Home away from home

I come to Philadelphia frequently to visit my grandchildren. I have met kind and friendly people across hotel staff. The rooms are comfortable, clean and well appointed. The view from my window looks out on Independence Hall right across the street.

Nice Old City Hotel

We stayed at the hotel the night before a surgery at the University of Pennsylvania’s Pennsylvania Hospital. The hospital is just a few blocks away. The hotel is located in a great part of the city and is close to several attractions associated with the Liberty Bell and close to the water which has tons of little shops and bars and places to eat. The neighborhood itself is very safe. I would recommend staying here!

The staff has been super attentive and checking in often. This kind of personalized attention is rare now a days. It has been a pleasant surprise and I will stay here again if I’m back in Philly

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that Hotel Monaco remains unequalled.

John Adams, the Atlas of Independence, in July of 250 years ago, wrote of “Pomp and Parade.” He said this all in Independence Hall at the birth of our country. He wrote of fireworks, and this staff at Hotel Monaco Philadelphia are indeed, good old American FIREWORKS! It isn’t the funky but charming decor (the violin chairs!), it isn’t the awesome amenities, it isn’t the view of America’s Birthplace from your room. It really is the staff, who take great joy in their hospitable ways. Roshid is the Star of the Show here. If Betsy Ross had met Roshid, there would be 50 of his face on the flag instead of stars. He’s a charmer for sure. Mr. Philadelphia is not just a great concierge, he is a Celebrity of the Philly Hospitality Scene Concierge. The Great Concierge takes deep pride in creating an experience you’ll never forget. Roshid is a Philly Legend! He is as much a friend to travelers as that icon of St. Christopher on your grandpa’s Oldsmobile dashboard. I normally don’t eat in hotel restaurants, yet I enjoyed Red Owl tavern 4 times in 2 days. With servers like Renee and Samantha, who treat you as if you’re a guest in their own homes, you get return guests. I dined at perennial favorites Han Dynasty and Talula’s Garden this trip, but the meal that I keep thinking about was my perfectly cooked, which a rare thing to happen (or medium rare), and this burger was as tender as cake. It needs more recognition as a great Philly Burger. Dave the manager, you are an awesome guy, and I get it (IYKYK). Thanks for wanting me to enjoy, and I truly did. Zach you get your own paragraph here for that thrilling Mai Tai jawn. I have an idea how to market it for you, I mean it was excellent man. Kai was a nice first person to meet at the hotel when he checked me in. Darnell is an important fixture in the Monaco too, and your headphone chain I think about often buddy! To the night audit team who never get their share of love, I feel yah-I do the overnights too. You have better attyttudes than most in the profession for sure. And remember what I told you, that’s the sound of FREEDOM ringing. Also Bintou I need to somehow leave a gratuity for post trip. Always tip your hardworking Housekeepers! I remember when this hotel opened. It’s still a newish hotel, but it has not just remained consistent, it has elevated in its star power. Look I’ve lived in Philly long enough to know it’s not the flash in the pans that succeed, it’s the marathon runners like Hotel Monaco. I’m just saying, this is one of the good ones. My review is one of so many 5 star reviews. I loved every second of gushing over this hotel in this review. My return to PA was under bittersweet circumstances. The warmth I felt, and how valued you made me feel, is a high I’ve yet to come down from. Fireworks, all of you.

We didn't like this hotel as much as the Sofitel, which was full. We probably wouldn't stay at Hotel Monaco again. Decoration was weird; no hangers in the room; housekeeping knocked and opened our door despite the occupied signed on the door.
