Alexandra Resort is an Underrated Gem

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 19 hours ago

Alexandra Resort is an underrated gem. What was once a timeshare hotel, is now a beautiful All-Inclusive hotel/resort on one of the best beaches in the world, Grace Bay Beach. The Deluxe Garden One-Bedroom Suites are renovated and are very spacious with a full kitchen, dining area, living/tv room area, separate bedrooms, a full primary suite, an additional half bath, and a balcony that spans the length of the living room and primary bedroom. Cleaning service came daily and did an adequate job. Our refrigerator was stocked daily with full size water bottles, soft drinks, and beer. The Front Desk was attentive every time I needed more towels, blankets, water, help with a broken safe, etc. Leading up to this trip, some reviews made me tentative about the services of the resort staff, but either their standards are set way too high, or we were lucky. Only a few of the staff were unwelcoming or too slow for our taste.. 95% of the staff was friendly and put forth plenty of effort to talk to my kids and enhance our vacation experience. We did tip the staff with what I think is generous as often as we could to reward good service as well. Being an all-inclusive resort, we were not anticipating any meals being amazing and that expectation was met.. but no one got sick from any food, the food was tasty enough, there were plenty of options to choose from, I ordered multiple apps and meals every dinner and was never scolded, and the kids menu was very useful all throughout the resort for picky kid eaters. Most importantly, the drinks were very solid and there were plenty of bars to keep the drinks flowing from the early afternoon through the end of the night. The beach bar had the best bartender in my opinion as her rum punch was spot on. Our favorite spot for dinner was the casual Truck Stops (probably because we have kids and the playground is right next to it to keep them busy). But the food there was good and had great presentation on skewers, etc. Fish Deck was second on our list as that food was flavorful and the ambiance there was very nice. Black Rock was also good, but we paid extra for Filet Mignon and Lobster and it was not worth it. Next time, I would get items off the normal menu. Getting food for lunch to go was very easy to do and necessary with the baby needing mid-day naps each day. We loved the smoothie bar and ice cream station. They had sandwiches and fruit stocked there each day.. my wife and I enjoyed smoothies each day and sometimes and acai bowl which was good enough.. and my kids loved the daily ice cream or chocolate chip cookies at the front desk. Entertainment wise.. the Kids Center during the day was very nice for us to escape the sun. They should market it more to show that it is open as you would not know unless you opened the door though. I also think that they should have more activities in the kids center. The staff there was great with our kids however and brought out paint and games nonstop to keep our kids busy for the hours or so we spent there each day. The playground is brand new and it is perfect playground for young kids in my opinion. Has everything they needed. Daily entertainment was fun, but if there were not enough participants right away, I feel as if they gave up. Some staff pushed harder than others to make it fun, but all in all, I think they did a great job and we enjoyed the DJ playing music at the beach and pool. The nightly entertainment is underrated here as well. This is not a party resort, but from 8pm to 10pm or so, there was always something going on. The dancing and fire show was amazing and my kids will remember it for a long time. The family movie night was a cool idea. And even though I say it is not a party resort, it is not like this place is a quaint, quiet resort... there is plenty of fun happening all through each day and night. Everything was all that you should want from a Turks and Caicos vacation. You should be living it up all day on that beautiful beach, so by 10pm, after the entertainment, you need to rest and recharge for the next day! The beach.. I cannot stop thinking about Grace Bay. Walk right in every day to 88-90 degree clear as day ocean water. Small, if any waves and current. They had enough included water activities for use as well. Kids loved taking the kayak out and saw plenty of people using the standing surf boards. The bar is close enough so that you do not have to wait on staff getting you drinks. The chairs and umbrellas are holding up well, but may need to be replaced in the coming years. The pool is a solid pool. Pool bar is underwhelming compared to that at Blue Haven. Pool was clean and warm and sufficient for what you want to use it for. You want to spend your time on the beach here though! Going in August, it was very hot.. but with proper sunscreen use, we avoided getting burnt at all. Did not have any issues at Alexandra with bug bites. Our one night at Blue Haven, we got bit up by mosquitoes since you are dining on the marina. Flies are annoying at Black Rock and Fish Deck, but not a big deal. A cat did scratch my son at Fish Deck, so make sure to leave the cats and other animals to themselves in my opinion. My wife and I did also use the gym daily. Not a bad gym.. had enough equipment to get in solid workouts. It was clean and had plenty of mirrors. Only one treadmill was functioning the whole week we were there. My wife also got a massage one day and said it was very good. Nothing to blow your mind, but very relaxing and nice. Is this resort 5 star quality.. no.. but it is 4+ star and having Grace Bay steps away from your room is worth the price of admission alone. It is a nice, small resort where everything is easy to access in seconds/minutes. Once you are on the grounds for 24 hours, you feel like family with the resort staff and your fellow guests. I have never been to a resort where I met so many friendly fellow guests! And we had a few staff members really go out of their way to make my kids feel like stars during this trip. We had to stay one night at the sister property, Blue Haven (which is also part of the all-inclusive package), and even though that is a beautiful resort with better food, it just did not feel the same as the Alexandra Resort family. I truly felt at home at Alexandra and we will most definitely be going back again next year and hopefully bringing more people with us!

Beautiful vacation, even more beautiful people

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

We had the best time at Alexandra Resort! Not only because Turks & Caicos is one of the most beautiful destinations we’ve ever visited, but because of the incredible people we met along the way who made our vacation truly special. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel so welcome. Everyone was friendly, kind, and genuinely happy to be there. I honestly wish I had written down more names because there were so many people who went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. From the servers at every restaurant to the bartenders and beach staff, the hospitality was amazing. I especially remember the lovely young woman who served us on our very first day. Her smile was so genuine and welcoming, and it immediately set the tone for our entire vacation. But if you ask my daughter who her favorite person was, there is no question — Rhazzor! He gave us our tour when we arrived and somehow remembered all of our names. But it wasn’t just that he remembered us; you could tell that he genuinely cared about making sure our family was having a good time. He took such good care of us throughout our stay and always made us feel like more than just guests. What made him even more special was how thoughtful he was. He remembered our anniversary and even gave my daughter a special gift, which meant so much to her. Those are the little things that you don’t forget. When it was time for us to say goodbye, my daughter actually cried — that’s how much of an impression he made on her. Rhazzor will always have a special place in our hearts and will forever be part of some of our favorite vacation memories. Alexandra is lucky to have someone like him. And then there’s Tash — what a voice! She truly has the voice of an angel. I honestly don’t know how she hasn’t been signed to a label yet! She was another favorite of ours, and the resort is incredibly lucky to have her. The entertainment throughout our stay was so much fun and added so much to the experience. DJ Ding had us dancing and laughing, and I swear he was playing Sean Paul hits just for my daughter and me! 😂 And you can’t forget Kimron, who kept everyone entertained and never seemed to miss a beat. Whether it was the music, the activities, or just the energy around the resort, there was always something fun happening. It really made the atmosphere feel lively without being overwhelming. And the list of wonderful people goes on and on — Edna, Wisley, Lenroy, the woman who made the amazing jerk chicken, the woman bartender at the beach, and so many others whose names I wish I had remembered. Every person we encountered contributed in some way to making our vacation memorable. The resort should be incredibly proud of the people they have representing them. And then there’s the food! My husband, who basically lives to eat 😂, was beyond satisfied. We enjoyed the variety and had some really great meals throughout our stay. There was always something good to look forward to. Our room was also great, especially the spacious patio, which gave us the perfect place to sit back, relax, and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The resort itself was beautiful, the beach was incredible, and the whole experience was exactly what we needed. But honestly, what we will remember most isn’t just the beautiful beach, the food, or the resort. It’s the people. They made us feel welcomed, cared for, and genuinely appreciated. We came to Turks & Caicos looking for a beautiful vacation and left with some really wonderful memories — and a few people we won’t soon forget. Thank you, Alexandra Resort, for an amazing vacation. We can’t wait to come back!

Great Beach, great resort.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

This is a great resort with a very helpful staff and good food. The rooms were of decent size, stocked with water, beer, and drinks. The pool is good, there is a bar there, but it wasn't packed, so while you felt you had your own pool, we did miss a bit of a party atmosphere. There are a lot of restaurants, but they are not all opened, which is a bit annoying, so while you have a lot of options, I did find it odd that so many were closed. They have a free shuttle to their sister resort (Blue Haven), which has a nice pool and good restaurants as well. The best part of the stay was the beach, the beach was awesome, the water was pristine (seemed like I was viewing a postcard).

A Very Disappointing Start to What Should Have Been a Special Celebration

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

I believe it is extremely important for a hotel to listen to and honor its guests’ requests, especially when those requests are communicated clearly and in advance. I booked an ocean-view room specifically for my daughter’s 19th birthday celebration, and my family and I were very much looking forward to making the occasion special. I even went the extra step of calling the hotel the day before our arrival to personally confirm my request that I did not want a ground-floor room. Unfortunately, despite making my request known in advance, we arrived to find that we had been assigned a ground-floor room—the exact type of room I had specifically asked not to have. It was incredibly disappointing and frustrating to have to address this upon arrival, particularly when we were there to celebrate such an important milestone. What made the situation even more disappointing was the fact that other family members traveling with us had booked garden suites, yet they were given a room in the same category as ours and on a higher floor. Considering that I had specifically booked an ocean-view room for my daughter’s birthday and had personally called ahead regarding the floor, this was especially difficult to understand. It took quite some time after our arrival to get the situation sorted out. Instead of arriving excited and ready to celebrate my daughter’s 19th birthday, my family and I were left feeling frustrated and disappointed. The first impression of a special celebration should be excitement, not having to negotiate over the room you carefully booked and specifically discussed with the hotel in advance. I understand that mistakes happen, but this felt particularly avoidable. I did everything I could as a guest to communicate my expectations ahead of time. I simply expected that my request would be documented, heard, and respected. We chose this hotel because we wanted to create wonderful memories for my daughter’s 19th birthday. Unfortunately, the way our arrival was handled put a damper on what should have been a joyful and memorable occasion. I sincerely hope management recognizes how important these details are to guests. When someone books a special room for a milestone celebration and takes the time to call ahead with a specific request, they should feel valued not overlooked.
