Mahekal translates to magical and once you set foot on the property you’ll see why. Stunning beach views and super comfortable accommodations. The best food of any all inclusive ever. Catch of the day should be renamed catch of the hour-Kingfish and Mahi Mahi were expertly prepared and stunningly fresh/delicious. Staff is genuinely friendly and seem excited to serve/provide anything you need. Special shoutout to Concierge Abraham who has this uncanny ability to anticipate what you need before you even communicate it. Responds hyper fast to requests. Can’t imagine going anywhere else. Beautiful resort and the staff were excellent—friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Unfortunately, repeated noise issues really impacted our experience. There were events near our suite, including one night where a beach party went until 6 a.m., making it impossible to sleep. I emailed management about it and received no response. That lack of follow-up ultimately overshadowed what could have been a great stay.

This was our first time visiting Mahekal and can admit that we had a really nice time there. We stayed in a beachfront cabin #2 with private plunge pool. The room was accommodating and did not disappoint us at all. The cabin included a palapa on the beach exclusively for our use which was also a nice bonus. Personnel: Roberto was very attentive to anything we needed. From arranging transportation to resolving minor issues that we brought up, things were taken care of very quickly. Gilberto was always ready to serve us drinks or food while on the beach. He recommended food and drinks that did not disappoint and was always very professional and readily available for orders to be taken. Cata (or Catalina) was the one who tended to our rooms and always made sure to ask if we needed anything additional that may have not been included in the daily room service. Yet another one of the many hospitable persons that we encountered on our trip. The Proprerty: We walked most of the property and will admit that we felt is was very well maintained. From the grounds to the pool areas, and bars, we didn't see or find any reasons to complain. The only thing (as several people have mentioned) is that you do have a couple of bars on each end of the resort and along the water. During our stay, there was a wedding taking place the first night, however, Roberto did inform us of this and also mentioned that it would be ending ~10:30 or 11pm - to which it did. We didn't mind as the DJ had a really great playlist going (kuddos to the DJ there). The second night was another event that concluded around the same time - we didn't like the playlist there but to each their own. Ironically, after this nights music stopped, one of the beachside bars started with their music (around midnight). I will be honest in that it was really loud to the point of clearly hearing it inside the cabana, however, many reviews I read before making our reservations were pretty clear about this. The remainder of our stay was without any additional weddings/celebrations, nor beach bar music. What we also found as a bonus were the restaurants immediately around Mahekal. They are so much more different from what you find on 5th avenue (at least in our opinion). In summary, my wife and I had a really good time, enjoyed the room that we reserved and were very pleased with the personnel that the resort has working.

I rarely write negative reviews, but this stay was a major disappointment. The biggest letdown was the buffet — very underwhelming food, repetitive options, and not what you would expect from a resort at this price point. Every day we hoped it would improve, and every day it was the same disappointment. The only saving grace of the entire stay was the poolside food and the service there, especially Armando, our poolside server, who was amazing. He was attentive, friendly, and provided the best service we experienced the entire trip. Unfortunately, that was the only consistently positive part of the experience. Another major issue: there is a large family of raccoons living on the property, and they fight loudly over food at night. This isn’t a small nuisance — it kept multiple members of our family awake across several rooms. On top of that, Friday night there was a rave next door that played music until 6 a.m., and again, no one in our group could sleep. For a resort that’s supposed to be relaxing, this was unacceptable. Also, be aware there are no TVs in the rooms and there is basically no entertainment around the pools. There was a speaker out there at times, but it was inconsistent on what days it was even set up, and when it was, the music was very low and you could barely hear it. The resort felt very quiet and honestly a bit boring because of this. Fuego restaurant was just okay — not terrible, but nothing memorable and definitely not enough to make up for the rest of the food on the property. The icing on the cake was checkout. They literally radio someone to go check your room to see if you took any minibar items before you can leave — and what were they checking for? A small bottle of Evian water. It felt cheap and tacky and was a very disappointing way to end the trip. Overall, this resort did not live up to expectations, and I would not stay here again. There are far better options in the area for the price.

A bit late posting. In the end, we would not return and DO NOT RECOMMEND. 1) The online photos look a lot better than reality. Sadly, this is a very run down property, lots of things that could be easily repaired or replaced that has been ignored by the ownership (profits and all). FAR from the 5-star experience we were sold. 2) Staff are nice - the best part about this resort. 3) Beach - not a plus. Partially due to it being public/busy/loud and partially due to uncontrollable sargassum - not their fault but still ick for a "beach holiday". 4) Contacting anyone at this resort prior to our arrival was a fail. My several emails and WhatsApp messages to every and any number I could find related to this resort - nada. I could not imagine if you required assistance for a wedding, a special event or if you run into an issue - good luck! 5) HIDDEN COSTS - Regardless of what their website states, or whether you are booking All-Inclusive, or not, KNOW that no matter who you booked through, or what they told you, or what the circumstances, there WILL BE an additional daily amount you will be expected to pay when you arrive. *Per Person, per day extra fees as follows; $35 USD resort fee + $15 USD "service" fee, plus as of this point in time (Feb 2026), a $2 USD per day environmental fee. For a couple, that totals an extra $104 USD per day to the price you expected to pay. $730 USD Extra per week, 13000 Mexican Pesos, 650 Euro, 550 British Pounds, over $1000 Canadian ... EXTRA on top of the premium already paid for your "all inclusive". It is how SNEAKY the approach to this is that annoyed us most. Just include it in your quoted price! And seriously, this resort has got to start to fix stuff that is ripped, broken, dilapidated, dirty. Unacceptable. I wish I had read the negative reviews more carefully prior to booking and especially should have reviewed the photos of how broken down this place is more closely. Way better options to consider for the cost and offerings.
