About the Hotel

The Slate is no ordinary beachside resort of thatched-roof cabanas – in its secluded location against a backdrop of dense rainforest, it crosses into the territory of cutting-edge design hotel, and the juxtaposition of nature and industry is alluring. The inspiration for The Slate came from owner Wichit Na-Ranong, whose ancestors led the country’s development through the tin mining industry. Na-Ranong pays tribute to “black gold” through sleek architecture and dark color motifs punctuated by objets d’art. Restaurants Rivet and Rebar, led by chef Fabrizio Crocetta, serve up some of Thailand’s most innovative and eclectic fare.

Brilliant - just as it was in 2018 and 2019! It is extremely quiet, immaculately presented and maintained throughout including the surrounding gardens, grounds and pools (3). The decor is industrial chic inspired by Phuket's tin mining history and glorious in its raw beauty with Thai traditional furnishings and silks to soften and never fails to delight us. The reception area is spectacular as are all the restaurants. The spa treatments are sublime. Rebar is fabulous - 1 of 2 dedicated bars with wonderful views of the resort and sunset. We stay in the Pearl Bed Suites which have high ceilings and are incredibly spacious in terms of the bedroom and bathroom which is unique and unlike most hotels/resorts for the price with large balcony + day bed + table + chairs + outdoor bath. We have also stayed in the Pool Villas which are simply awesome! We love the Slate's unique industrial design with traditional Thai cultural influences to soften the decor, and the reception area is the most elegant we've seen in +24yrs holidaying in Thailand and friendly staff. Its a special resort, and suitable for all ages. Fantastic generous specials on offer every day making it affordable luxury for a 5-star resort. With 2 adult and 1 family pools all with service on offer, you can't go wrong. It is expansive and you never really notice the number of guests which is great. Nai Yang Beach is just behind the Slate, very safe, with security entry/exit with casual dining on the beach offering reasonably priced food/drinks, with supermarket/pharmacy close by and fresh fruit stalls. Bikes available. Helpful mobile app to book services with 8 restaurants and cars, art gallery, fitness studio, tennis courts, and kids club. Daily specials on offer, and happy hour every day everywhere in the hotel. Traditional Thai Restaurant Black Ginger which you get taken to by raft is a sublime elegant experience! Great location close to airport - but you absolutely cannot hear any planes at all! Only a 40min drive to Patong Beach - its not like Bali, traffic moves and easy to travel around during the day by scooter, with a driver or rental car.

I have taken some time thinking about how I would word this review as we stayed in May this year. Once again, The Slate was above expectations and delivered service beyond compare. The staff are always very friendly and accommodating and nothing is any trouble to them. We stayed 10 nights and fortunately had the package upgrade from the Indigo Room to the Pearl Bed Suite. The offers in the package put many hotels to shame and it is easy to see why The Slate is so popular. With complimentary evening drinks, a complimentary lunch, dinner and massage treatment, it truly is great value. The breakfast is always very enjoyable and it is good to have Asian options. Once again, we had the pleasure of dining at Black Ginger. I am amazed at this beautiful setting and the food and service. Truly, what a dining experience this is. Even allowing for 2 minor inconveniences, I will always rate The Slate very highly. Plus, the access to the local village and beach area is so easy. Apart from one day of torrential rain, the weather for the time of year was perfect. Travel to Phuket in the wet season is not a negative. My wife and I are already planning a return for next year, once again, for another special occasion.

Memorable stay at The Slate

I chose The Slate to celebrate my birthday, and it was the perfect decision. The rooms were spacious, spotless, and very comfortable. The breakfast spread was amazing, and the staff in the breakfast area were always warm, smiling, and attentive—constantly offering coffee refills. A special shoutout to the Black Ginger team—the food was absolutely delicious, and the drinks were equally impressive. Our room was always well taken care of, with the cleaner accommodating every request we had. Big thanks to Guitar and Dada for their wonderful service and hospitality that made our stay even more memorable. Highly recommended!

A Perfect Stay from Start to Finish Our experience at The Slate was fantastic from the moment we arrived until checkout. Everything was seamless and welcoming. The breakfast was another highlight: fresh, healthy, and truly delicious. The rooms are stylish and unique, with attention to every detail, even the soap and the doors are beautifully designed. Beds were super comfortable, and the facilities are top-notch. The gym is well-equipped, the pool is lovely, and the beach is just a short walk away. They also have a great beach area right in front, and the location is perfect, close to everything you need, including restaurants, shops, and local conveniences.
