There are soul-inspiring places in this world where one's every need is anticipated and every wish fulfilled. Hidden away in a secluded bay on Canada's Pender Island, Poets Cove Resort & Spa is one of those places. Located between Victoria and Vancouver the resort boasts a handsome Arts and Crafts-style lodge and elegant guest rooms and suites. About the property, privacy prevails in pine-enshrouded villas and cottages with marvelous water views. Your dining options are excellent with the West Coast cuisine of Aurora Restaurant and comfort food classics at Syrens.

If this review was completely based on the spa treatment from Jill it would be a 5 star review. I was going to book a stay. However, the place was dirty and obviously care was not taken by management to oversee the cleaning. They didn’t provide the spa front desk with an appropriate credit card machine so she had to find one which didn’t work either. Off to the front desk to pay an invoice. Needless to say I am not motivated in staying in a place that doesn’t even try to hide the dirt or support their staff and services. It should be mentioned that the waiter in the pub was very pleasant as well.

Waiter very uninterested in his job. My three sisters went there to celebrate our birthdays. We left after we ate. They had problems with wasps inside the restaurant and one was flying around by me. I asked for help and his response why you want me to kill it. He said just move to another table. Patio doors wide open and you look on the floor dirty with dead wasp. My dinner was not that good to boot. I would not recommend going there again. Ruined my birthday and so disappointed! We were out of there in 30 minutes.

We went to Poet's Cove marina early this summer. At one point we heard that the dock was booked out so were disappointed. When we arrived, we thought we'd take our chances and speak with the dock office person and the other dock staff. We found them so helpful in helping accommodate us as they updated their bookings (i.e. some boaters don't show up). We were impressed with how they went out of their way to help us - the communication was key, efficient and very professional. Because of this, we booked Labour Day weekend, which just happened to be our special anniversary. We so appreciated the very personal, warm welcome from all the dock staff. They are so hard-working and so approachable. Communication has been top-notch - especially from the office manager - thank you CL!! This is a very popular marina and we can see why. Please know that you truly made our anniversary special. We will be back!!

The room was decent except for the plastic wrapped cups (baffling that an island hotel is not environmentally sustainable). Staff were nice and as so many places are short handed, did a good job although the gym was quite dirty. Big complaint is the hotel never let me or other guests know about the band that played until 1030 right outside our balcony. Couldn’t sit outside to enjoy the peaceful surroundings that we had paid handsomely for. Very disruptive & disappointing to plan a visit to a peaceful place & it be ruined by the noise.

All the other terrible reviews are correct! Although there are fantastic views from the balcony facing the marina, there were numerous issues. Threadbare stuffed armchairs, ice bucket provided but no ice machine in the hotel, old furniture, no charging ports for your electronics, front desk staff could care less and look annoyed if you approach them let alone ask for something, no lotion, no AC, the Moorings Cafe has terrible service (very slow barista) as well as 2 large soy lattes that were half foam, and lower pool/hot tub out of service due to “maintenance issues”. Front desk told us when we asked upon check in that they had no idea when it would be fixed and had already been closed for 2 days, plus the 3 days we were here. Upper pool/hot tub area filled with noisy kids. We heard from people who have been coming here for years that it has really gone downhill since it changed ownership some years ago. Too bad, location is beautiful and peaceful, but this is not a great hotel by any stretch of the imagination!
