Reviews for Hilton Hotel Tahiti

Cocktail by the pool

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 12 hours ago

The San restaurant Is great and We are already planning to come back. As for the Vaipuna bar, drinks are not served over a napkin and I wish they were. I asked the waitress some napkins : she said yes but never came back. I had to ask another waitress to bring me some. For a cocktail that costs 2200 xpf the least we could have is a napkin. The napkin absorbs the humidity of the glass especially if the drink leaks a little bit. I think the 1st waitress who never came back has never experienced cocktails at a bar or over the pool otherwise she would have known better. And we were in a Hilton so I expected a little bit of quality service.

Did not meet expectations

We arrived off a flight in the middle of the night having prebooked a private taxi transfer via the hotel from the airport, some ten minutes away. We later discovered that the transfer charge from the hotel was about four times the normal rate so we felt completely overcharged and taken advantage of. Not a good start considering we were Honors members and had booked a room for an additional day that we did not actually get much use from as we set foot in the room at approximately 3.30am on what was effectively 'day two'. The welcome was however warm and friendly but surprisingly they insisted upon an excessively large prepayment authorisation on our credit card (over NZ$800) despite us having prepaid for three nights' accommodation. There was no offer of assistance with luggage or being shown to the room. The breakfasts were adequate with a reasonable selection although service was poor with slow and forgetful wait staff. A similar experience was found in both the Italian and main restaurant for evening meals but food in both instances was average and very expensive. Likewise, mineral water and wine prices were exorbitant. Both venues lacked any ambience with a general lack of staff attention or interaction with the guest. Our room was modern, spacious and clean, and had great views from the balcony although the balcony light was faulty. This hotel was convenient to the airport and cruise terminal but lacks in any great sophistication or ambience with staff largely disinterested in providing anything like a slick, friendly or helpful service. We experienced a number of issues in obtaining practical assistance and helpful advice, or prompt efficient service. Our room account could not even be printed upon departure, so we had to chase an email copy a few days later. This all added to characterising the overall feeling that this is more of a conveniently located transient offering of a 3-to-4-star rating at best, and an expensive one at that. It would definitely not be suitable for anything other than a couple of nights stay prior to a cruise or island hopping but do think carefully about what is on offer here and value for money in terms of price and that food and beverage offering.

Overall nice but not exceptional

We stayed at the Hilton Tahiti for one night after leaving Bora Bora, and the experience felt very underwhelming by comparison. I would rate it 3.5 stars overall, rounded up to 4. This is not a five-star hotel experience, but it is a reasonable four-star property. We paid approximately $1,400 for two rooms for one night, and it did not feel like a $700-per-room experience. The pool area was nice, although drinks were around $25 each. There is also no actual beach—only a rocky shoreline—which was disappointing. Our rooms were comfortable and generally nice, with good ocean views, but nothing spectacular. The balconies felt dated and could use renovation. We were also quoted a $236 fee per room for a late checkout past 11:00 a.m. I understand that late checkout is not always complimentary, although I am admittedly spoiled by the complimentary 4:00 p.m. checkout I often receive at Marriott properties. Dinner at the hotel restaurant the night before also had terrible service, which I covered in a separate review. Overall, the Hilton Tahiti was fine for a short stopover, but it felt significantly overpriced for what you receive.
