Three garden terraces turn the Hotel du Collectionneur into an oasis just north of the Champs-Elysees. The hotel's glamorous Art Deco style is inspired by transatlantic cruise liners of the 1930s – green marble, antiques and elaborate period prints adorn the hallways, and top floor rooms have small balconies from which to behold the city below. Sip on absinthe in an alcove at the glitzy Purple Bar, watching life go by on Rue de Courcelles.

I booked for 2 nights but extended to 3 nights. 2 weeks before I arrived. Because of an error at reception, I had to move rooms in the middle of my stay and check out in the morning, to recheck in that evening. I got moved to a room with 1 bed, when previously I had 2 beds. I was also downgraded in terms of standard. I said there was a mistake, so they moved me again. I had to move myself as the hotel was busy. The new room also had 1 bed, but they said they could split it, and would send the room service to remake it. This whole process had taken so long by then, that I accepted the lower quality room as I had to go to dinner. It is not what you expect from a 5 star hotel

The hotel is very nice but we paid extra for a balcony room and we couldn't use it. It looked out over a building site and didn't look like it had been cleaned for weeks. There was bird poo all over the floor and on one of the chairs. I don't drink alcohol and it would have been nice if they had a choice of non- alcoholic drinks such as gin or wine in the bar.
