The best family vacation at Tierra!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 12 hours ago

Tierra Patagonia was an amazing family vacation! We had serious exercise during the day with incredibly knowledgeable guides and came home to a relaxing and beautiful place at the end of the day. To walk down to 4 course dinner every night in slippers and fabulous service after a dip in the pool was the best! The setting here is gorgeous and ties in so well with the landscape. The time we got to spend with our grown children was priceless and the memories fantastic. We miss it already!

Fantastic stay, amazing setting

No need to rough it in the wilds of Patagonia! What a beautifully designed lodge in a spectacular setting! Food is wonderful, hiking options abound and the staff is ready to accommodate. Our family of 4 (ages 70, 58, 23 and 21) spent 4 nights at Tierra Patagonia which was great for our schedule and as we had fantastic weather. They recommend 5 nights, and I think that's probably better to give low key/rest days between big hikes and allow for inclement weather days. Our most memorable excursions were the wetlands/wildlife (go with Eduardo!), Bridges over Grey Glacier (this is challenging in that you HAVE to make the last boat at the end of the day, so the pace has to be quick, not leisurely), Base of the Towers hike (tbh, I did not do this iconic hike, but my husband and very fit adult children did it, "it was hard but worth it, mom"), and the horseback ride (I did this instead of the Towers hike - beautiful horses, varied terrain that showed off the vastness of Patagonia.) We also enjoyed the shorter Origins hike. Our reservations specialist, Niber, recommended we spend the last morning enjoying the spa. I initially poo-pooed that idea, but it really was spot on. We got (much needed and much appreciated) fantastic massages, took a walk down to the lake, got close to a guanaco. Rooms are clean and comfortable with lovely soaking tubs and spectacular views; they are not overly posh feeling but very nice. The public lounging areas are perfect, providing spaces that give you the sense of and options for both privacy and social. The resort gifts you with lightweight neck gaiters/buffs and provides really well-designed and constructed waterproof backpacks as well as hiking sticks to use. A big shout out to two of our servers: Celeste and Sophia. Celeste was just delightful in sharing her enthusiasm and her culture, making sure we tried a local spice, Merkan, and gave us some to take home. When I asked Sophia about Chilean seasonal specialties, like Cola de Mono and Mote con Huesillo, she spoke to the chef and the bartender and they made them for us the next day! Wow, did we feel special :) A few tips, below... - Breakfast is a mix of buffet and to order. Everyone is there about the same time, so if you plan to order something hot, like eggs, you need to allow a decent amount of time. - Food is great. Lunch and dinner are multi course with meat, pescatarian and vegetarian options. There's also a bar menu, if you ask. There was a night or two after big hikes when my son needed a little more food, so he ordered off the main menu and the bar menu - lol! - No TV's in the rooms, but we were able to catch a college football playoff game with no problem in their TV room. - As we had been to another Ballies lodge (Southern Ocean Lodge in Kangaroo Island) we received a return client discount and there was also a special offer going on (maybe Labor Day sale??) that we were also able use!

Epic life experience

Just wow. We stayed at Tierra Patagonia for a 4 night stay, Dec 13-17. It was an absolute pleasure to stay here and they truly exceeded our expectations. The hotel is exceptional in every detail. From the moment you arrive, you feel the warmth of the lodge and of the people. The food was delicious. We especially enjoyed the soups at dinner. They also have a bar menu with comfort food available. The rooms are well provisioned and have everything you need including a spectacular view of the lake and mountains. The excursions are well organized and flexible. You will receive a personal explanation of everything available on your first day and a customized plan and map to maximize your time here. We did several excursions and loved each one. Of special note, we did the Mirador Base of the Towers hike! It took 9 hours, 17 miles, 3300 feet of elevation gain, and was definitely really tough. It was so worth it to reach the top and be rewarded with the most beautiful view of the 3 towers and lagoon! Thank you to Matias and Alonzo for the excellent briefing and your expertise! The best asset of Tierra Patagonia is their people. Their hospitality training is obvious but their graciousness comes from the heart. Everyone, and I mean everyone, was so kind, welcoming, pleasant, and caring. They are true ambassadors to their beautiful country of Chile. Just to name a few of the people we were fortunate to meet and a big thank you to: our driver Sebastian, front desk Sebastian, guides Matias and Alonzo, servers Joaquin, Nacho, Pia, and Valentina, and bar tender Chris. We also appreciated the managers, Esteban and Issac, for spending a few minutes with us. Patagonia is a spectacular place and a very challenging environment. We are so glad we stayed at Tierra Patagonia and will cherish the memories for a lifetime.

Unforgettable Tierra Patagonia

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Tierra Patagonia is breathtaking. The excursions were top-notch, and we greatly appreciated the time the staff spent planning them with us based on our interests and—most importantly—the weather, which allowed us to optimize views and overall experience. There was an excellent balance between more rigorous adventures and relaxing excursions, making the stay both exciting and restorative. When the airline lost our luggage, the team at Tierra Patagonia was incredibly supportive, kindly loaning us jackets and gear until everything arrived. They also made the trip back to the airport on our behalf to collect our luggage when it arrived. Their thoughtfulness made what could have been a stressful situation completely manageable.
