Beautiful rooms, but poor value for families with older kids

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We know Punta Mita well and have stayed many times inside the gates at the Four Seasons and St. Regis. We also regularly stay at other luxury resorts in Mexico, including Rosewood Mayakoba and Grand Velas in Cabo and Cancun. In our experience, Susurros del Corazón is priced in the same range, but delivers materially less value than those alternatives. On this trip, we rented a house in Punta Mita for five days and then stayed at Susurros for two nights on the back end. We had considered extending our stay at Susurros, but decided to go home instead. The best part of the stay was our two-bedroom, two-bath residence. It was spectacular: spacious, beautifully designed, and finished to a very high standard. Most of the staff were friendly, and the food was good. That said, food pricing felt aggressive even by luxury resort standards. For example, breakfast for avocado toast, an açaí bowl, waffles, coffee, and two orange juices was about $150 USD. The bigger issue is that the resort felt very limited for families. My kids are 12 and 10, and they were bored after the first day. The kids club seems geared toward younger children, and there is no teen club. The beach was too rough for swimming during our stay. There are three pools, but they are small, and kids can really only play in one of them. That created a strange dynamic where the family pool was full and hard to enjoy, while the adult and relaxation pools were mostly empty. The beach was also mostly empty, and the hotel overall felt too quiet and understaffed. The most disappointing experience involved the kids club. The one activity my son was excited about was Mexican candy making. We arrived a few minutes early, but were told it was full, even though only 5-6 kids were participating. He was told he could sit and watch, which obviously was not a real solution for a 10-year-old. What surprised me most was that nobody tried to solve the problem. No effort to add supplies, create another session, offer an alternative activity, or do anything small to make it right. I asked to speak with management that afternoon, and was told they were busy helping other guests and would call me. No one called. I asked again the next morning before we left, and the response was essentially that they would talk to the kids club. That was it. No real acknowledgment, no urgency, and no small gesture for a disappointed child. For me, that said a lot about how the property handles problems. We also had a few service issues. After in-room dining, we called for tray pickup, but no one ever came. We eventually put the trays outside the room before bed and asked they be picked up, and they still were not picked up overnight. Bottom line: if you are traveling with very young children, this may be fine. But for families with older kids, I would not recommend it. There simply is not enough to do, the kids programming is limited, and the problem solving is non-existent. For adults-only travel, I think there are better options in Mexico and the Caribbean at this price point if you care about service, activities, or overall value. Net net, the room was beautiful, but for the price, I expected much more.

A second fantastic stay at Susurros

Have stayed at the resort twice over the last three months. It is a beautiful property and the staff couldn’t be more accommodating. Luxurious rooms and all amenities top notch. Food quality and service excellent. Amazing sunsets on the beach. Small towns nearby with hidden gem restaurants and shops. A truly special place. We will return!!

Beautiful resort

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

The staff were some of the friendliest people ever. We were there during the PV cartel incident and the resort made sure we were well informed, taken care of, and comfortable. Prior to this incident, our stay was amazing...beach is nice and private, service was excellent. The food options were good, but I'll say I enjoyed the buffet options provided(unexpectedly when the resort was under lockdown). I'd recommend they offer more buffet experiences like this! The drinks are a little pricey for what you get, so I'd like to see the cost come down there. Otherwise, an excellent resort, great amenities.

Recommend waiting until construction is complete

We stayed for 4 nights in an ocean view room in February. The room was lovely, and we really enjoyed sitting on our patio overlooking the pool & beach. The staff were also so amazing and kind. This hotel would be at the top of our list for our next beach vacation…but not until after construction is complete. They are building a new residences tower, and are not giving guests a heads up before arrival. From the pool you can hear “beep beep beep” and the loud rumblings of construction equipment all day. They are also not using the spa for massages during construction, so you just go to a hotel room to get a massage. The massage was good (even though someone walked into the room during the middle of it), but I missed the full experience of the spa and being able to relax a bit and enjoy the amenities before being rushed outside and having to do math and sign the bill immediately. Also just a note for couples: they have 3 pools 1. Adults only. This one has a swim up bar, and if there is a business group in attendance, this pool can get pretty full and rowdy. This one is furthest away from the beach. 2. Family pool 3. “Relaxation Pool” they allow kids here, but signs say they have to be supervised and it’s supposed to be more chill (no jumping, etc). Unfortunately no one monitors this, so we experienced lots of kids playing, splashing, and even jumping and diving off the rock wall into the pool. Their parents were not with them, and another mom told them NOT to dive, at least. But it was far from relaxing if you wanted some peace and quiet. (Side note: my husband d found the lounge chairs to be very uncomfortable- not enough padding) For us the construction is the real bummer, and we won’t consider going back until it is complete (especially since they are not offering discounts for the disruption). Otherwise we would be giving 5 stars because everything else was top notch!

I stayed at Susurros for two nights in shoulder season, May 2025, when the resort was at about 40% occupancy. The resort is absolutely beautiful and the rooms are very large. I was in an Oceanview Casita, which is over 1000 square feet, with an enormous terrace, walk-in closet, and floor to ceiling windows overlooking the three pools and the ocean. The staff is extremely friendly and professional. Everyone seemed to know my name, including those I'd never interacted with before. Beach and pool service was very good.

My only disappointment was the food at the main restaurant. Breakfast was sort of ho-hum (only sweet breads, no sausage or bacon sides), but eating al fresco oceanfront made up for the lack of croissants and pork. Two things to expect: drinks are weak (every shot measured and only one shot) and dinner is expensive. The taco restaurant and beach/pool menu were excellent however (sushi on the beach - love it) and not so pricey.

Sayulita is nearby and worth a visit. Transportation is managed in-house, which is a nice touch. While the resort offers activities (cooking classes and the like), there really isn't anything to "do." It's really about unplugging and relaxing. If you like all-inclusives or "experiences," Susurros is not for you. Overall, a wonderful experience for solo travelers who want peace and quiet (I worked on my book), couples, and young families.
