Barcelo Puerto Vallarta

My family’s stay at this hotel was disappointing overall. The food was one of the biggest letdowns—low in quality, lacking variety, and surprisingly even at the Mexican dinner the local cuisine was not represented much. Breakfast was the best meal in the buffet, lunch and dinner were just bad. Meals felt repetitive and uninspired, making dining more of a chore than a highlight. The restaurants are ok, the grill is the best of the four restaurants at the resort. The service was equally underwhelming. The room cleaning was inconsistent, and at times unreliable, which added unnecessary frustration during the stay. Every day the cleaning lady will take the dirty towels and not put fresh ones instead. So you come back to the room and there are no towels at all. We had to phone the reception and ask to bring the towels. There is no lotion and hair conditioner in the bathroom. Bring your own. The general level of service throughout the hotel was hit and miss—some staff were helpful, but others seemed disengaged, leading to an uneven experience. The kids club is good. The swimming conditions were also far from ideal. The ocean water was rough and visibly dirty, which made it unappealing and uncomfortable to swim in. This was a major downside, especially for a destination where beach and water activities are expected to be a key attraction. There are lots of no-see-ums which bite like crazy and everyone in my family was bitten dozens of times. Overall, the hotel did not meet expectations compared to Barcelo Maya or other Rivera Maya resorts, particularly in areas that matter most for a relaxing and enjoyable stay.
