Reviews for Barcelo Puerto Vallarta

Nice Vacation but…

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

We were at Barcelo in November 2025 and April 2026. In general the property is very nice and well taken care of. It would be nice if they had a lobby bar to go to in the evenings as we found the seating in the small cantina to be extremely uncomfortable. It is very small for the size of the hotel. I don’t know if we will return only because of location. We like to be able to walk off property and finds shops and restaurants. I didn’t feel comfortable walking on the highway. This hotel is very accessible for people with mobility aides. Room: We stayed in a Grand Master Suite Premium Level both times. The room is very comfortable but both rooms 6th floor in November and 8th floor in March really need to have the cushions on the couch replaced. That is really the only complaint on the room we had. Love the balcony and view from these rooms. There is a ton of storage with the double closet, large main bath and the second bathroom is a nice added feature. Would be nice if they had Keurig type coffee machines rather than the drip as those coffee packs never give you a proper cup of coffee. Both fridges are stocked and replenished daily. A lot of bottled water is supplied in the room. Housekeeping did a great job and the turn down service was nice. Food: We had meals in all of the restaurants except the Sushi. Italian was alright, fettuccine is good, chicken parm was good. My husband had the lasagna and did not care for it. The minestrone soup was not good. The bell pepper soup I really enjoyed. The Mexican restaurant was good. I really enjoyed the chicken with the chilly sauce and my husband enjoyed the pork dish. The salads are very good and fresh, the soups are tasty. The steak and Seafood is way too dark. They gave us a beautiful table right in front of the ocean but as soon as the sun went down we could not see our meals. We both had the steak and agree it was very good but it was incredibly hard to eat as it was served on a black cast iron dish so in the dark it made it very difficult to see. I enjoyed the melted cheese appetizer for the first few bites but they brought the main course out very quickly so I could not eat the rest. They could really time things better with enough time between to enjoy each course. The buffet is better than most. There were many options and plenty of space in the dining room. The ladies at the omelette stations did a wonderful job and there were plenty of options for fillings. They keep the bacon at the omelette station but it is like jerky. Very chewy. There is lots of fresh fruit, yogurts, pancakes, french toast and pretty much anything you could want for breakfast. The addition of a smoothie bar is a nice touch. We had dinner in the buffet twice. Oriental night and can’t remember the theme of the second night. Both nights were good and we were well fed. Pool: The pools are great and we were very happy to not have to play the chair game. We came to the pool everyday at 8:30 and barely any chairs were taken. We used the adult pool only but there were plenty of chairs at the family pool and the one with volleyball net. Service around the pool was great. Would be nice if the swim up bar was in the adult pool instead of the family pool. Staff: The staff at this hotel are fantastic and treat you like royalty. In the buffet Luis was our go to guy. He took great care and brought our coffee, baileys and mimosas out in record speed. David and Moses are also fantastic. Moses works the morning buffet and then the pool. Such a nice young man. Karen in the premium lounge is great. She always remembered our drink and had a smile. Cassandra at the front desk went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. I would recommend to anyone wishing to have a nice relaxing vacation as this is not a party hotel. They do have evening shows but we did not go so can’t say what they were like.

Good, but not perfect

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

Rooms are big, but need some renovations and noise isolation. Food and service in buffet are perfect. shows and entertainments are boring. It is small and not always clean beach. Nice pools, but bar is in family pool, not in adults, this is strange.

Beautiful resort nestled in a dreamy cove

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

Barcelo Puerto Vallarta is nestled in a nice scenic cove. Most of the rooms have either full view or partial view of the ocean with a view of the pool, garden, and small spanish villas up above. The rooms are very spacious. Our room had a separate living room area a hallway leading to the bathroom and the main room with the beds tv and fridge. The balcony is very spacious. The resort is about 20 minutes from the downtown area depending on traffic and about 30-40 minutes from the PVR airport. The resort is located on the Mismaloya beach. It is a fishing town with lots of fishing and snorkeling boats on the water. It is a great beach to go snorkeling, a boat is not necessary. If you snorkel by the rocks you will find so many variety of colorful fish. It was nice to look out into the balcony and watch the Pelicans dive down to catch their meal. This is a nice quiet resort. The food was delicious, staff were friendly and worked really hard. To reserve the a la carte meals you would need to get to the service desk at 9:00 am each day otherwise many of the time slots get booked quickly. We enjoyed Don Quixote the best. The lamb dish was delicious. If you walk to the left at Mismaloya beach you will reach the cliffs where you can see Los Arcos and where a lot of the locals go fishing. Mismaloya beach is also a public beach. On the left they have vendors and places where you can get a massage at a decent price.

Relaxing vintage experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

As an architect, I really appreciated the overall facility layout. We very much enjoyed the multiple pools and the restaurants as well. The suite was very large and comfortable, and the bed was exquisite. However, we were disappointed that there were no English speaking channels available on the TV once we got back to our room and even if is a ‘push’ for some, there should be no reason to not have a smart TV where one could cast their Netflix or YouTube, etc., up to the screen. I spoke with the manager about this and the Hotel chain is actually working on addressing the issue. The resort is about 20+ minutes south of Puerto Vallarta proper which of course would require transportation to and from. Hotel staff was very kind, gracious and accommodating and for those with families there are all sorts of dedicated activities and venues to keep everyone happy.
