We celebrated my wife's grandmother's 90th birthday here. Our extended family of 17 people stayed for 6 nights in 3 suites. With 17 people, let's just say there was a variety of personalities and potential drama, and certainly plenty that cold have gone wrong. The staff at Los Altos was the highlight of our trip. They became familiar faces to us, always with a smile, always willing to help. We saw some of the same staff members at the restaurant, by the pool, and down the hill serving drinks and food at the secluded beach. They took time to get to know us and were always ready to make sure we had a great vacation. A special thank you to Ines, who always happened to be waiting on us at breakfast! Of course the location is nice, lots of activities in that area. Our group went deep sea fishing, waterfall trekking, nature walking at night, diving off Cano island, mangrove kayaking, etc etc. Just plenty to keep all ages busy. And the immediate little town above the resort has several great restaurants and shops, including a grocery and pharmacy. I also have to give a shout out to the spa. I don't often do spa appointments but wife and her aunt raved about their treatments, so I did a deep tissue massage that was the best and most relaxing spa experience I can remember. And a very reasonable price, by US standards. All in all, this family trip (for this in-law) was as good as we could have hoped for, made so by the amazing Los Altos resort and especially the staff. Thank you all so much!

We had the most wonderful experience at the Los Altos resort! We came on our honeymoon, stayed in one of the villas and everything was truly perfect. Carlos (our butler) was excellent, along with Jefferson, Alex, Paco, and Jeremy who went above and beyond with their customer service. We truly enjoyed their company and they made our experience one we will never forget. We are hoping to come back next time with our children.

Beautiful hotel with amazing views of the florest and ocean. Well appointed rooms- we first stayed at the townhouse with our own plunge pool and once our daughter arrived we moved to one of the very spacious apartments. The view of the florest and sea are breathtaking. What we loved the most was Para beach. Advise- take the 4x4 to get there and back, otherwise it is a very steep hike. While in Los Altos we saw monkeys, macaws, a sloth and other animals. The people are all super friendly. All in all I highly recommend Los Altos and would be back in a heartbeat

Staff at Los Altos is amazing, Sebastian saved us when our travel group made none of the excursions reservations that had told us they had made. Ines in the restaurant is terrific and the food was wonderful. The resort is ok, we stayed in the penthouse which can sleep 8. There will be construction next door for 2-3 years on a new resort depending on who you talk to. We spent whole stay listening to chainsaws and trucks clearing the area less than 300 yards from our building, restaurant and pool area. Apparently the idea is to raise volume of pool music (local music and staff got a bit upset when two people asked them to change it) to drown out the chainsaws. Less than ideal. Room is nice good views. 3 levels but most of the balcony views are obstructed. Very odd set up. Problems are if you stay in main building it’s very close to road and it’s loud. Trucks and motorbikes starting early to late. There are other rooms for two people that are away from the road that may be better. Pool is fine, beach is non existent at this location (we knew that going in). But we would not stay again.

We spent 5 nights at this property and firstly it is fair to say that we really enjoyed our time here. The positives are that the rooms are very spacious, beds are comfortable etc, the swimming pool is lovely with very comfortable loungers, hot tubs and there is a beautiful private beach (shared with one other property). Special mention to Jeremy, the member of staff at the beach, who was very attentive and enthusiastic about showing us the sloth in the trees. The gym is also decent. The location of the hotel is good too- right next to the hotel is an excellent sushi restaurant- Enso- and also a fantastic Thai restaurant called Samui. However, it did have a number of flaws that made our stay quite frustrating. Firstly, the service from the staff at both breakfast and at the pool was appalling. They were very unfriendly, constantly got orders wrong and we got the impression that either they really didn’t like us or simply hated their jobs and just couldn’t be bothered to put any effort into listening to us or helping us. For a supposed 5 star hotel, the breakfast menu was very limited and you’d expect them to make poached eggs but I was told that I could only have scrambled or fried. We had to remind them on a daily basis to bring out the fruit and bread basket that was meant to be served at each sitting. It was also very annoying to be charged extra for a very mediocre cappuccino each day. And an extra annoyance was to be told by a waitress one day that they don’t serve cappuccinos. When on the previous day the same waitress had given me one! Secondly, whilst the rooms were spacious they did feel a bit soulless and we certainly tired. In one room there were stains on the curtain and on the bed. The decor is almost a bit industrial and not inviting. Plus the elevator system is not ideal- as other guests mention- the elevator opens directly into your room. You can close an internal door which stops anyone coming into the room without a key but it is very easy to forget this. This doesn’t mean that anyone can enter your room but it does mean that if you call the elevator to your room and someone else is already in that elevator, they might walk into your apartment without releasing. Also because of this, if you forget to close the internal door, there is no system for the staff to knock on the door/ give you privacy. The elevator doors open to your room and they just walk into and shout “hello”! Thirdly, while I personally loved the beach, I can understand why many may not. There is a short walk over rocks to get to the sandy area. There are sun loungers and towels but no umbrellas and very limited facilities. So overall, we did enjoy our stay and I do want to emphasise that- but Los Altos Resort is a real disappointment as a 5 star property and a a real let down to the SLH group.
