The Iron Gate is in a great location – we walked to almost everything, lots of places to eat nearby. Good friendly service. The restaurant is good – excellent breakfasts and we had dinner there one night which was good as well. It is an old building and quite quirky and interesting. It is wrapped around three sides of an area where the restaurant is now, we guess it was originally a courtyard for the building. There is carved wood everywhere and oil paintings and animal heads on the public walls. It is very atmospheric! Our room was a little odd. It had 2 windows but when we investigated they didn’t open to the outside but rather to an internal corridor to other rooms. The room was a decent size but rather overstuffed with large, heavy furniture. It had a corner out of it so the bed was in a tight spot. With 2 singles it would have had a space down the middle but to make a double bed (in common European fashion of just pushing 2 singles together) on one side it was hard against the wall so you had to climb out at the end. Housekeeping were very particular, and hilariously, would rearrange our suitcases and other stuff we left out so everything was placed on the diagonal. A large comfortable bathroom and good lighting – 2 common failure points in hotels. We heard another couple complaining at the front desk one morning that the ceiling in their room was sloped so they had to bend over to move around. We had noted in TripAdvisor that there are some Attic rooms with this issue, so worth ensuring these are avoided! In summary it was a good place to stay, and we would stay there again, but as the rooms are obviously a bit varied if you are booking it would be worth stipulating some requirements. Also worth noting that taxis are not supposed to drive to the front door but some ignore the signs and do. If your car does obey the signs it is about a 200m walk.

I feel this is a very good 4* in my opinion. Great hotel, period features, beautifully decorated. Very friendly staff. Beautiful room. Ideal location 30 second walk to old town square. Accessible by so many side streets. Few tips to make it that extra 5* in my opinion. Water should be free in room, biscuits too. Milk should be given with basic tea and coffee. This was delivered when requested at reception. Air con poor - even in October our room felt very toasty. The buffet breakfast had something for everyone. Was busy after 9. A cooked breakfast chosen from a menu would have been 5* instead of hot buffet choices. We would certainly stay again when in Prague.

Lovely hotel and friendly staff. Breakfast was amazing lots if choice. Can hear the noise a bit from outside but not too bad.( it is very central so to be expected). Would stay again and recommend

I have no other words to describe this hotel as simply beautiful. It is in a very old building that has been meticulously maintained. We stayed in a large, very clean, comfortable and quiet suite on the 4th floor. The staff is attentive, helpful and professional. The hotel location is perfect, close to the heart of Old Town, close to New Town and the Prague subway. Request the breakfast buffet. You will not be disappointed.
