When we first arrived at the Sentinel, we were met by Melanie, and she truly set the tone for our entire stay and trip. You can train people how to do a job, but you can't train someone to be genuinely kind and helpful. The hotel is incredibly lucky to have her. The hotel itself has a beautiful, vintage vibe that feels authentic, not like a cheap imitation. Our room, 6024, was spacious, quiet, and spotless. I would suggest checking the windows in that room, as they don’t shut all the way and could lead to some energy inefficiency. We also loved the small touches, like the candy in the amenity room on the 6th floor—a minimal cost for the business that leaves a great impression. The hotel is very neat, and there is a lot of "eye candy" in respect to atmosphere. While the hotel service and atmosphere were exceptional, I would not recommend the attached wine bar. The staff there clearly have a lot of knowledge about wine, but the service needs a lot of work. We had issues getting the items we ordered and found an item on our bill that we hadn't received.

Centrally located, very pleasant and efficient staff. Clean and comfy rooms though they could use a refresh. Only complaint is that I couldn’t enjoy the terrace as much as I wanted because of a very loud fan or condenser that ran below the terrace periodically.

The hotel was okay but became violently ill after a breakfast of Dungeness Crab Eggs Benedict at Jake’s Grill which made it an unpleasant experience.

The Sentinel is always so lovely when visiting Portland. It is charming, cozy, and welcoming. I love the convenience of being located near many great restaurants, shopping and easy access to the freeway when touring the area or heading home. For me , it’s the perfect place.
