The hotel is very dated; staffing is low and rooms desperately need updating. Construction is going on for one wing of hotel by the old pool; the food options here are very average and a high price point.

Unfortunately, this was not the best experience, but there were highlights - the BEDDING was AMAZING!! The front desk clerks - VERY PROFESSIONAL and KIND!!! 1) Upon check-in, we tried to dine at the Terrace restaurant, but were told NO to dining poolside?! (Yes, there was construction on the grounds, but this did not affect the patio. The inside was too loud due to a large group of young women conversing exuberantly.) We ended up eating poolside in the lounge - so why not at the table? No one wants to hear NO! And there really was no reason for it. 2) The room service menu in our room was soiled and had writing in it from a previous guest - I gave it to the front desk - he said, "oh?" 3) Room 420 should not be rented - terrible first impression, so they moved us to 614 - much better view of the gardens and mountains. 4) What pool bar closes at 5pm? There were two dozen guests looking for beverages when we sat down (after a long day at the Huntington Gardens). Tarek, F&B Mgr, was the best - he took care of each guest individually! Diego was also spot on, continuing to help all guests. 5) Still at the pool - the lounges are disgusting with stains on the cushions - everywhere! 6) Pool designation for adults-only is no longer enforced. I'm not opposed to kids, but infants in diapers, whereupon diapers were changed on the lounge is not what I expect at a luxury hotel. There was a naked child running, which her parents thought was adorable. And, another child lifted her leg and peed!? Really! Another group of young people arrived in jeans, street shoes and T-shirts - not your typical attire for a luxury hotel / spa. Without showering, they stripped down to suits and jumped in the pool. No thanks - we never went in the water! 7) POSITIVE - Japanese Garden is spectacular! 8) POSITIVE - TAP ROOM staff were amazing! 9) Valet parking is mandatory at $47 (there should be self- park at a lesser fee during the week - there is plenty of room on the upper level and around the spa building. 10) $49 Luxury fee???????????? FOR WHAT????? They waived it for us after all stated above, but it shouldn't have to be this way. Luxury is a level of expectation - that there are o stains, no spider webs, no pee in the pool, bars open, smiling faces, attentive service and a little bit of opulence!

Disappointed This Time – Loud Doors and Dirty Pillows Ruined Our Stay We’ve always loved The Langham and even spent our wedding night here in one of their suites, which was a truly memorable experience. That’s why this recent stay was such a letdown. While the staff were warm and professional as always, the room itself was a major disappointment. The pillows were dirty, which made it hard to relax or feel comfortable. More disruptive, though, was the way the room entrance doors are designed—not just ours, but all the surrounding rooms. They slam shut with such force that it actually shook our room, and the noise carried through the hallway throughout the night and early morning. It was almost impossible to sleep, and we left the hotel feeling tired and frustrated. We’ve attended many events at The Langham and always appreciated its charm, but this room experience didn’t reflect the standard we’re used to. I truly hope management addresses these issues—especially the door design—so that future stays can live up to the reputation this hotel has built.

My family and I have stayed at this hotel multiple times while visiting Los Angeles, but we do not plan to come back. On our most recent stay (July 23–26, 2025), we were moved twice. The first move was because loud drilling started early in the morning above our initial room, despite our repeated requests at check-in for a quiet room. Our second room (152) had a persistent smoke odor throughout the first night, and it seemed to get worse the next evening. It irritated our noses and throats, and my son—who has anxiety—was distressed. He complained of chest discomfort and, after reading about the effects of smoke exposure online, kept talking to us about his worries that may get lung cancer from this exposure and seeking reassurance. We asked for a manager to come to the room. A shift manager eventually visited, said he could smell the issue, thanked us for flagging it, and said he would look into taking the room out of service. Another staff member suggested the smoke odor might be pulled in from the on-site steakhouse. Separately, I later saw a post on a public travel forum from several years ago describing a similar smoke odor in Room 152. Seeing that older review made me worry that this might be a recurring issue and added to our frustration. At checkout, I understood from the front-desk agent that management had approved a full refund and that I should receive it via Expedia (the agency used to book our stay). When I later contacted Expedia after not seeing a refund, an Expedia representative on 8/1/25 told me the hotel had approved a partial refund of $405. Overall, this visit left us upset and disappointed, and in my opinion the handling of our concerns fell far short of what I expect from a high-end hotel.
