Thompson Playa del Carmen Main House

We spent a long weekend at the resort. The resort is lovely as are all of the people who work there. Soraya, the desk agent, was wonderful at check-in and gave us helpful tips on local places to go. Angel, Joel and Yaz in the pool and restaurant area were attentive, friendly and the food is delicious! The resort is on the beach and has different types of seating for sun and shade. The pool is very small and more of a lap pool. The rooms are gorgeous and bottled water is supplied every day. We all had balconies that look out on the golf and over the resort pool and cabana area. The resort is only a block from 5th Avenue which is the main restaurant and shopping street and about a 5 minute walk from the sister Hyatt Centric site. The sister site has a nicer pool area but is not on the beach. If you have anyone in your party who is handicapped this property is challenging as at peak times of the day the street is blocked off and vans/taxis cannot get down to the door. We did rent scooters for two of our party and they have a ramp with access to the street but you do have to walk up hill 2 blocks to get to transportation. They are short blocks but still challenging for those with mobility issues. The wedding included a welcome party on the roof of the sister site which was fantastic. Great food and drinks and a beautiful view of the Gulf. The rooms at the sister site are very similar so if you want to save money stay there. You still have access to the beach at this site.

Fabian Hernandez our housekeeper was amazing, place was clean, right in the middle of everything, a party town. Loved the sunrise in the mornings l, so I recommend a room facing the ocean.

Overall it is a very good hotel. I was glad that we did not get a room facing 5th Ave. Those rooms had to be very noisy. The noisy part is not all the hotels fault just a problem with 5th ave. Again Francesco at the roof top bar was wonderful.

Beautiful property and staff especially Soraya at the front desk -the town is safe -many great restaurants and trip to Tulum was a nice experience. Thank you Soraya again for accommodating our special request! Truly a great face for Hyatt.

Stayed at the Hyatt Centric Beach House for 5 nights. For those unfamiliar with this hotel in Playa, there are 2 locations: one called the Downtown House with a large impressive curved roof deck pool and the Beach House located about a 5 min walk away at beach front (direct beach access), lounge chairs facing the beach and a smaller pool. I have been to Playa twice previously and I enjoyed the stay at the Beach House more than the other 2 trips. The Beach House hotel is quiet and low key inside. It is at the bottom of 8th st at the beach and therefore the noise from 5th Ave is present but not overwhelming. My understanding is that the hotel was previously branded a Thompson on inception and both locations have very good interior design. Note: The Beach House doesn’t have a gym. The gym at the Downtown location is also small and minimally furnished with equipment but they do offer rooftop exercise and cycling classes. (I did the strength class it was very good). The staff are very friendly at both locations and in particular Soraya, the front desk agent at Beach House, was a pleasure. She always had a welcoming smile 😊 and gave us good restaurant tips.
