Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra

We arrived in Phnom Penh already expecting a good hotel. We left rather reluctant to leave at all. We’re travelling around Southeast Asia for six months on our honeymoon, and as an ALL Platinum member have stayed in some wonderful Accor properties along the way, including the Sofitel Legend Metropole in Hanoi. Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra absolutely deserves to sit among the very best of them. The hotel itself is beautiful, calm and extremely comfortable, but what really made the stay was the staff. From our first very positive email exchange with Lou before arrival, we felt looked after rather than simply processed. On arrival they greeted us at the door by name, led us to Club Millésime where they had prepared four plates of canapés to cater for our vegetarian and increasingly vegan diet, and throughout the stay people remembered us, chatted to us and seemed genuinely interested in making sure we were enjoying ourselves. Service standards were exceptional throughout the hotel. Everyone we encountered was unfailingly polite, warm and remarkably efficient. What impressed us most were the tiny details. At one point housekeeping noticed I was cleaning my glasses and later brought me two microfibre lens cloths. It sounds like a trivial thing, but that level of attention tells you a great deal about how the hotel is run. The hotel became somewhere we actively wanted to spend time rather than just somewhere to collect the Platinum benefits. The lounge bar manager, Mr T, in particular was an absolute star. He looked after us brilliantly, made excellent cocktails, including my Brazilian husband’s best caipirinha outside Brazil, joined us for a night out after his shift, and on our final day even gave me the bar’s solitary copper drinking mug after I’d mentioned how much I liked it. That sort of gesture says far more about the hospitality here than any list of facilities ever could. The wider team were just as lovely. During the stay we were given thoughtful honeymoon gifts, and at checkout they handed us a personalised card covered with hilarious caricatures and individual messages from the staff, together with photographs from our stay. It was incredibly sweet and clearly something that had taken genuine effort. We were made to feel as though our stay had actually mattered to them. We certainly felt that way about them. The hotel also worked perfectly as a refuge from Phnom Penh itself. We had some intense experiences in the city, particularly Tuol Sleng and Choeung Ek, and coming back each time to somewhere so peaceful, warm and welcoming was enormously appreciated. We have stayed in a lot of lovely hotels on this trip. Very few have been this hard to leave. A huge thank you to the whole team. If we ever return to Phnom Penh, there is no question where we would stay.

There are luxury hotels, & then there is the Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra. My husband Ray and I have been fortunate enough to stay in many beautiful hotels around the world, but nothing compares to the warmth, kindness, and genuine hospitality we experienced here. From the moment we arrived until the moment we reluctantly checked out, we were treated like family. Every single member of the team greeted us with genuine smiles, remembered our names, asked about our day, and made us feel so incredibly welcome. Wherever we went throughout the hotel, we were acknowledged with kindness and respect. It wasn’t just exceptional service—it was heartfelt hospitality from some of the most beautiful people we have ever met. I was celebrating my birthday, and the Sofitel team created memories that I will treasure for the rest of my life. They completely spoiled me with two beautiful birthday cakes, thoughtful surprises, and the most incredible personalised birthday video from Chris and Gladys. The moment I watched it, I became so overwhelmed with emotion that I cried. It was one of the most thoughtful and meaningful gifts I have ever received, and it perfectly reflected the genuine love and care this incredible team puts into making every guest feel special. As if that wasn’t enough, when we were leaving for Siem Reap, we were presented with a beautiful personalised farewell card featuring photos from our stay and heartfelt wishes for the rest of our journey through Cambodia. It was such an unexpected and touching gesture that perfectly summed up the incredible attention to detail and genuine care shown by everyone at Sofitel. It’s something we will treasure forever. A very special thank you to Duty Manager Lulu, Liz, Nida, Piseth, Phanno, Manet, Sreynoa, Rida, Lou Ann, Neangsim, Neath, and Sophorn. Every one of you made our stay unforgettable with your professionalism, kindness, warmth, and genuine care. I would also like to give the biggest thank you to Seila in the spa. You absolutely spoiled me rotten and made every visit feel like a true luxury experience. Your gentle nature, incredible talent, and genuine kindness made me feel completely relaxed and so well looked after. Every treatment was perfection, and you made me feel so special. Your kindness, thoughtfulness, and attention to detail went far beyond anything we could have expected. The rooms are luxurious, the food is exceptional, the facilities are immaculate, and every detail reflects excellence. But what truly makes this hotel extraordinary is its people. You have created something very rare—a place where guests don’t just feel welcomed; they feel loved, appreciated, and genuinely cared for. We arrived as guests, but we left feeling like family. To every single member of the Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra team, thank you for making my birthday one of the most magical and memorable celebrations of my life. The memories you’ve given us will stay in our hearts forever. We already can’t wait to return—this time with our children—so they can experience the same love, kindness, and unforgettable hospitality that made our stay so incredibly special. Such an enjoyable stay! The staff are top notch and we really had a good time here. The breakfast selection is good, and the complimentary drinks and snacks in the rooms is a nice touch. I particularly enjoyed reading and relaxing with daily drinks and light snacks in the Club Millesime Lounge. The hotel grounds feel like an oasis in the city and I have fond memories of playing tennis at their Sports Club. Ms. Keo was helpful in locating and assisting with our purchase and delivery of an electronic charger to the hotel. Vutha contacted the concierge at our next hotel to ask him to arrange sightseeing tours of interest. Our transportation transfers and excursions booked through the hotel were well executed so we felt well comfortable and secure. As we waved goodbye to Keo, TV, Vutha and Vatey, I thought that I would love to stay here again. Overall, the service at the Sofitel Phnom Penh was consistently good and its staff are well trained to a 5-star level while keeping the charm of the Cambodian people.

I have traveled extensively and usually don't write reviews - however, my two sons and I visited the Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra for two days this July before moving on to Siem Reap. The hotel, staff, amenities, food, atmosphere and location were simply amazing. The entire staff is so welcoming, hospitable and attentive. Our flight out of Cambodia was cancelled due to a typhoon in Hong Kong but thanks to Ms. Rida's assistance, we were delighted to be able to spend one additional night with our friends at the Sofitel. Mr. Vutha and Mr. Khim: thank you both for your graciousness during our visit. To the young woman who taught me how to feed Lionel: thank you!
