Disappointing Service at Pendry

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

The property itself is beautiful, the land & design were standouts but the overall level of service was extremely disappointing for a hotel at this price point. The biggest issue was a clear lack of training and consistency across the staff. Ladd’s Tavern: This seemed particularly poorly managed, with slow and inconsistent service throughout our stay. * Day 1: We sat outside and ordered the 3-egg breakfast. It took 30+ minutes to arrive and was missing items, including toast and butter. Tajine, our server, was attentive, but the overall service was still very slow. * Day 2: We sat inside and our server was essentially nowhere to be found. Again, we ordered the 3-egg breakfast and waited 30–40 minutes. When it finally arrived, the eggs were extremely runny and undercooked. We asked for a coffee refill three separate times before getting one. Eventually, a manager came over, apologized, and comped the meal, which we appreciated, but the experience was incredibly disappointing given the price point. Staff appeared busy, but there was very little attentiveness anywhere in the restaurant. Multiple tables were experiencing slow service, and we even saw people sitting at the bar eventually get up and leave because no one was attending to them. * Day 3: We sat outside and Mo was our server. The difference was night and day—breakfast arrived within 10 minutes and everything was perfect. This showed that the issue isn’t the restaurant itself, but rather consistency, staffing, and training. Ninety Acres: This was the complete opposite experience and one of the highlights of our stay. We ate there Friday night and the service was excellent—very attentive without being overbearing. The food was hot and the overall quality was really high. Our entrees, the duck breast and trout, were slightly overcooked, but the quality of the ingredients really stood out. For a farm-to-table restaurant, I loved how close we were to the farm and how fresh everything tasted. I really enjoyed both the food and the level of attention we received. Would highly recommend Ninety Acres. Housekeeping: The first day was excellent, including a welcome turndown service. Unfortunately, the second day there was absolutely no service to our room. We left around 11:30 a.m. and specifically let the hotel know via text that we would be gone so housekeeping could service the room, and this was acknowledged. We returned at 4:30 p.m. to find that nothing had been done. We didn’t have time to leave again and wait for housekeeping, and there was still no turndown service by the time we returned around 8 p.m. Gym: The gym was also disappointing. I used it all three days and it appeared that no one had cleaned or organized it during our stay. The mats and equipment were in exactly the same positions each day, and the floors needed attention. Pool: The pool associates were easily the most attentive and best-trained staff we encountered at the Pendry. They deserve significant praise—the service there was exactly what we expected from a hotel at this level. Overall, the Pendry has a beautiful property and clearly has some excellent staff, but the service was far too inconsistent. At this price point, I expect a much higher level of attention to detail and basic service standards. The contrast between our third breakfast and the first two days really highlighted that the hotel is capable of delivering great service—it just needs to be much more consistent.

A place for peace and relaxation

My wife and I had the most relaxing and pampered celebration of her birthday. A tremendous place to unplug, relax, and enjoy the bucolic setting and exceptional service.

Inconsistent experience - some good, some not so good.

My stay at the Pendry last week was disappointing. Could not get staff to locate items left in the room during one of my past stays despite getting confirmation that this item had been located and would be held in the security office. The biggest issue I see is the lack of communication and initiative from staff members. No one seems to be willing to take ownership for resolving a guest request/issue.

Great Location and Premises, Disappointing Hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This was our first time staying at one of the Pendry chain hotels and unfortunately this will be the last time we do. We went for our anniversary somewhere that is close to Bergen county and chose the location because of the premises and the vast acreage of land, hiking trails, and beautiful scenery as well, along with the availability of a spa at one of the fine hotels within the Amex platinum program. The location was up to expectation but the hotel was not. It is just a normal 5 star hotel that charges luxury hotel rates, but has still a long way to go to offer that type of luxury offered by other chains like the four seasons or the finer relaix chateau hotels. We encountered several issues like cold french fries at lunch, stale bread at another meal (even though you pay 15 Dollars for it), and our room door would not open for 2 hours till they resolve it and did not even offer complimentary drinks or anything of that sort. In Summary, its a nice 5 star hotel with a nice Spa but no wow factor.

One of the best getaways we’ve ever experienced

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Amazing property hidden off the main road and atop a breathtaking hill. It’s both stately and modern- with a new wing of guest rooms and suites that rivals NYC’s offerings. Atmosphere is bougie as it should be. It’s expensive, of course, but it feels worth it. It feels special.
