New hotel management in 2025- not good.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

There is no ill will nor malicious intention on this review. This was our 4th stay and unfortunately it would be our last. Since 2022, we have been visiting this hotel every year and have seen it's downfall with a new management take over in 2024/2025. Upon the new management take over the superb gastronomy and craft cocktail experience this hotel once had took a downfall. 1. Food under new management: No menu for any Mexican food except for guacamole and beans (no traditional favorites i.e. NO TACOS, QUESSADILLAS, ENCHILLADAS, ..even basic salsa....NONE). Although the Italian restaurant for Dinner is a 4/5 stars, we were shocked to the food menu changes. 2. Mixology/cocktails under new management: New bartender staff seem to lack the training and expertise of the previous mixologists who curated a cocktail menu that was perfection. Today: craft cocktails and the former unique mixology drink menu no longer not exists and customers are left just experience sugary/pedestrian bar drinks. 3. Upstairs rooftop restaurant/bar ADULTS ONLY SECTION: Under the new management same comments in section 1 &2 above. In years past there was chill lounge/down beat music, an elevated mixology drink menu, and a breakfast-lunch menu that was delicious and had mexican food options that were beautifully curated. Today in 2025, its all been reduced /removed; even the music system was not working at the time so no chill down tempo music. 4. STAFF AND ROOM: All the staff are great, hard working, courteous, and welcoming. Rooms were always pristine and kept clean. But under the new management, we observed and heard they replaced the highly skilled bartenders/mixology staff for lower waged work force who were underskilled....it was apparent. 5. BEWARE OF CONDO OWNERS IN THIS HOTEL (KAREN ALERT): The hotel is a timeshare - We encountered negative experiences with the older aged condo owners who had an arrogance/entitlement with the resort amenities i.e. taking prime spots in beach chairs early in the a.m, controlling the music selection with DJ who occassionally appeared on the beach, and were talking so loudly amongst themselves and boasting about their condo ownership; overall they acted like OLDER KARENS! But they were too cheap to buy drinks at the bar and brought their own in a plastic flask?I dont want to see/hear that kind if attitude-rhetoric on my vaca.

Definitely satisfied and would come back

My husband and I loved the Fives Oceanfront . It is a small self contained all inclusive hotel just 15 minutes walk by sidewalk or beach into town. The hotel is tranquil, Zen like , and posh. Lovely beach which is cleaned continuously by hotel staff to get rid of the seaweed so you can enjoy the Caribbean Sea .Although only 2 full service al a carte restaurants on site , both serve tasty food , fairly wide selection , and overlooking the sea; however the service is sometimes slow. The best part of the experience was the hotel staff. Absolutely everyone on staff we had contact with was polite, friendly ,welcoming , and tried so hard to please. If you are a party goer and need a lot of action this place is not for you. But if you want a relaxing ,restful , and happy place to be, then The Fives delivers !

A Very Pleasant Vacation at a quiet boutique hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

This was our first time at the Fives Oceanfront in Puerto Morelos, it has been a very positive and enjoyable experience. At the reception, Lilia greeted us as we were family and coordinated our check-in and orientation at the hotel in a timely fashion. Then we met Joe at the reception of the RoMarley Restaurant. She always has a smile and helps us with our requests for seating. At all three restaurants, the servers are all courteous and are always willing to make our meals a pleasurable experience even though the wait for the food was a bit long. We were on vacation and we were aware of the long wait times. Managers Luis and Joseph are working hard to resolve the problem and while we were there, they opened up the rooftop restaurant for breakfast. Staffing in the food and tourism industry is difficult since 2020 and luckily there are wonderful staff working at The FivesOceanfront. We thank all the servers and bartenders for the excellent service, just to name a few: Jesus, Elvis, Adele, Gabriel, Giovanni, Antonio, Karla, Fernando, Luciano, Sergio, Hair, Alexis, Karen, Fidel and all the others woh helped them. At the Al Mar restaurant, one of the chef Pedro works with a team that offers quality meals full of flavour and the presentation of the plates is superb, a true culinary experience. Gustavo, the animation coordinator , is a gentleman. He added a new dimension to our vacation with the following activities: bracelet making, candle making, culinary session and other activities. This allowed us to enjoy and discover some treasures of the Mexican culture. I am sorry that I cannot name all the team members who work very hard to make our stay memorable. Thank you to all of you, housekeeping, bartenders, the 3 persons cleaning the beach, the greeters and all other staff members for delivering such wonderful services to us and all the guests. The Fives Oceanfront is designed to be a restful and peaceful retreat, if you are looking for a loud party location to spend a vacation, please choose another location.

Total waste of money. Don't do it.

The whole experience was not great.. We arrived to the hotel at about 930 pm due to being held up at the airport. Checking in at the hotel was slow. The Lobby was empty as the Lobby Bar was closed. So we get to our room which I will say was lovely. The view was amazing. ( didn't know that till morning). We had a 2 bdrm suite so I had my own bed and bathroom. We were very hungry but there was no where to eat. They have no snack bars and all restarunts were closed as were all the bars. All we could do was room service, which they charged for. So much for all inclusive. The food from room service was free but there was a 7 dollar delivery fee. Once it arrived it was cold and not very appetizing at all. The next morning we went to breakfast with only one dining area open and it is order by menu. There is no snack bars or any where just to get a banana. It all has to be ordered. We waited in a long line to finally get seated. Once seated the service was so slow. Once we finally got some service we ordered coffee and juice before deciding on food. That took forever to get to us. We order a basic bacon and egg breakfast but they have no pork bacon. Everything was turkey bacon or turkey sausage. You had to order that separately does not come with the eggs. Some green salad comes with your eggs. The toast has to be ordered separately as does hash browns. Once your done you have to sign a bill and there is a tip option. This bill happens every time you order anything. If you go to the bar you have to give your room number and they have a bill for you to sign with tip option. It gets to be a pain signing every time you want a drink. Then there is a Italian Restaurant that opens every second night. You must make reservations. But even with reservations the wait was up to 2 hrs . The frustration was real with so many people. Many people just left and ordered room service. If you were lucky to get in on your reservation the wait for service could be anywhere up to 2 hrs. It was a total joke. The upstairs pool was beautiful and they do have a bar up there and you can have lunch up there as well. But the bar closes at 6. Then your back to one bar maybe 2 if the lower pool bar is open. The Lobby bar doesn't open till 6. The beach is beautiful and kept clean, but limited lounge chairs so you have to be quick and get up early to get one. By the pool they have loungers but only a few there so there is no other seating. If you don't get a lounger at the beach or pool side you have to stand. The upper level pool has a few more seats ... There is no entertainment in the evening or during the day for that matter. I should say they do have a little reggae band that comes once a week and plays a few songs. One night a duet team came to the lobby and sang a few songs. But that was it. There is nothing to do after 6 unless your waiting for some food .. Now on to the good stuff.. The Staff.. They are amazing and work so hard. They try to keep you happy in every way. But they have it rough always keeping you signing the bill for everything. It is extra work for them and you can see it takes it toll. They will go out of their way to try and help you get a lounger and make you as happy as they can. Im not sure if this is because they are short staffed or if Management isn't doing their job. But for the price we paid it was robbery. Its sad because it has potential. But again I love the staff and we will be keeping in touch.. I wish them all the very best.

Great Resort! A Few Issues

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This resort is obviously beautiful, and overall we had a nice stay. The staff were all great, and it was in a nice location. It was easy to walk to town. However, we did have some issues. When we booked, we found the website to be very confusing. We called to reserve because of this and were forced into the all inclusive package. We kept asking for the price without it and they would only give us a price for all inclusive. The food at the resort is mediocre. We would have much rather have walked to town everyday for food, as the local restaurants are significantly better, but we would have been wasting money if we didn’t at least go to breakfast and dinner. The wait staff were absolutely fantastic though! We loved talking to Hair, and every person we talked to were very friendly. We kept being pushed into going to this presentation for their travel club and it took double the time they said it would. Luckily, the person giving the presentation was very nice, and they were not pushy about joining. They did give us a free 50 minute massage for going as well. The last things are minor, but we forgot our shampoo and conditioner. The shampoo they provide does not lather well and did not work for my hair. Be sure to remember your own shampoo or buy some in town. Also, they didn’t tell us about the activities! We loved doing crafts with Gustavo! Highly recommend checking those out. Overall, we would come back, but we definitely would not get the all inclusive next time.
