The charming village of Portovenere, which sits on the point connecting the renowned Cinque Terre and the inspiring Gulf of the Poets, is the perfect place to experience the serenity of Southern Liguria. The village has been noteworthy since Roman times as it has provided protection for the gulf and acted as a safe harbor to those sailing the Mediterranean A Franciscan monastery in the XVI century, Grand Hotel Portovenere is located on the most panoramic point of Portovenere, directly overlooking the sea and the island of Palmaria.

We had an amazing 4 nights at this hotel! The staff was exceptional. Sergio assisted me prior to my arrival and during my stay. He understood my requests and clearly communicated with me. The housekkeping staff were so nice and attentive too. I believe laura and daniela kept our room exceptional! They serviced our room 2x a day! On our last evening we had spa services with Lucrezita. She gave us a great massage and body scrub. It is not widely told but you may use the sensory shower, steam and sauna for free! Christine was very friendly and explained all of the services prior to receiving the treatments. She communicated in English very well! The food was terrific.we loved the complimentary breakfast selection. A wode variety of fresh fruits and nuts breads and a variety of egg dishes can be ordered. For a fee you may have other items such as french toast pancakes etc. martina, Valeria and Natalina were attentive and made the experience wonderful. If you are leaving early as we sid, don’t forget to ask for the breakfast box.

I firmly believe that when a company invests in its employees, it shows and it pays off. Grand Hotel Portovenere is the perfect example of that philosophy. From the moment we arrived, every member of the staff made us feel genuinely welcome. The front desk team, bellmen, bartenders, and servers were all warm, helpful, and incredibly accommodating. Even before our trip, the staff went above and beyond, promptly answering emails, helping us arrange restaurant reservations, and coordinating car services to make our stay effortless. The location simply can’t be beat. Once you stay here, you’ll understand why. While exploring the beautiful villages of Cinque Terre is a must, our family actually found ourselves falling in love with Portovenere. It was the perfect home base and quickly became our favorite destination. The beds were exceptionally comfortable, the amenities were wonderful, and the views were absolutely breathtaking. But what truly makes this hotel a gem is its people. Their genuine hospitality turned a beautiful stay into an unforgettable experience. We can’t wait to return. If you’d like, I can also make it a little shorter and more impactful for a 5-star Google review.

A Truly Unforgettable Stay – We Felt Like Family! This hotel is incredibly special, but not just because of its luxury label. What made our trip so unforgettable was the amazing team of people who work there From the second we arrived until the day we left, we were treated with so much genuine warmth and kindness that we instantly felt right at home. The front desk gave us the loveliest welcome, the manager came over to say a personal hello, and walking into our room to find a sweet welcome gift and fresh flowers was such a beautiful touch. It’s those thoughtful little gestures that you really remember. The Location I'm pretty sure this is the only luxury hotel in Portovenere, and the location is absolutely perfect. You’re right in the heart of everything, right next to the ferry terminal and boat rentals, which made exploring the area so incredibly easy. They also have free parking, a bar, and a lovely waterfront restaurant with front-row views of the harbor and the prettiest parts of town. On the weekends, they have live music playing, which gives the whole place such a wonderful, relaxing vibe. The food is very fresh and really delicious! Pasta Carbonara was just the best, as well as the beef and fish dishes. The Room To give future guests an honest picture: the rooms and decor did surprise us a bit. Given the price, we were expecting something a little more luxurious and modern, but the design throughout the hotel is quite simple and feels a bit dated. Our room wasn’t super spacious, and the AC was a bit tricky—the staff tried so hard to fix it for us, but it was still tough to get the temperature right. Also, a funny little detail: they provide great Dyson hair dryers but didn't have any clothes steamers available. However, the terrace completely made up for it. Our view looked out over the entire picturesque town, and it was absolutely breathtaking. Sitting out there and taking in that unforgettable view was easily one of the absolute highlights of our vacation. The Service - 5 Stars Plus! This is where the hotel truly shines! The incredible hospitality totally overshadowed any little issues with the room. By the end of our stay, we genuinely felt like part of the family. A massive thank you to the restaurant crew—Sabrina, Brian, Anna, and Natalina and others—for taking such wonderful care of us. And a special shout-out to the restaurant manager (I’m sorry I didn't get his name!) who surprised us with a bottle of champagne before we checked out. Everyone at the front desk and the hotel manager were also fantastic, constantly checking in on us to make sure we were having a great time. This kind of genuine hospitality is so rare these days, it made our stay so special. Final Thoughts If I were only rating the hotel against the price tag, it would probably be a 4-star review. But a hotel is so much more than its furniture. The warmth, kindness, and care shown by every single staff member turned our stay into something truly unforgettable. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Portovenere. We absolutely loved our time there and can't wait to come back. Thank you so much to the whole Grand Hotel team for making us feel so incredibly welcome!

We stayed in room 301, we had the best view of the water from both sides of our room, the staff at check in could not have been better and very helpful during our stay with tickets for boat rides or just getting towels for our dip in the water. The Resturant was also amazing with the help of Sabrina picking us the best wines for our meals. We ate every meal at this hotel. The servers Lorenzo, Mattas and Brian did a great job. Giovanni in the bar was meticulous about how he made our drinks, remembering my drink was a tiny bit different the day before.

The hotel is gorgeous! Beautiful location right on the water, next to the ferry and walking distance to restaurants. The breakfast buffet was amazing and we enjoyed the cocktail hour. We loved taking the ferry to Cinque Terre, but also loved leaving the crowds of Cinque Terre and coming back to the beautiful village of Portovenere. The staff was extremely helpful and provided a lot of great information.
