The staff was so extremely friendly and helpful in the best way, and the property is breathtaking. We were treated to a room upgrade, and also loved the sushi at Yama.

While in Deer Valley, we stayed at both the Goldener Hirsch and the Montage. We separately wrote a detailed review of Goldener Hirsch. Here is our review of the Montage, which we rate overall as a 4. If you’d rather skip the details below, here is a summary of the review. The Montage is a spectacular hotel with outstanding facilities. While the rooms are only average and functional, the hotel at large has everything you might need or want. Outside of their housekeeping staff, which is violative of your privacy, the customer service is excellent, and the food was some of the best in Deer Valley. With the caveat below about housekeeping, we would highly recommend this hotel to our most discerning of friends. Now, in more detail: Rooms - We rank the guest rooms as a 4 out of 5. They are functional but not luxuriously appointed or decorated like the Goldener Hirsch. The hotel furniture at Montage looks like…well, generic hotel furniture…while the Goldener Hirsch looks like it belongs in a feature in Architectural Digest. That said, with all the Montage has to offer in the hotel, you aren’t going to want to hang around in your room. Spa/Pool Facilities - 5+ out of 5. The facilities at the Montage are outstanding. The spa is one of the nicest I’ve been in, and my spouse said it’s the nicest he’s EVER been in. The treatments were incredible (facial and massages), and the facility is luxurious. Each locker room has a full dry sauna, steam room and hot tub, and each is large enough to accommodate a tour bus of people. Proceeding outside of the locker rooms, there is a co-ed indoor pool and hot tub with tables and lounge chairs, which is adjacent to a sufficiently sized gym. There is also an outdoor pool and hot tub. The size of the facilities are appropriate to the size of the hotel. If you are a hotel guest, even without a spa treatment, you can get a day pass to the spa facilities, which every guest should take advantage of. It’s the ultimate in luxury. Hotel at Large: 5 out of 5. There are a number of restaurants, bars and areas to sit inside and out. The food was excellent, the drinks poured strong and the service at the restaurants was friendly and perfectly timed. There are lots of hiking trails around, and there is a shuttle on the hour to Park City. The drivers will give you all the tips you need to find good restaurants and shopping while there. Customer Service: Excellent. 5 out of 5. Everyone (excluding housekeeping) wanted to help and wanted us to enjoy the stay. Housekeeping: I know it’s harsh but I’ll explain - 0 out of 5. If you could rank housekeeping around privacy, there would be those that respect it, those that intrude on it, and those that blatantly violate it. The Montage’s housekeeping staff falls in the latter category. Our stay involved only two full days of stay that would involve housekeeping. On both days, they violated our privacy. The first day, I was working on my computer on the sofa around the corner from the door. The privacy light had been activated. I heard the door lock beep (no one knocked), the door open and then silence. I assumed it was my spouse and didn’t look up, and called out “hey, what brought you back?” (he was supposed to be meeting someone). No response, the door opened and closed again. I texted my spouse - nope. It wasn’t him. He was in a meeting. Again - no one knocked before entering, they ignored the privacy light and just entered the room. That was day one. Day two - I’d gone out to run a quick errand and had to be back for a Zoom. I knew the time would be tight, and I did not want to run into housekeeping so I left the privacy light on when I left. I come back and had 6 minutes to log on to the Zoom. Housekeeping ignored the privacy light and they were in the room cleaning. I ask them to please leave and explain that I have a work call I have to hop on that I need privacy for. They say “two minutes” but continue to clean as though they are not on the clock. Four minutes later, I explain they really need to leave so that I can hop on the Zoom. One particularly surly housekeeper argues with me and wants to finish. I explain I had the privacy light on for a reason, and they ignored it, and that they aren’t going to be able to finish. She lies and claims the privacy light wasn’t on and while doing that, our eyes both meet at the tag housekeeping leaves on the door when they come by to clean and your light is on to explain why the room isn’t clean. They’d left the tag because the privacy light was in fact on…and then they decided to ignore it and come in spite of it. They finally leave, I get on my work call, and then housekeeping (knowing I have a work call) CALLS ME on the hotel phone five or so minutes after they leave during the call to ask if they can come pick up my tray. It was incredible. I mean….housekeeping does. not. care. about the quality of your stay or respect the privacy you request. If you decide to stay in this hotel that otherwise excels in every other category, double lock your door. Double lock it when you are showering. Double lock it when you are sleeping. Double lock it when you are changing. Double lock it if you are having some quiet time with your spouse, or a work zoom, or if you just want to be undisturbed. Because the privacy light, alone, does not guarantee you privacy, and the staff may very well enter your room without even knocking…

I’m staying at the Montage while writing this review. Large hotel, feels a bit too corporate for my taste, but otherwise it’s fine, with a nice view of the valley from the lawn. The decor has hints of old Western lodges with wooden ceilings and a large stone fireplace in the lounge. There’s a cosy library room where it was nice to relax. My room was comfortable with a nice seating area featuring a fireplace and a walk-in closet. I had lunch at the main restaurant overlooking the ski lift - the food was fine but not 5-star quality. Staff are helpful and efficient. Overall, a nice stay.

A true 5 star facility, from their amenities to their incredible staff, they truly think ahead for you. Loved every moment of my stay! The food onsite was also top notch and always prepared perfectly the first time, no other resort in the area can compare!
