A Great Way to Kick Off Our Trip to the Czech Republic

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

I initially came upon the Alchymist in my Fodor's Travel Guide and was amused by its description as "a baroque fever dream." It also came recommended by Forbes, Travel + Leisure, and The Telegraph. It checked a lot of boxes for our family of 2 adults and 2 teen children on our recent trip to Prague in terms of location, vibe, and cost and we stayed here for 4 nights to begin our 10-day trip in the Czech Republic. We would definitely recommend and are glad that we stayed here. PROS: -It is, indeed, a baroque fever dream housed in four former 16th century bourgeois homes with 27 rooms and 19 suites and felt really unique -The location was fantastic--it was in tucked away on a quiet street in Mala Strana directly across from the American Embassy, but was centrally located within a 20-minute walk from most of Prague's major sites. -The Family Suite, consisting of 2 rooms and 2 BA was competitively priced and a more attractive cost option for us than 2 rooms or suites at other hotels for 4 of us. Our room rate also included a buffet breakfast -Daily afternoon wine and cheese served for guests in the lobby -Fitness center, indoor swimming pool, and spa -Great views from our room and lovely courtyard restaurant/bar area -They delivered water, wine, and a fruit plate to our room and greeted us with drinks of our choice upon our arrival CONS: -The decor and vibe will not be very everyone and in some spots, could have used a bit of a refresh -While we were happy to have a buffet breakfast included, it was good, not great and was the exact same every day and had limited options -The 2-floor Family Suite was a bit cramped in the downstairs area

Exquisite beautiful Hotel

What a beautiful romantic hotel, staff were lovely and the hotel itself is just full of splendour and character. Bedrooms are also full of detail and character with a very comfortable bed, chocolate in the evening and in the afternoon a wine and cheese happy hour. The hotel is also perfectly placed for the old town its bars and restaurants and the castle is just a short walk up the hill. its also sat right next to the American embassy which has its own unique Police presence not that Prague is an unsafe city i would say its one of the safest

Hidden gem

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

We had been to Prague several times, staying in the Old Town. I found this hotel on line and loved the style and we weren’t disappointed. Absolutely fantastic in every way. Breakfast was excellent. A nice extra touch was the opportunity for a free glass of wine late afternoon. Prague is a small city so all tourist hotspots are within walking distance. The hotel has a restaurant which has an Italian / Czech menu. Not a vast choice but it was a good restaurant with friendly staff.

Beautiful hotel

On arrival it felt a grand hotel, staff were so attentive and polite. We had room 102 and 219, both were stunning and had all amenities. The spa was relaxing and peaceful. Breakfast was delicious and plenty of choice. Would absolutely have no hesitation to recommend this hotel, walking distance for sightseeing and a beautiful, peaceful setting.

Beautiful hotel but.......

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

Positives... Stunning hotel Negatives... Junior suite with terrace... premium rate. I know you can't move the building but maybe drop the price a little for a terrace without sun. Some staff rude.. not all attentive Swimming pool cold for a spa I would expect a hotel of this standard to have a warm pool possibly with jets that work. Excessive rate for early late check in/out Paid premium price for this hotel to be disappointed Charged for mini bar items that we didn't use.. thus was amended but they still tried to rob us more!! A luxury hotel without any little extras and happiness thrown in

On arrival at the Prague airport we were greeted by a driver from the hotel and whisked off to the hotel - this was a great stress-free way to arrive. We were shown around the hotel, a rather baroque Central European fantasy. Our room was a Junior Suite, which consisted of a large bedroom and living area with original wooden beams, glass chandelier and gorgeous king-size bed, as well as a lovely marble bathroom. Both of us were treated to exquisite body massages and afterwards, we relaxed in the spa with its pool, sauna and steam room. We had a voucher towards dinner in the hotel's Aquarius Restaurant. We opted for a wonderful 7-course tasting menu, a nice little bit of everything! The service and staff were exemplary. In fact, the staff were the most efficient and polite I've found in a hotel in a VERY long time. The hotel itself is in a great location - just enough away from the main tourist drag to be quiet, but is still easy enough to walk to all the main points of interest.

Service, luxurious and magnificent surrounding and accommodations are very important. My wife and I set off on an eight country European summer adventure and were overwhelmed by the Alchymist staff and hotel accommodations. Our suite was magnificent and the staff was superb. The crowning achievement however was the dinner in one of the most magnificent settings I have seen. The Alchymist Grand Hotel & Spa's Aquarius restaurant is worth the trip to Prague alone. No wonder this hidden jewel is a favorite of celebrities! Well deserved and bravo again to the staff.
