While in Deer Valley, we split our time between two hotels, both of which were recommended to us: The Goldener Hirsch and the Montage. We will review and compare both with the goal of providing as much information as possible so that travelers can make an informed decision based on their priorities and preferences. For those who don’t want to read the entire review, the sum of it is this - If you want a gorgeous room, you plan to cook most of your meals, and you don’t care about amenities, the Goldener is a great option. If you are looking for a more self-contained hotel that offers an amazing spa, great food, easy transport options, don’t plan to cook and are ok with ho-hum rooms, the Montage is your spot. For the Goldener, here are our detailed thoughts on what we believe most travelers consider: ROOMS - We were told to book a room in the “new residence side, not the old side,” which we did. We give the room a 5 out of 5. The furnishings and decor are gorgeous. The room was the cleanest hotel room we’ve ever stayed in. The room is self-contained in the sense that it is more like a furnished apartment with some extra amenities. Everything you need is there (they even have a real coffee maker, which I loved - not one of the pod machines in most hotels that don’t really make a full cup of coffee) and the shampoo, conditioner, soap, etc. smell wonderful. AMENITIES - The pool was not open for use when we were there in June, something we wished had been disclosed when we made the reservation or at least within the cancel period. The “spa” facilities/amenities aren’t much to speak of. There’s a co-ed dry sauna. There’s also a small outdoor pool with a hot tub connected to it. The sauna, pool and hot tub all seemed undersized to the size of the hotel had the hotel been at full capacity. It felt like the minimum was done to check a box and that it wasn’t consistent with a true four-star hotel. We ranked the amenities at a 3. There is a spa facility at the hotel next door that was serviceable (but it doesn’t hold a candle to the Montage and wasn’t accessible unless you booked a treatment there, which we did.) RESTAURANTS - This seems harsh, but we rate this a zero. The food offered at the hotel and in walking distance wasn’t edible. I mean REALLY wasn’t edible. We ordered a meal at the hotel and at a restaurant nearby (Cena). Neither of us finished even half of the meal. The menus reflected what seemed to be an effort to have unique offerings, but came off as overcomplicated, perplexing and not at all interesting. We struggled to select items from the menu and then really couldn’t eat them because the respective kitchens didn’t carry it off. That said, if you book one of the rooms with a kitchen - they are fully equipped. If you plan to cook and not really eat out and don’t mind going to town center when you do, Goldener is a great option. HOUSEKEEPING: Hands down a 5. (Read above - Cleanest rooms we’ve ever stayed in.) CUSTOMER SERVICE: Really nice, warm staff. Customer service gets a 5. Overall, we rank the hotel a 3.5. If you want to stay in an incredible room while in Deer Valley, you plan to cook your meals or go to town center for meals, and you don’t care so much about amenities, the Goldener is a great option. If you want a great restaurant and spa facility on site, and you don’t care about constant disruption while in your room (even when the privacy light is on), try the Montage, which we give a 4 overall (5 if you don’t include our ranking for housekeeping).

We went there during spring break ski trip for my birthday. Service was very sincere and attentive and food excellent as usual. We usually went there once whenever we visited Deer Valley & Park City for ski trip during Christmas season or spring break. One of the Deer Valley Staples. Always trustworthy quality!!

My client hosted a boutique business summit. The service and food was exceptional. The team was kind and accomodating when last minute requests were made. Overall, the experience at Goldener Hirsch lived up to it's well deserved reputation.

The staff at Goldener Hirsch were exceptional! This property is conveniently located, and the hotel offers a shuttle to and from main street. Our room was spacious and dreamy, and the roof top pool was incredible! We have stayed at many Auberge's, and this property is by far our favorite!

Charming and chic mountain side property that is ski in/out and conveniently located. Complimentary shuttle service to and from Main Street is available. Housekeeping, dining and Valet staff/services are exceptional! While the hotel is not technically ski in/out it truly is just steps to the lifts.
