William!! We also noticed that it was open for the wildcard game on Saturday evening. Overall an amazing week- will definitely return soon!
