Reviews for Barcelo Puerto Vallarta

Good value for the price point

Transportation: We booked Vallarta White Glove Transportation for our airport transfer. While it was a bit pricier than other options, it was worth every penny for the peace of mind—especially since we were traveling with five teens/young adults. Avoiding the chaos and hassling outside the airport was priceless. They were easy to find, and our driver, Alfredo, was safe, courteous, and friendly, even giving us a mini tour of town on the way to the resort. I’d give them a solid 10/10 and highly recommend them. We did take an Uber once for shopping and the Broadway Experience, which was fine, but for airport transfers, I’d stick with Vallarta White Glove. Lobby & Check-In: Check-in was smooth, quick, and painless. The lobby is spacious and welcoming, and staff had us in our rooms in no time. Rooms: We stayed in a Deluxe King Suite (non-premium), which was great for our family of 3–4. The layout included a partition between the king room and the kids’ area, which had a twin bed with a trundle, its own TV, and a table with chairs. The king side had its own TV, couch, and balcony access. A sliding barn door separated the two spaces, giving everyone a bit of privacy. Housekeeping: Overall fine, but with a few hiccups. Service times varied day to day, making it tricky to plan around. Twice, our towels and drinks were removed but not replaced, even after multiple calls, so we had to use pool towels after showers. There was also a mix-up with a personal blanket (likely mistaken for a towel) that took three days and a lot of follow-up to get back. Staff were polite but language barriers made resolving it harder. These were minor inconveniences and didn’t ruin our stay. Dining: We didn’t starve, but the food left something to be desired. The Los Arcos and Capri à la cartes were fantastic, though the Capri’s long-pants/closed-shoes dress code felt excessive when seated next to screaming kids. I get the ambiance they’re aiming for, but the contrast was odd. This was the first all-inclusive we’ve visited (out of eight) that limited à la carte reservations—we only got three for our seven-night stay, meaning we couldn’t try all four restaurants. Reservations could only be made daily starting at 9:00 am, and if you weren’t there right away, you didn’t get your choice. I also learned (on the last day!) that as Expedia Rewards members, we could have upgraded to premium without a room change, which would have given us more dining options. Breakfast was usually at the buffet—great fresh fruit and a good egg station, though the line could be long. Lunch was mostly from the snack bar, where the taco buffet was a hit. Dinner was usually the buffet except for our three à la carte nights. The seafood night was a favorite. Overall, we ate well enough, but I was glad to go home and get out of the buffet routine. Pools & Beach: The pool setup was strange—the “kids” pool has the bar and is deeper than the other pool. Bathrooms are inconveniently located, requiring a walk through restaurant hallways in wet swimsuits. We later found a bathroom hidden in the rocks, but it’s only accessible from the adult side. The bar and bathrooms should be closer together, with better signage. One odd experience: someone accidentally took our pool towel, and when I reported it, the front desk told me I was responsible and even suggested I take someone else’s towel. We didn’t, of course, but the suggestion was appalling. The beach is small but sandy (no rocks) and there were always chairs available. The bugs were bad—no bites when we stayed at the pool, but after a day on the beach we were covered in bites. Still, we enjoyed beach volleyball and ocean swims, and we even got to watch a turtle come ashore and lay eggs. The resort relocates them to a conservation site for safe hatching, which was great to see. Entertainment: The entertainment staff was friendly, fun, and remembered our names, which made interactions feel personal. They encouraged participation without being pushy, and we appreciated the little nudge. I even played water polo (once—my body says that’s enough!). Overall Impressions: I would recommend this resort with the understanding that it’s not a five-star property. For the price, it was a good value, and the location is beautiful. I wish the Mismaloya Grille had been open—it had great reviews—but it was closed for the season. I’d suggest budgeting for a couple of off-resort meals, as the ones we had were far better than most resort food. All in all, a good stay with memorable moments, but a few tweaks could make it even better.

Worth The Visit

Great place and server was on top of our orders. The atmosphere has that 50's vibe so if you want to reminisce and have a nice evening to unwind this is the place to be if you're in Barceloʻ Puerto Vallarta.

The all-you-can-eat restaurant had bad service. The food was bad organized. the servers' cooking the food were not friendly and made it seem like it was a bother to make what we ordered.it was like that at the other restaurant during breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The rooms were the best part, we came from California to stay eight days at this hotel. The food and service were terrible.
