A Place We Keep Coming Back To

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This was our third (or fourth) stay at the beautiful Château Saint-Martin & Spa. In fact, we’ve been coming here for years — initially to dine at their wonderful restaurant while renting a nearby house when our children were younger. Now that the kids are grown and out of the house, we can finally treat ourselves to staying at the hotel, not just dining there. The property is truly stunning. The service is excellent — professional but not overly formal — and the view over Vence and the coastline is simply breathtaking. This year, we arrived at the end of July and noticed it was slightly busier than usual. We had just come from a quiet retreat in the Tuscan hills, a place with only 15 rooms and no children allowed, so arriving to a livelier atmosphere — with more families and little ones around — was a bit of a shift. The pool area was a bit noisier and more active, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It just took a moment to adjust after 10 days of near silence. Let’s be honest: people-watching and a bit of gossip are all part of the fun when staying somewhere like this. We’ll definitely be back — again, and again, and again…

No place quite like it on Côte d’Azur!

Another wonderful stay at Chateau Saint Martin. From the moment you arrive the staff always make you feel truly welcome. The hotel and grounds are looking even better this year - wonderfully peaceful, with a charm that makes it feel like a home away from home. . If you’re looking for a place where hospitality and tranquility meet, Château Saint-Martin in Vence is highly recommended. There’s not place quite like it on Côte d’Azur. We will be back next year I’m sure!

Gorgeous grounds but left a lot to be desired!

Upon arriving high up in the hills to this beautiful Chateau, we could see the beauty and perfectly manicured grounds. It's spectacular. The concierge came to us and chatted. He was quite lovely, and he told us that housekeeping was already in our room, and the room should be ready before normal check-in at 3. We arrived at 11 AM. They showed us around a bit and then showed us to the pool to hang out while we waited for our room. The pool was fairly empty and would have been relaxing if it wasn't for this young woman who was speaking very loudly on the phone, very rude. I did hear one of the young male employees at the pool bar laughing with a colleague, saying, "Stupid American". I don't know who he was speaking about (maybe us?), but it was clear as day and quite shocking to say the least. There is a Spanish-speaking woman at the pool who was lovely, and the next day, some of the different young men were kind. The pool was just ok, a lot of kids (not an adult-only hotel, so not anyone's fault), but I do think they should keep young children out of the hot tub. We rather relax in our own pool. We had lunch in the garden; it looked beautiful, but there were so many bugs, and the wait staff at the Garden are all quite young and seem to have no idea what they are doing. No one comes to check on you, absolutely not 5 star service, not even 3-star. I understand the season just started but they need a lot of work! By this point, it was 2:00, so we assumed, since housekeeping was in there at 11 (as the man who checked us in said), our room should be ready. He told us it wasn't, just sit somewhere. We sat outside for a bit, then went back at 3:00. The room is still not ready. I had asked if it takes 4 hours to clean our room. (he was lying about that when we checked in) He said he would send us a bottle of wine to our room, so we waited and then finally at 3:15, we were led to our room. It was beautiful with a beautiful view and a small balcony for 2 chairs and a table. The spa was nice, everyone was lovely there, we had foot reflexology, and massages. My husband loved his massage so much, he wanted to take the massage therapist home. HA! We decided to have a casual dinner at the bar. We sat outside of the restaurant on the side and ordered drinks and some little bites. The waitress out there has NO personality and is not very pleasant. There was no music, and it was a bit boring. We should have gone to town. The breakfast was great! They had a lot to offer, the pastries and croissants were decadent. Great service for the first morning. The second morning, we had to leave early, so we went for breakfast at 7:15 (they open at 7). No one is there but 2 chefs preparing to make eggs. We walk in, nothing, (they saw us come in), we sit and wait, nothing. Finally, my husband goes inside to tell the chefs who were ignoring us to please get someone to serve us; they looked very bothered. My husband ordered eggs, and they didn't see me behind him about to order (we had to order right from the chefs) because no one was checking on us. The chef was clearly laughing at my husband, and then saw me there, and looked guilty. Second time this happened at this supposedly 5-star chateau, unacceptable!!! As beautiful as the grounds are, we wouldn't go back there. Most of the staff are rude, unqualified and rarely smile. The man who was so kind to us, checking us in and showing us around, walked passed us and didn't even smile when we passed him in the hall. We did love housekeeping, both women we saw were very kind and lovely, maybe they can teach the staff a few things!

Perfect escapade

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 10 months ago

Absolutely stunning. The staff were incredibly attentive and helpful. The views are breathtaking. The dinner was a beautiful experience. The spa is a highlight. The whole setting between the building, art and nature makes it a perfect escapade. Overall, a cure for the body and soul.

Magical Stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 11 months ago

I stayed here to celebrate my birthday, and the setting is stunning. Our room exceeded our expectations, and the little finishing touches went a long way in making the stay truly magical. Its also a great base for visiting other locations in the area. The staff are very attentive and helpful with recommendations and arranging things - would def visit again!
