Subpar Service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Upon arriving I was given an accessible room. I asked to be moved to a regular room because I find the bathrooms in those rooms to be difficult for me to navigate. I was staying for several nights and wanted to be comfortable. I was informed that all the other rooms were taken that evening so I inquired if they could move me the following day. At that point, I was told by the gentleman at the front desk that he could move me to a suite for the night but would charge me a significant extra fee for the one night. It was almost midnight so they clearly weren't going to sell that suite - in my experience, true 5 star hotels move you for the one night at no extra cost and then find different accommodations for the remaining nights because that's what good service looks like. When I declined to pay the up charge, the gentleman then said I should stop back by the front desk the following day and "maybe" they could help. Again, a hotel that understands good service would have made a note to see if they could accommodate my request to move the next day and gotten in contact with me instead of telling me to stop by the front desk and maybe someone would help.... I fully understand that sometimes hotels can't accommodate requests to move rooms if they are full but I do expect better service than this. Very disappointing.

Five Stars Well Deserved

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

My stay at this five-star hotel was absolutely exceptional from start to finish. The staff provided warm, attentive service and went above and beyond to ensure every detail was perfect. The hotel is located right on the border to the Old Town. This made everything walkable. The room was comfortable, beautifully designed, and impeccably clean, with stunning views of the St Lawrence River and the Isle of Orleans. The bed was firm and comfortable, the blackout curtains were a bonus and the size of the bathroom was large. There was a steamer in the room for one's garments, a Nespresso machine and maple treats left by housekeeping. It boasted a rainforest shower, heated floors and luxurious amenities. The concierge was a gem. He helped navigate a day away from the city on a trip to Montmorency Falls and the Isle of Orleans. There was coffee available in the lobby and the front desk had water available as you went out for the day or returned from a long trek. Valet parking was simple and efficient. The breakfast dining experience each morning was outstanding, offering delicious options and excellent service (ask for Nancy's section--she is a brilliant server and made each morning truly enjoyable). The facilities, including the pool, were world-class and incredibly relaxing. The Pool is located on the top floor with a breathtaking view. The water is warm and after a long day of sight-seeing and shopping in the city, it was wonderful to simply relax. It was never crowded and when others were there they were polite and quiet (some pools can be very boisterous, not this one). There was only one part that was uneven about the stay. Sometimes there was turndown service, other times not. However, every other aspect of my visit reflected quality, comfort, and professionalism. I felt truly valued as a guest and left with wonderful memories. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a luxury getaway. It truly is a 5 star experience in the heart of Quebec City.

Be prepared to be disappointed

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

This was supposed to be a weekend getaway for my 50th birthday. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a three-minute lecture on how to navigate the hotel. For those keeping score, getting to our room requires two separate elevator rides and a long trek out to the back nine. After the customary (and rather snarky) check-in formalities, we were guided to our room by the front desk staff. Let's me clear: if your staff feels compelled to explain how to navigate the property, you have a systemic design flaw. It isn't a cute quirk; it is a structural failure. The room was poorly appointed. It was cramped, defined by poor workmanship, and truly the worst "mini-bar" ever. And, those were the highlights. During our four-day visit, housekeeping did not change the sheets once. Even after a minor accident left blood on the linens, the cleaning staff simply remade the bed with the soiled sheets still on it. The room service, on the second day, was equally disappointing; the eggs and bacon arrived undercooked, and when the issue was raised, it went completely unresolved. To "make up" for our disappointment, the front desk supervisor sent a small box of cheap chocolates and then dispatched staff to our room four times in the span of three hours to "check on us." Did they actually clean or remake the room? No. Did they offer a complimentary meal or a discount? No. They simply chose to repeatedly annoy customers who were already highly annoyed. In short, the staff are not particularly friendly or helpful, the rooms are underwhelming, and the service is ridiculous. A luxury price without luxury service or amenities. I am deeply disappointed, I will not return, and I strongly advise avoiding this property entirely. You will be treated significantly better at Le Germain or Auberge Saint-Antoine.

Honeymoon

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

We stayed here for our honeymoon. The location is prime in old Quebec. The staff were exceptional and accommodating, very eager to make sure we had a wonderful stay. The restaurant is Italian, we tried it on our last day but wish we tried it sooner, the food was excellent. There is a beautiful view of the city on the ninth floor from the pool. The bed was very comfortable. We were easily able to explore old Quebec and St Roch by foot. Above all, again the staff were so helpful. Thank you so much for hosting our first trip together, we will never forget it!
