About the Hotel

The Slate is no ordinary beachside resort of thatched-roof cabanas – in its secluded location against a backdrop of dense rainforest, it crosses into the territory of cutting-edge design hotel, and the juxtaposition of nature and industry is alluring. The inspiration for The Slate came from owner Wichit Na-Ranong, whose ancestors led the country’s development through the tin mining industry. Na-Ranong pays tribute to “black gold” through sleek architecture and dark color motifs punctuated by objets d’art. Restaurants Rivet and Rebar, led by chef Fabrizio Crocetta, serve up some of Thailand’s most innovative and eclectic fare.

The Slate is a stunning hotel with a huge territory and breathtaking views.

The Slate is a stunning hotel with a huge territory and breathtaking views. Even after 10 days, we still didn’t manage to explore the entire property. There are so many beautiful plants, unique art installations, and many other fascinating details throughout the resort. The room was spacious and comfortable. At first, the design concept was a little surprising, but after learning more about the hotel’s philosophy and story, everything made perfect sense and became truly impressive. The room had many thoughtful amenities, excellent housekeeping, and it was clear that the hotel genuinely cares about its guests. Having a coffee machine in the room was a wonderful touch. There were, however, a few small drawbacks: the limescale in the shower was not very pleasant to see, and the lighting in the room was sometimes too dim, which could be a little frustrating. The breakfast at the hotel was absolutely amazing! We have never experienced such a wide variety of dishes before. We also really appreciated the thoughtful gifts from the hotel: the welcome gift, dinner experience, spa treatment, and farewell gift. The dinner was quite unique, but we chose this particular restaurant ourselves — Black Ginger. The atmosphere was incredible, and the whole experience was truly beautiful and memorable. I will definitely come back!

Families, Read This Before Booking!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

Families, Read This Before Booking We recently stayed at The Slate for three nights as a family of four and, overall, had a very enjoyable stay. The resort is stunning, with beautiful tropical gardens, unique architecture and a relaxing atmosphere. Our family suite was spacious, comfortable and perfect for travelling with young children. The staff were one of the highlights of our stay. From the warm welcome with flowers and drinks on arrival to the smooth check-out and airport transfer, everyone was friendly, professional and genuinely helpful. Breakfast was also excellent, with a wide variety of fresh, high-quality food. There were a few issues during our stay. Unfortunately, the air conditioning did not work properly on our first night, making it difficult to sleep. The staff responded quickly, apologised and kindly provided us with a complimentary meal, which we appreciated. Families should also be aware that some of the resort’s pools are adults-only. This is explained on the website, but we had overlooked it when booking. The adults-only pools include some of the resort’s most eye-catching features, such as the spa-style bubble jets and impressive water features shown in many promotional photos. The family pool is still enjoyable, but it is a simpler pool, so we were a little disappointed that we couldn’t experience those signature areas together as a family. We also found a small piece of plastic in our daughter’s burger during dinner. The restaurant staff handled the situation very professionally by apologising immediately, replacing the meal and bringing fresh fruit, which we appreciated. No hotel is perfect, and what impressed us most was how the staff responded whenever something went wrong. Their service and attitude were excellent throughout our stay. Despite the few issues we experienced, we had a memorable family holiday and would happily stay at The Slate again. If you’re travelling with children, it’s simply worth being aware of the adults-only pool areas before booking.

Relaxing Family Retreat

Another great time at the Slate. The staff really made our stay enjoyable, from Aye at front desk, Choong and Tan from Tin Mine, Boy from the Pool, Kamen from the Leisure centre. Fantastic Thai food experience at the Black Ginger with chef Piak making delicious sampler of Thai cuisine. We had a wonderful birthday celebration there. As it was our 3rd visit in 3 years, we were welcome by a little treat: a bottle of sparkling wine with fruits and seeets all set in our room before our arrival, with a kind note from the hotel, showing how this hotel is caring about us.
