Best choice for Philadelphia

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

Fantastic property, staff and location. Being a light sleeper I was slightly worried about the hourly chimes through the night from Independence Hall, but it did not wake me and the comfortable bed and pillows plus the quiet guests made the stay super relaxing. AC is super quiet and efficient and clean conscious bath products. Breakfast was super yummy and we loved everything about the stay.

One of the best and strategically located hotel in Independence Mall of Phildelphia

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

This is a 5-star hotel in many aspects. The reason it got 1 out of 5 rating is because of an internal miscommunication among the hotel staff that violated/crossed the red line on my part. This is a one isolated situation, which I personally did not appreciate, but that does not mean this is a terrible hotel. In fact, this is a great hotel. Had this incident not happened, they would have received a stellar 5 out of 5 rating from me. The hotel did apologize and looked for ways to make it right, but this is one of areas that's unacceptable. However, I must say, the hotel manager and team handled with poised, professionalism, and maturity compared to many other hotels. The maintenance doesn't seem to have a good common sense: they delivered a microwave to the room and sat it on the table without placing/setting it up. It took up the entire area of the table. They asked me how I wanted it, I had to provide instruction saying please bring a small table/chair and set the microwave on the top. For things like this, other hotels would have done it without further instruction. The hotel did an excellent job preparing the room and cleaning, as well as in common areas. Great hot shower pressure and temperature. Convenient location: within walking distance in all main attractions, 10 minutes or less. This is perhaps one of the most strategic and best location in the Independent Mall/Hall area. It literally saves you lots of commute time. The Red Owl Tavern's breakfast offers good menu. I was so looking forward to give them a 5 out of 5 until this one-off situation happened. Some areas are repairable, some aren't. Unfortunately, it fell on a un-repairable area. But that does not mean this is an overall bad, in fact, this is a very good and solid hotel for people who are considering staying near Independent Hall/Mall area. The nightly rate is higher, for its location, service, and convenience to main attractions, saves you from commute, parking (fees), and time. Still worth it. Not the most modern building, an older building structure.

Well-located option for family stays

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Very good experience during a midweek stay with my family of four. Excellent location. Staff were very nice and prompt in addressing a minor issue with the TV one evening. Even though it's not normally included in the happy hour, they brought our kids a no-alcohol drink without us asking. The rooms are nice but not very big. We booked the Visit Philly Overnight Package through Visitphilly.com, which includes overnight valet parking in the rate. The valet was quite convenient, but if you plan to use your car frequently just know it can take 15-20 minutes for them to bring it during busier times. Pets are allowed at this hotel, which was fine for us, but if you have an aversion to dogs just know that you may meet some in the lobby or hallways. They have chess and scrabble in the lobby, if you want to kill some time. There is an excellent and reasonably priced Georgian restaurant just a couple blocks away called Sakartvelo. Also spend a little time walking around the nearby Chinatown for good food and interesting shops. It's one of a shrinking number of old, authentic Chinatowns in the Eastern US that is centrally located and still primarily caters to the local Chinese community.

We didn't like this hotel as much as the Sofitel, which was full. We probably wouldn't stay at Hotel Monaco again. Decoration was weird; no hangers in the room; housekeeping knocked and opened our door despite the occupied signed on the door.
