A mixed bag....

This is our 2nd stay and the worst of the 2. First, the location cannot be better. We had a view of Independence Hall from our window. Second, the hotel is very welcoming to dogs, which is a relief. Third, I like the decor, and with the exception of the valet, the staff was friendly, although not overly helpful. A lot of shrugged shoulders and "that's the way it is" attitude. They did hold our bags for us while the parade was going, since we couldn't get our car during that time anyway. We also enjoyed the wine hour in the lobby. Nice dog bed and they provided 1 dog bowl. Now for the not so good: We arrived late afternoon during a heavy downpour. There was a backup at the valet, cares double parked, etc., so my husband waited in the car while I went to check in. The valet kept asking me for the key, and I kept explaining that my husband was in the car waiting for someone to take our bags because we weren't going to leave the car running with all our stuff in it. It took 30 min to get our bags out of the car, during which time a paper shopping bag with some pictures became completely soaked, and all of our bags got fairly wet. The whole process was a nightmare. We got to the room, discovered that the sink had a slow drain. They did send someone to fix it a few hours later. Also, only 1 luggage rack and 1 robe, spares eventually brought up (but shouldn't have happened). The next 2 mornings, there was no cream or sugar at the coffee bar, and a very poor selection of tea. One of the coffee pots was empty, no markings for regular or decaf. People were told to go to the restaurant. The restrooms for lobby/restaurant are downstairs, and the rug on the stairs is fraying in several areas - multiple trip hazards. We had asked for a late checkout because of the parade, and were told to call the night before, only to then be told then that nobody was getting a late checkout - Would've been nice to know in advance. My husband asked the front desk for change so he could tip the valet, and was again told to go to the restaurant. Some of the valets were attentive when we went in and out of the hotel, opening doors, but mostly not. Because of the distance between the parking garage and the hotel, it took 20-30 min. to get the car. The restaurant was just ok. Most things were a little too 'fancy' for our taste, so we ordered the cheesesteak. The meat was shredded instead of chopped, the onions were chopped so small that it was hard to even see them. Just a bit disappointing. I generally like Kimpton properties. However this visit started out very poorly, so the other more minor issues later added to our negative overall experience.

Ah, so splendid- the place to be!

History tour gone awry due to government closure-this said, Monaco Philadelphia provided insightful help in a welcoming atmosphere with outstanding service. Everyone is cheerful and helpful allowing for a relaxed, well-pampered stay; and the well-maintained rooms do sport glass drinking vessels as well as bathrobes - a no brainer for good establishments, but dearly lacking in other places we visited prior to arriving here in Philadelphia. So an all-round five, which refers to service, ambience, quirky-good interior design, safety, inclusiveness, and in general other amenities. Not to mention the premium location, if you happen to love history, this is the spot, even with government closure you are right in the middle of it. Thank you !

Scratched my car in Valet

Do NOT get valet! They scratched my car door then told me the manager would call me after having me fill out a BLANK piece of paper with my contact information. They never called me and when I tried calling they kept hanging up or saying they would call me back. Never got a call.

Best customer service ever!

Haven't stayed yet, but I'm sure the stay will be amazing based on others reviews. I wanted to say that I had a unique situation in trying to book a reservation, and everyone me and my team spoke with, Rachel, Olga, Daniel (Or David, I'm drawing a blank) were SIMPLY AMAZING! They understood my situation and were so helpful every step of the way. I would book with them again if I'm in the area.

We didn't like this hotel as much as the Sofitel, which was full. We probably wouldn't stay at Hotel Monaco again. Decoration was weird; no hangers in the room; housekeeping knocked and opened our door despite the occupied signed on the door.
