Great location and breakfast, but definitely not a 5-star experience
We traveled as three people (2 adults and 1 teenager) and had booked a DELUXE SUITE with expectations of a luxurious stay, based on the hotel's 5-star status and the photos on their website. Unfortunately, the stay did not live up to the price or the 5 stars at any point. Room and Space: The photos on the website did not match reality at all. Our "Deluxe Suite" consisted of one large bedroom and a large entryway with just a single wardrobe for three people's clothing — completely inadequate. The floor in the bedroom was heavily damaged, and various liquids were splashed up on the walls in several places. The extra bed for the teenager creaked so violently that it kept us awake every time someone turned around, and the pillows in the master bed smelled distinctly bad. Bathroom and Maintenance: Although there was a spa/shower, it functioned terribly in practice: the shower hose could not be hung up and was too short for anyone over 170 cm to take a shower. There was no counter space for toiletries, and the hair dryer did not work. Additionally, the room showed signs of water damage with water stains on the ceiling. To top it all off, one of us got locked inside the bathroom because the door handle was loose and had to be turned more than a quarter turn to open (this was repaired the following day). The room generally bore the marks of heavy wear and tear and a lack of maintenance. Service and Housekeeping: The cleaning staff were extremely pushy and tried to enter before you were even out of the room — and housekeeping started so early that the room was often cleaned while you were eating breakfast. The Positives: On the other hand, the breakfast was really nice. It tasted excellent, and nothing was missing from the buffet — if you leave there hungry, you are picky. However, you have to be careful not to rest your arms on the tables, as the tabletop risks tipping over! As other reviews mention, they automatically add "recommended tips" to the bill, though you are free to decline this. If the hotel, being 5-star rated, had lived up to our expectations of a 5-star hotel, we would have paid the tip without blinking, but here there was a long way from price to quality. Conclusion: A historic hotel with a fantastic location, but the standard and maintenance are at a level where calling itself 5-star is entirely undeserved.

Beautiful hotel, amazing daily housekeeping, rest of staff indifferent
You cannot fault the look and presentation of this hotel. The daily housekeeping service is also exceptional. We weren’t asked if we had a nice stay upon checking out but they added a 200 czk daily charge (about £7 per day) to the city tax bill. We would normally happily pay had we received a great service but a lot of the staff looked miserable throughout our stay and didn’t engage at all. No milk in hotel room for hot drinks and when asked in the evening if we could have some we were told loudly and sternly, sir the restaurant is closed. Lots of staff stood around at the buffet breakfast time but none helping you bring your breakfast or drinks up from the cellar where it is all laid out. Even if staff just took your drink order annd brought these to your table for you and the rest of the breakfast was self service this would help. Instead you found yourself going downstairs 4 or 5 times bringing everything up piecemeal to your table. I would definitely visit Prague again but we wouldn’t stay in this hotel. The location is great but be aware it gets noisy on the street outside til late. The walls are thin in the hotel and you can also hear staff from 630am onwards banging about preparing the hotel. 5 star presentation wise, service wise 2 or 3 star.

Excellent Hotel and Location — But Watch for Undisclosed Service Fees
Excellent location and hotel, but an awkward issue with undisclosed service fees We had a very pleasant stay at the Iron Gate Hotel & Suites. The location is excellent—right in the heart of Prague, making it very easy to walk to the main sights, restaurants, and attractions. Our room was excellent: comfortable, spacious, and well maintained. The breakfast was also very good, with a nice selection and good quality. The only negative experience was at checkout. A service fee was added to our bill that had not been disclosed to us beforehand. We had to point this out and ask for it to be removed. The hotel did remove the charge, which we appreciated, but it was awkward that guests have to notice and challenge a fee that was not clearly disclosed. Overall, we enjoyed the hotel and would recommend it, but I hope management will make all charges completely transparent to guests in the future. That would make an otherwise excellent experience even better.

One of the best hotels in old town Prague
This is one of the best hotels in Prague!! Location is amazing about a 2 minute walk to the astronomical clock. Service is superb and efficient . Staff are very friendly and helpful. This is my second time staying at the hotel and it definitely didn’t disappoint. We stayed at the Goliath suite and it is definitely worth every penny.

Location is excellent - it’s dead in the centre so great for sightseeing, shops, restaurants and clubs. Gorgeous hotel and restaurant. Free breakfast included in the price. The breakfast was really exceptional. Clean and expensive looking rooms. They had everything except an iron and ironing board and when we asked for one, the staff delivered it immediately! The service was better than exceptional! All the staff from reception, restaurant to the cleaning staff treated us with respect and courtesy. The Deer restaurant was very well managed and food of excellent quality and very delicious. We loved our week’s stay. I forgot to mention our first room was not suitable for us and when I complained they lovely receptionist quickly told me that he would get this sorted out for me in the morning and he was true to his word. The next morning they had moved us, without fuss and upgraded us. This is the way to treat paying guest. UK hotels need to take note. Unfortunately hotels in the UK are very badly managed and run. They need to take a leaf out of this hotel’s book and train staff like in this hotel. I would give them 6 stars out of 5. Well done guys. When I come back to Prague, I’ll definitely book back with you.
