Not 5*

Lovely hotel but rooms tired. Air conditioning didn’t work, cracked sink, bedside lamps don’t work heard some other visitors moaning about the rooms too. Our rooms fronted onto the road so was quite noisy with the trams. Staff were friendly but disorganised 😬. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice and good selection of drinks.

Historic Grandeur, Exceptional Service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Our stay at NH Collection Carlo IV was nothing short of exceptional — a hotel that effortlessly combines historic grandeur with refined modern luxury. From the moment you arrive, the architecture makes a striking impression. The building’s heritage has been beautifully preserved, with original features such as the elegant sash windows and traditional counters in the restaurant adding depth, character, and a true sense of place. The vaulted bar is, quite simply, extraordinary. Sensitively restored and reimagined, it offers a dramatic yet intimate setting that feels both sophisticated and unique — a standout feature that perfectly captures the hotel’s charm. We stayed in a historic courtyard-facing room, which was superb. Peaceful, elegant, and immaculately presented, it provided a calm and luxurious retreat from the city. What truly sets this hotel apart is the level of service. Every member of staff we encountered was gracious, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, delivering hospitality of the highest standard. An outstanding five-star experience in every respect — we would return in a heartbeat.

A few great things but overall underwhelming

The good: a world class breakfast buffet; gorgeous lobby; convenient location; smells really good. The bad: In addition to being SO tiny, the rooms haven’t been updated in decades and are incredibly worn. My room had worn and badly stained carpet throughout, painted-on borders in bathroom cracked and peeling off, baseboards literally falling off the wall, badly chipped and scratched up furniture, and no streaming options (or a single English TV channel except BBC News) on an ancient TV. Also, “courtyard view” means that at 6” tall, standing on tiptoes, I had a view of the top floor windows on the opposite side rooms; tiny dormer windows only, so there is NO view. It’s loud. Think thin walls but also proximity to the train line means slightly shaking walls and the sound of motion every time the (many, many) trains pass by. I was on the top floor in an end unit and found the sound and slight shaking very annoying. Room service options are very limited and no one discloses the 250 CZK (~$12 USD) fee for delivery, and then they ask for an additional tip. This translated into a $38 egg sandwich with fries. Breakfast is amazing and well worth $25 a person, just make sure you can go before you prepay for it when you book. My flights changed, making my one breakfast $53 instead. The spa is terrible. Truly. First, you pay 50% deposit to book and they ask you for a tip at that time- before your treatment. If you go in the early evening, like I did, they ask you to prepay the other 50% and tip before your treatment (to run the nightly reports early). I booked the most expensive and extensive package- a 90 min massage, full body scrub, and a 60 min facial. What they don’t say is that there is lots of transition time, for therapist prep and shower, and the time comes out of your treatment time. The body scrub was fine but either it or the massage oil made me break out all over my body and caused weird dry patches on my shoulders. The massage was purely ineffectual; I told the therapist explicitly that I need very strong pressure but got nothing of the sort. The facial, however, was the worst. I expressly requested the hydra facial for dry skin and fine lines. The therapist nodded and asked if I also wanted deep cleaning (extractions), which I said was fine. What followed was ZERO hydration treatments noted in the hydra facial description, a total of 5 extractions without steam, and a slow slathering of something very sticky and gross. Broke out everywhere!

Superb Hotel in a Central Location

For a first visit to Prague we could not have picked a better hotel. The location is ideal for exploring the city. The staff are delightful, breakfasts excellent and everything about the room (upgraded to a suite) spot on.

Wonderful hotel

The hotel staff was courteous, helpful, friendly and efficient. The breakfast buffet was incredible. The room was very clean and comfortable. Free wi-fi was a real plus. My only suggestion would be to replace the room carpeting with laminate or tile. The location is ideal for access to trams, restaurants, and sightseeing spots.
