Itzana Resort & Residences

Really nice midsize resort with everything you need. Good restaurant, super comfortable pool, and nice beach. We were in a standard room and it was quite nice. The bathrooms could get an update but they were still nice.

We stayed for a week and enjoyed it. The rooms are great with comfy beds and excellent quality bed linen and pillows. The pool is possibly the best I have ever swum in - it is stunning, huge and a wonderful temperature - an absolute joy to be in. There is not much of a beach due to erosion, however what is there is nice and sandy. They need to invest in more sun loungers on the beach however as they only had two loungers and one daybed for a large hotel which is not enough. Yes they had some beanbags but who wants to lie on a beanbag?! The service at the hotel is very hit and miss. If you get the right server you have a good experience, however, the majority of the time I would say that the service is a bit chaotic and not to the standard I would expect from a quality hotel. Staff forgot about orders twice in one week and we were not the only ones to suffer with this issue. One day there were no pool towels at all for the entire day. So would I recommend this hotel? Yes for the facilities and location, no for the service. The food is average so we went into town most nights on the shuttle which is very efficient (but chargeable).

The grounds, pool, main building, dining room and bar are all very nice … worthy of the high ratings this hotel receives. We had to be moved from our poolside “deluxe” room as the AC was inoperable. We were relocated to the “marina-side” villas across the road and away from the pool and the Caribbean Sea. We were initially not pleased, but the villas are two story, fully equipped units with a private plunge pool, kitchen, living room and a main suite with very nice bath and balcony looking to the west and sunsets. We rented a golf cart (this should have been done in advance but we lucked out with a last minute cancellation.). The golf cart enabled us to go to town for shops and dinners as we did not find Itz’ana’s restaurant to be terribly good (lunch and poolside service were very good.). We had the included continental breakfast once and did not go back the remaining mornings we were there With better dining we would have rated this 5 stars. The coffee shop on the marina side served up good espresso drinks with friendly service while their baked goods were just ok.

Very hospitable, great atmosphere. Customer service at the restaurant is A+. Great service, great food, reasonable prices
