The only thing that rivals the natural beauty surrounding The Naka Phuket is the architecture designed to enhance it. The resort is stunning – so stunning that it won Best New Hotel in Wallpaper’s 2014 Design Awards – and its mountainous location on the west side of Phuket is far away from city lights. Here the ocean glimmers through the seemingly endless glass expanse of the minimally designed villas, where teak, granite and concrete give them a cool, industrial feel.

Absolutely loved the huge rooms, the floor to ceiling windows, was very modern, comfortable and well laid out The only negative would be they don’t have a full length mirror, but everything else was perfect Loved how modern the resort is it’s like nothing I’ve ever stayed in before. The Wiwa restaurant was excellent and the breakfast was amazing, everything you could wish for.

The villas are outstanding, a real "wow" moment on arrival! Incredibly spacious and such comfortable beds and a good large terrace adjacent to a decent size pool. One of the best I have stayed in. Would be difficult for those with visual impairment, though, as there is a lot of charcoal grey and tinted glass! Staff are absolutely incredible, so polite and everyone greets you with a smile! As others have said, the hotel is on quite a steep slope, though there are small vans/buggies running back and forth, which can be called with ease by telephone, from call points or by asking a staff member. The beach is stony to the extent that beach shoes are needed and even then access to the sea needs to be with great care. These are not just pebbles! Snorkelling opportunities are limited to high tide when there are plenty of fish etc. Not the best, depending on where you have explored previously, but worth a look! The hotel is great and relaxing with plenty of sunbeds and shade available, the pool is very impressive and quiet and the food (and presentation) is lovely. However we were on a "package" which included lunch and dinner, which was just one course from a set menu, which was the same at both meals. The package also included a cocktail but anything outside of that was chargeable (eg a beer) at prices which are ridiculous for Thailand. We stayed for 6 nights which was too long. The hotel is very isolated and activities therefore limited, which, together with the set menu became almost tedious! Three nights would have been enough. Three suggestions for the hotel: 1) construct a jetty so that guests can access the sea safely for swimming/snorkelling, 2) the "inclusive" set menu needs more variety (and possibly an option of starters, rather than solely main courses, which were often too big to do them justice; and 3) change the music in the restaurant/reception areas which was so repetitive that it became annoying as soon as you become aware (we could hear it from reception in our room and it drove me mad!). Having read my review, it feels rather unfair as this is a beautiful hotel with tremendous staff (hence the 5 star score!), I just think 6 nights was too long a stay.

Our stay at The Naka Phuket was everything — and more — than we needed. In the middle of busy Phuket, it delivers true serenity. The private beach is one of its most underrated luxuries. Quiet, pristine, beautifully maintained, and never crowded. No competing jet skis, no chaotic foot traffic — just soft sand, clear water, and uninterrupted calm. It genuinely feels exclusive. Our oceanfront pool villa offered the architectural drama The Naka is known for — glass walls, clean lines, and panoramic Andaman Sea views. Sunsets from the terrace felt cinematic. Total privacy, total quiet. But what elevates this property far beyond design is the staff. ⸻ Service That Competes With Global Luxury Brands Thailand is the Land of Smiles — and here, that reputation is upheld at the highest level. Yah, who looked after us daily at the pool, is world-class. She greeted us each morning with genuine warmth and took care of us through lunch service with effortless professionalism. On our final evening — Lunar New Year — she was bartending at the hotel’s special BBQ celebration. Seeing her there felt personal and thoughtful. And that Lunar New Year BBQ was spectacular: Fresh sushi, roast duck, pork, chicken, live wok station, seafood BBQ, dim sum, specialty Chinese dishes, and an impressive dessert spread including a chocolate fountain. The offering was beautifully curated and excellent value for money. A special thank you to Whiskey & Ice — yes, those are their names — who made dinner service memorable from the very first evening. They remembered our names throughout our stay, and Whiskey even came to serve us during our in-villa BBQ experience. Those small gestures make a big impact. The front desk team recalled our room number simply by seeing us approach. Buggy drivers knew exactly where we were headed without explanation. The spa staff were attentive and intuitive. This level of consistency is rare. ⸻ Element Spa & Wellness Do not miss The Element Spa treatment. The therapists are exceptional, and the experience delivered exactly what R&R should feel like — restorative, calm, and deeply professional. We also loved the wellness programming hosted by Tom, who offers both complimentary and private classes. We took Tai Chi and yoga — one session was a private in-villa class — and it was exactly the reset we needed. Challenging enough to feel productive, thoughtful enough to ease us back into a healthy rhythm. ⸻ The App — Finally, One That Works Unlike many resorts that attempt guest apps and fail to deliver usability, The Naka’s app actually works — and works well. Through it, you can: • Request buggy pickups • Schedule turndown service • Order housekeeping • Request amenities • Book spa treatments • Reserve sports activities (complimentary or private) It’s seamless and intuitive — a small but meaningful operational win. ⸻ Final Reflection As much as we’ve traveled — and stayed at some of the most globally recognized and expensive brands — The Naka’s team measures up. Luxury isn’t just price point. It’s attentiveness, memory, warmth, and execution. This stay reminded me how far a simple smile goes — and that kindness should always be mutual between guest and staff. If you’re looking for privacy, serenity, architectural beauty, and service that feels personal rather than corporate, look no further. We’re already planning our return next year. Khop khun khâ 🙏
