Reviews for The Surin Phuket

Absolut perfection. A paradise.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

This hotel is the result of my extensive research for a perfect Phuket holiday. Flying long haul from Finland left me unwilling to travel to far away islands for the barefoot luxury experience, especially with shorter holiday and a child. I still wanted to find a place away from the crowded beaches. The Surin Phuket blew me away and exceeded all of my expectations. The private beach was spotlessly clean with white sand and turquoise sea. We loved both the beach villa with straight access to the beach and the privacy and luxury of the newer pool villa. The staff is excellent, attentive and abundant. Never waited long in restaurants, never had to correct an order. Food options were plenty, cocktails tasty. This is the best hotel to stay in Phuket if you wish for island aesthetics with easy access. This is not for party goers but for people to unwind and enjoy their holiday. We will most definately return.

Perfection in a Phuket Thailand Beach Resort

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

REVIEW TITLE: Perfection in a Phuket Thailand Beach Resort OVERALL RATING: Exceptional on this our third stay at The Surin. Location, location, location - this is the “beach gem” of Phuket. The Surin is the magic combination of being a high end tranquil haven and so friendly - without the attitude of a few “more glitzy” properties. REVIEWER BACKGROUND: Fortunate to travel extensively. I have done travel advising for years. We are always looking for that magic stay and we found it “again” at The Surin Resort in Phuket. DATES OF STAY: 6 nights mid February 2026. ROOM/S: We specifically reserved an oceanfront “Beach Studio Suite” for uninterrupted water views and ocean access. My recommendation would be to reserve accommodation as close to beachfront as fits your budget. However, the cascade of cottages from the top of the hill to oceanfront are all wonderful. The resort has very attentive golf carts that can take you all over the property promptly with simply a call. We were 3 in the room - a master bed and lovely daybed set at the front window. The bedroom area was large - the bathroom area very large - the oceanfront deck was extensive. LOCATION & VIEW: Location, location, location. The Surin is beachfront on a small protected cove called Pansea Beach which is midpoint on the west coast of Phuket. I cannot overemphasize that this location is the definition of a gem. 1) Protected small cove. 2) Only 2 hotels are on this cove - the Surin since 1982 and the Aman since 1988. POOL & BEACH: The pool is spotless and huge as pictured and around 80 degrees (February). The ocean is clear calm water around 80 degrees (February). It is heaven to pop back and forth between the two. The beach is on the small cove called Pansea Beach with Seychelles like boulders on each end. The staff silently grooms the beach each morning by hand and with brooms and rakes. Though Thai beaches are public, the beach here is effectively used by hotel guests only as the sole access to the beach is through the private property of these 2 hotels. This is so key as public beaches in Thailand are often filled with crowds and vendors - so are anything but peaceful. The Surin has a policy that is a bit of genius - and as such a point of stress for many resort goers is simply “gone”. Upon arrival the guest chooses the pool or beach chair/s they wish for their stay - and these are reserved for them. No more worrying if you will get a chair - no more getting us early (on vacation no less) to put your items on a chair. If fact the pool and beach - though high season for us in February - were calm and not crowded. Extensively over the property - and at the beach entrance to cottages - are water tubs with coconut labels as sand washing stations. Included in the room price at no extra charge are pool/beach chaises, towels, and non-motorized water sports equipment. BREAKFAST: 6:30 am - 10:30 am. Lomtalay Restaurant. At the upper floor of the main building with a panoramic view over the pool and Andaman Sea. Sparkling wine is included complimentary. Cappuccinos for example come with “The Surin” beautifully written in cinnamon on top …..always the special touches! You can order off the menu (extensive custom Western and Thai dishes) - or - visit the dining floor for two chef’s stations and truly extensive self serve Western and Asian choices. To name only a few of the stations - Thai warm specialties, chef’s station of omelettes and Asian soup/condiments, bacon (both crispy and not crispy), potatoes, vegetables, assorted dim sum, chef’s station of pancakes/crepes/waffles, breads/donuts, fruits/yogurts, Thai cold specialties, cereals, charcuterie meats and cheeses. LUNCH & DINNER: The Surin makes it so comfortable and yummy to stay largely on property and dine well. The fantastic Executive Chef manages it all - plus the resort has a clearly exceptional Thai chef as well. The Surin has a great app you can load to your phone and food and drink items can be ordered delivered to the room - or your beach chair. SUGGESTION: Put the menus (with prices) of the restaurants on the website as the menus are great. I had to write for them. Noon - 11 pm. Poolside Dining Restaurant. Pool level ocean front. We had many lunches here and our last two dinners. Excellent on all levels. Great Thai dishes and many other selections. Of note are two inventive delicious thin crust Thai pizzas (chicken satay or pork tom yum). We were told that the menus at Poolside and at Sunset are interchangeable - which includes if you order a main or grilled dish at dinner you receive a complimentary glass of wine. Noon - 11 pm. Sunset Restaurant. Up at the level of the Lomtalay Restaurant. We had one dinner reservation there - and moved down to the Poolside Dining Restaurant because the Sunset Restaurant on that evening was too warm and breezeless up top. 5 pm - 11 pm. The Beach Restaurant. Beachfront at the far right of the resort facing the ocean. Gorgeous outdoor dining fronting the ocean and illuminated palm trees. Authentic and inventive high end Thai. Indoor dining pavillon in case of rain. DRINK: 9am - Midnight. The Beach Bar. Beachfront oceanside of the pool. Wines, beers, and a decent size cocktail menu. SUGGESTION: The Surin is fairly flawless - but as a kind suggestion - I think the cocktail menu needs some attention. We only “re-ordered” two of the cocktails we tried. In trying cocktails in 2 spots outside the hotel, it would be fun for The Surin to explore some more local ingredient based truly craft cocktails. STAFF: Interaction with management and/or staff was great. The Thai people are joyous, beaming, kind, and so well mannered and the staff of The Surin is to be commended. Of special note, Dada is a “national treasure” of The Surin as a 30 year employee and a key hostess/server at the breakfast Lomtalay and lunch Poolside Dining Restaurants. She simply overflows with joy and it is infectious. SPECIAL TOUCHES: Special touches were equal to anywhere we have stayed at in the world - such kudos to The Surin. Bottom line, “what does The Surin not think of”. Let me list as many as I can remember to give some perspective to the extension thought put into the guest experience. a hand written note from the General Manager Thomas Ehrhart in the room at arrival welcoming us back, pikake and orchid wrist leis at arrival with juice and cool towels pikake and orchid mini leis on our pillows each night complimentary mini-fridge non-alcoholic beverages and beer daily fruit plate his and her straw sun hats - a fedora and a sun floppy bonnet two straw fans umbrellas flashlight Surin flip flops whimsical arrangement on our bed of a dog with sunglasses made of bath towels extensive Surin app to load on your phone. We got extra hangers in minutes. On the app we ordered a mattress topper for the main bed - and an extra chaise and umbrella and chair for the large outdoor deck area as we were 3 in the room. These items (including the heavy umbrella with stand) literally all came within minutes of ordering and were installed with efficiency and grace. BIRTHDAY: This visit to The Surin was to celebrate a major birthday. There were so many special touches. Arrival - on the bed was a huge orchid heart encircling “Welcome Back” and “Happy Birthday” spelled out in letters of palm leaf. Spa - pink plumeria flowers on the table and “Happy Birthday” spelled out in letters of palm leaf. Birthday night - we got back to the room and on the bed was a huge orchid heart surrounding a multi-tier “birthday cake” made of towels and covered with red rose pedals. Cake - twice we arrived back in the room and there was an exquisitely decorated slice of birthday cake complete with utensils and a new package of birthday candles. MANAGEMENT RECEPTION: Management gave a complimentary cocktail party beachfront for the guests our last night. The setting was stunning in front of The Beach Restaurant with a cocktail of the evening, beer, wine, bubbly, and passed hors d’oeuvres. The eloquent and charming General Manager Thomas Ehrhart made a point to meet many guests and we also interacted again with the equally charming Food & Beverage Director Boris. It is a lovely touch to do for the guests. He was not at the reception, but we were greeted at our arrival by Deputy GM Andrew who was equally great to interact with. TRANSPORTATION: Arrival & Departure - I highly recommend arranging transport from the hotel to and from the airport. We were a party of 3 and a lovely air conditioned private van took us to and from the airport with great efficiency and safety and comfort. Price was 1,700 Baht (US $55) each way. Phuket excursions - we used Singapore based widely respected GRAB (the local version of Uber/Lyft). GRAB was so efficient and safe and well priced. We also used them in Singapore extensively. PRACTICAL INFORMATION: Immediately outside the front gate of The Surin are several stores that may come in handy. Tourist items - there are perhaps 5-10 tiny local item/clothing stores (from the hotel across the street and to the right). Food/drinks/sundries - Tops Daily & Tops Wine Cellar (from the hotel immediately to the left) and 7Eleven (from the hotel to the right). It is good to know that with the heat - with the small hill involved - that a Surin golf cart can take you up and down the @1/4 mile hill from resort reception to the resort front security gate where the shops start- and back up to resort reception when done. OTHER EXPERIENCES: We left The Surin only 3 times, all of which I recommend: Phuket Elephant Nature Reserve. An ethical elephant reserve. 20 minutes from The Surin (by GRAB) with a 1.5 hour visit with 5 female free roaming elephants. A lovely experience. Ta Khai Restaurant at the Rosewood Hotel. 40 minutes from The Surin (GRAB). Big birthday multi course birthday dinner in a magical setting. I would not want to stay at the Rosewood - but it was the perfect spot for such a special occasion dinner. Suay Cherngtalay Restaurant. 20 minutes from The Surin (GRAB). An Iron Chef Thailand restaurant with a fun Thai fusion menu. Suay has been noted in the Michelin Guide for 8 consecutive years. Great cocktails and eclectic food. In summary, The Surin is Thai beach resort perfection and we look forward to our next visit. Thank you management and staff for another amazing trip and for everything you clearly do to make the guest experience so special.

It keeps getting better and better

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Yet another fabulous 3.5 weeks spent at The Surin. The location really works for us even though we understand the steps around the resort may not be ideal for everyone. We consider this as part of our daily exercise, however, the hotel provides an excellent buggy service. The restaurants offer a variety of cuisine, suitable for anyone , The Thai restaurant is particularly good, great location too. We noticed the Management have made some subtle improvements which we appreciated. Looking forward to returning next year.

Such a Treat

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Friends have been going to The Surin for 15+ years. Three years ago, I overlapped with their trip. I had such a wonderful time, I have now been back for three years running. There are so many positives; beautiful setting, beautifully appointed cottages, amazing breakfast, terrific spa treatments, helpful- engaging staff, accessible management checking everything is running smoothly. The hotel has been in operation for decades and seems to continue to improve all elements of the resort. One of the benefits of this hotel is that you can eat at the hotel restaurants or take a short walk to local restaurants.
