Beautiful historic hotel right on plaza San Francisco

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We stayed at Casa Gangotena twice on our trip. It’s a beautiful historic hotel. Great location in old town right on Plaza San Francisco (and near many restaurants, sights, and chocolate places). The team is great. So friendly and they think of everything. We had a late arrival and they provided some snacks and drinks in the room. When we had an early departure, they provided a breakfast bag for our trip. The rooms are large with pretty architectural details. The they provide a power strip with lots of plugs bedside - thank you! Due to the beautiful marble and stone, you can hear the large heavy doors close and talking at times, but didn’t bother me. Bathrooms are large with separate walk in shower. The full size toiletries smell great (and thank you for not having tiny disposable packaging). Big fluffy towels. They provide bottles of still and sparkling water. We dined at the rooftop to watch the plaza. The drinks were creative and delicious. Our server was very friendly. Breakfast was quite good with buffet items (fruit, eggs, cereal, yogurt, pastries) and a menu with made to order dishes (included). Overall a wonderful hotel option in Quito.

The service here is peerless. The knowledge and love for Ecuador is on full display in the food, the accommodations and the above and beyond service to our needs and well being. If anyone is coming to Quito, they need to book here for the best experience possible.

Historic Indeed

This is a beautiful restored historic Hotel - all the charms of long ago! It is in the heart of Old Quito and perfect for walking and ambling around d the city. I found the staff at check in friendly and very welcoming, and soon I was escorted to my room. My room was spacious and comfortable, with high ceilings and a 'monster' bed! (and comfy) The bathroom large, with a walk in shower and plenty of vanity space. Breakfast in the lovely Dining room - lots to choose from and with the option of a menu for hot meals. Staff at breakfast were wonderful and I had some great chats. I did not eat dinner, but I enjoyed my evenings on the rooftop. The attentive staff on the rooftop made up for each very pleasant evening - the views from here are magic and especially when it's dark. Plenty of offers for a blanket and constantly checking to see if I was comfortable and not cold. A wonderful stay at this Hotel.....

Plenty Better Options Elsewhere!

A special holiday that was ruined by the false promises and lies made by the hotel sales and management team!! This stay was the climax of a 4-week holiday in Peru and Ecuador. As part of the booking process, we asked to have special arrangements made for a very special birthday. These were all confirmed by email and acknowledged by the hotel. As assurance, the day before, we made a specific visit to the Catering Manager and had confirmation that everything was in place. On the day itself, NOTHING had been arranged. A new crew was in service and they had no knowledge at all…if this was not disappointing and annoying, nothing else can be. It was absolutely unacceptable and the hotel was not able to do much beyond trying to please us with some sparkling wine and complimentary pies!! They can keep those to themselves!!! It’s a pit we had not read comments made by a fellow traveller in April. The individual had similar issues with catering and of course, the hotel response was that the feedback would be given to the catering crew. Obviously nothing was done. The hotel staff are great but the hotel management needs a kick or change out. They seem to think they are so exclusive that they don’t need to bother. There are plenty other options in the area at half the price. I would recommend staying elsewhere and simply visiting the hotel for tea. Quito has some super hotels in the area where you’ll feel significantly more special. Spend the money on other options. To the hotel…please don’t make promises that you cannot keep. Be honest with your customers. Don’t forget, they are paying for your existence.

Casa Gangotena, Quito - A must stop in the Historic District

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Historic, elegant hotel right in the heart of Quito’s Historic District. Our view was of the plaza. Great walking area with shops, old churches, parks and plazas. Really fun to walk around! Service was wonderful, very attentive and the restaurant was impeccable. I really loved the little bar with its dark wood interior and beautiful finishes. So comfy. Room was very spacious and we were given the same room the 3 times we visited! Beautiful bathroom! Thanks to Maria Emilia de Los Reyes from MetroJourneys for her expert assistance with our “Golden Triangle” trip! If you have not done this, DO IT. NOW. 😎
