Reviews for InterContinental Porto-Palacio das Cardosas

Porto a lovely historic city

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

I stayed at Intercontinental Hotel from March 30-April 2 with my mother. We arrived quite late on the 30th but the transportation I had asked for was at the airport and we had a smooth journey to the hotel. The room was quite spacious and the bathroom with a bathtub and a separate shower booth. The drain was a bit slow for the bathtub. Handrails could be added in the bathtub as well as in the shower for the elders. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was provided in the dining area. The variation was not many (I wanted yoghurts but there were none )but coffees were offered in large mug cups. Mini egg tarts were there to try but not many Portuguese dishes. The concierge was very efficient very professional. My flight to Lisbon was suddenly cancelled and when I sought help, the concierge had tried to get in touch with the airline and advised me for other option in case the flight was cancelled totally. He also contacted the hotel in Lisbon for the change. Fortunately the flight was changed to an earlier one. Having an efficient concierge made a difference making me a feel less anxious. Porto was a lovely city and the people were kind. The location of the hotel was convenient to move around, the train station was only a few minutes walk.

not a good experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Not a good experience. First of all, we had emailed the hotel in advance of our stay to request that the twin beds in one of our rooms was separated by a nightstand. When we arrived, this was not the case - the beds were pushed together. We decided not to complain about this and pulled the beds apart ourselves. Next, we were not told at check-in that the hotel’s backend system would automatically and continuously add charges on top of the room deposit to cover the day tours we had booked through the hotel. This resulted in a series of 6 or more pending charges on my mom’s credit card, which obviously freaked her out and made her think it was fraud or a mistake. Then, housekeeping mistakenly logged a charge for the mini bar, which we did not actually consume anything from. When we went downstairs to the reception to complain about the ridiculous number of pending charges and mistaken mini bar charge, the woman we spoke to had a very poor, condescending attitude. Because the hotel’s location is good and most foreigners stay here, it feels like their reputation has inflated to their ego, and some of their staff don’t feel the need to treat customers with care or respect. My mom eventually spoke to another guy in reception named Lorenzo who was fantastic and compensated us with free breakfast for the confusion.

First timer

Front desk check in very good- almost no wait time after arriving in the early morning. Room is clean, spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was not my favorite- ok selection, but nothing notable to remy. Servers, bell people and front desk all were very well trained— Bill morgan
