First things first...if you book this hotel, do a little research on navigating Prague's streets beforehand. Prague is known for it's numerous streets connected by small alleyways. The hotel has a front and rear entrance, and Google maps gets a bit confused by both. When you do find it, it is very close to the old town square...a perfect location in a nice part of the city. The hotel itself is a beautiful old building, and the decor is uniquely gorgeous. It was also spotlessly clean. We booked on a bed and breakfast basis, and the breakfasts were also great...nice and fresh with a good variety. Now...the unfortunate downsides. If you are considering one of the junior suites, AVOID room no. 101. It is beautiful and well equipped. But it is also really close to the kitchen and restaurant. We were woken by staff from about 6am, and also by late checkout guests talking loudly in the restaurant. In fairness the reception staff dealt with the latter promptly, but the hotel should probably ask guests to move into more suitable areas of the restaurant (behind doors) once it gets late. Then there's the water. We only stayed for 4 nights, on on two occasions our suite was without hot water...not exactly suite levels of luxury. My advice would be to shower at 'off peak' times. Then there's the staff; not unpleasant or rude, but not particularly friendly either. When I asked about a room change because of the noise, they looked into it, but were pretty disinterested. Finally...SERVICE CHARGE. This gets added onto your bill alongside city tax. Personally I wasn't willing to pay this so I asked for it to be removed. If I want cold showers and disturbed sleep, I can get these in a youth hostel for a lot cheaper than a hotel suite. Overall it was still a lovely stay in a nice location, but a bit of thought needs to be given to having a room/suite so close to the busiest part of the hotel. With a bit of ingenuity, they could add an extra door; this would create a mini verandah for room 101, and also reduce the noise. Just a thought. But Prague...wow. Amazing place.

The hotel’s main strength is its location, and there were some positives: our room was fine, the air conditioning worked well, housekeeping was very good, and service in most parts of the hotel was acceptable. However, our overall impression was badly affected by the front desk, which we found inattentive, indifferent, and careless. The most serious issue was our airport taxi. We had booked a taxi through the front desk and even confirmed the time again with the person at checkout. We then sat waiting in the lobby. At the scheduled time, no taxi had arrived, and the front desk staff said nothing to us. We finally asked the security person, who checked and told us the taxi had been booked for a different time. He had to arrange another taxi, which took about 15 more minutes. The front desk staff member did not apologize or seem concerned. The whole process had been handled far too casually, with no attention to detail, especially given that this was transportation to the airport. There were other examples of sloppy service. At check-in, we were supposed to receive a complimentary drink coupon, but the staff member forgot to give it to us. When we later asked another front desk clerk about it, he was rude and dismissive, and seemed to make fun of us for asking. A friend staying at the same hotel had requested a wake-up call on the morning of checkout, and that was also forgotten. These are basic hotel services, and the repeated mistakes gave the impression of poor training and poor supervision at the front desk. The restaurant experience was mixed. Breakfast was okay, but quite basic for the price paid, and the coffee was weak. On one occasion, my partner moved a chair in the restaurant and was rudely told that chairs could not be moved. That interaction also felt unnecessary and poorly handled. We had asked for a quiet room and were told the room was quiet, but we were placed on the first floor and experienced street noise. Again, this felt like another example of the front desk not really listening or paying attention. Overall, the hotel has a good location and some positives, especially housekeeping, but the front desk service was disappointing and careless. For the price, I expected more professionalism, better attention to detail, and at least basic courtesy when mistakes were made.

What a beautiful hotel. Its location is perfect if you want to be in old town just off the square. Its entrance is inconspicuous and the people friendly. After check in you are taken to your room and the hotel is so large you would never find your way without a guide. The room was gorgeous with period furniture and a huge bathroom which had a bathtub and shower with great water pressure. The bed was amazing. The breakfast was a little disappointing. If you prepay for breakfast with your room you are ushered through the main dining area, through the kitchen, down to a little cramped room which probably held no more than 30 people at a push. The selection was very limited with pre cooked fried eggs that were hard. You had to squeeze by people to get to anything. The room gave you the feeling of being staff having breakfast in the basement. This was the only down side. The hotel is convenient,to old town, the square and the Bigbus stop.

We stayed at the Iron Gate Hotel & Suites for 4 nights recently for what was our first trip to Prague. The hotel is right on the doorstep of the Old Town Square, literally a 30 second walk through the 'Art Passage' and you are then in the square so the location is excellent. We did have a bit of a problem finding the hotel after we were dropped off from the airport but once we go there. check in was efficient and friendly enough. The hotel foyer and reception area was very clean and pleasant and we were allocated room 1 which was on the ground floor so just a few steps outside of the reception. This was a 'superior' room which was more than ample in size and well furnished with a huge four poster bed. Although the decor wouldn't normally be my first choice when booking a hotel as I tend to go for the more modern look, I was actually really impressed . The room was spotless and had ample space for storage, with drawers and a large wardrobe which had a safe inside along with a couple of bathrobes and slippers if required (plus an umbrella). There were two chairs in the room, a mini bar (which we didn't use), a large screen tv and tea/coffee making facilities although no milk was supplied in the room although I did learn that this is actually quite standard in the Czech Republic but I'm sure had I requested some it wouldn't have been a problem. The bathroom again was quite large although I don't think there was an extractor fan in there so it did get a bit steamy when having a bath/shower at times but it again was well equipped. The room was cleaned daily and towels changed if you wanted them to be. There was no window in the room which maybe a problem for some, the only natural light was from the stained glass door/window but there wasn't a window which you could look out of which wasn't an issue for us but something to bear in mind. Other rooms on higher floors did have windows so it maybe just the ground floor rooms that don't. Being on the ground floor. we did notice at times other guests/staff walking past and suitcases being pulled along the cobbled ground which did make a noise at times but nothing which impacted our stay. So all in all no complaints with the room and facilities. Breakfast was included with our room rate and this consisted of a buffet style with both hot foods and cereals, pretty standard selection but again more than enough for us. You could also order additional options such as eggs benedict from the menu but these would have cost extra so we just stuck with the free option. The hotels restaurant is called 'The Deer' restaurant and its obvious when you go in why this is and we ate in there once. the atmosphere and ambiance was really relaxed with the piano being played which was a nice touch. The food was really good and very well presented so for 2 main courses, 2 desserts and 4 drinks, we paid £73 which was actually cheaper than when we had eaten in the square the previous night which I was surprised at considering its a 5 star hotel so that was good. Service again very good throughout. Check out was efficient, I was aware that we would have the city tax to pay when we checked out as that was outlined when we booked, I wasn't aware that a service charge was also added although I had actually read a review in which someone had mentioned about the service charge but what I would say in relation to that is e were told that this was not mandatory and could be removed if we wanted so this isn't something that you have to pay and it was certainly explained to us which I appreciated rather than it just being added without any explanation. Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel for its quality and location if you want to be somewhere near the Old Town. I've no complaints about our stay and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again if we went back to Prague in future.
