Goldener Hirsch, Auberge Resorts Collection

I booked this stay six months in advance to lock in what I thought was a great rate. Like I always do, I checked the hotel’s website the day of check in to see if there were any upgrades available. Instead, I found my exact same room listed online for 35% less than what I paid. The difference was not small. It was $450 a night. Not $450 for the whole stay, but $450 every single night. That meant I paid over $2,250 more than what anyone booking that same day would have paid. When I brought this to the front desk, they told me it was “company policy” and they could not honor the lower rate, even though it was clearly being advertised on their own website. I own a business too, and I know policies can be overridden when something is clearly wrong. In this case, leadership chose not to step in. The front desk staff did what they could. They were polite and tried to help. They offered upgrades, but we did not need a bigger room. Eventually they offered a $250 resort credit, which doesn’t even come close to covering the difference. What really bothered me is that the GM, Jamie Miller, never came out to speak with us. He stayed behind her staff and let them take the heat for a decision that clearly came from the top. He emailed me requesting a survey and I replied requesting a meeting and never heard back from him. This felt like short term greed and zero loyalty to a guest who booked early and trusted the hotel. If you wait until the last minute, you might get a great deal. If you book early thinking you are being smart, just know this hotel will not stand behind you when their own prices drop. It's not too late to honor the rate.

I/we have stayed in many hotels in some of the world's most beautiful locations -- hotels which were variously luxurious, picturesque, boutique, and economical -- including the original Goldener Hirsch Inn in Salzburg. Our stay at the Deer Valley Goldener Hirsch was the most pleasant and enjoyable of all our stays. Deer Valley is the perfect ski destination and the Goldener Hirsch is the perfect accommodation. The hotel rooms, while pricey, are well worth it and the hotel amenities are superb, especially for skiers: the in-hotel Ski Butler/snow valet service is the most comfortable we've ever experienced. The rooftop hot-tub/pool is striking and rejuvenating. The hotel's restaurant, The Hirsch, is truly excellent (we had Rabbit Goulash and Rack of Lamb with assorted wines and beers). The hotel is boutique, quaint-with-artifacts-from-the-original-Salzburg-Austria-namesake, yet fully modern -- with gracious staff and ultimately friendly vibes.

I needed a quick 3 day trip to start my New Year off right after a rough 2025 . I absolutely loved The Goldner Hirsch junior suite I stayed in and had the best time in the winter wonderland. It snowed and the resort was spectacular. Took a snow mobile ride with lofty peaks , took a horse sleigh ride to dinner at The Snowed Inn, went inner tubing at Woodward Park and had the most amazing fondue at The Hirsch restaurant. Definitely coming back .

Beautiful hotel and excellent service…fantastic experience all around! We really enjoyed everything about our stay.
