Avani Quy Nhon Resort & Spa is a restful, exotic alternative to Southeast Asia’s beach scene. Nestled among age-old fishing villages, there’s ample opportunity for cultural exploration. Fish with a local in the nearby freshwater lake after a hike through dense vegetation inhabited by flying squirrels and monkeys, or soak up the areas fascinating history through visits to Cham temples and pagodas. Rooms are warmly appointed, with intricate ironwork and exposed brick accents complementing sea views.

My wife and I stayed at the Avani Quy Nhon to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We travelled from the south by train and used Grab to get us from the railway station to the Avani resort. I had stayed at the hotel 8 years previously with my daughter. the rooms are low rise, spacious and all with sea view. The reception, pool and dining areas are located to the side. the Avani shares some facilities with the anantara villas next door. I used the gym at the anantara each day. there was complementary yoga session each morning at the anantara spa, located behind the Avani. I had a different yoga teacher every day, on the second day it was Hue who took the class and gave me a head massage at the end. I have never had never experienced Yoga in such a relaxing situation. We were offered a spa promotion after the yoga session on our last day, which we took up. the 90 minute Vietnamese style massage with 15 minute steam room before was amazing well done Hoa. How many resorts brush the sand off your shoes you leave outside the front door ? Not many I guess but that’s what our room service did. As part of our booking a 3 course dinner was included, tasty local seafood and we were recommended an excellent Bordeaux for 799++. The Pho at breakfast was delicious, tried the chicken and seafood. I tried a Vietnamese breakfast, I the named the full Vietnamese! Steak, egg, chips, onion, peppers and gravy. the Avani shares the beautiful bay with the fishing village (excellent seafood restaurants) and backpacker (the haven) hotel and bar. You share the main beach with locals, travellers and holiday makers alike which Sarah and I love.

This hotel has a nice spacious layout - you arrive at an attractive open reception area with water features, close to the restaurant and pool, creating a very tranquil atmosphere. The accommodation is then in 3 adjoining 3 storey blocks along the back of the beach to the left, with all rooms facing the sea. We were delighted to be upgraded to a Junior Ocean Suite on arrival - a huge beautiful room with every possible facility, from a long work desk behind the bed, to two wardrobes so we could unpack properly after two weeks of travels, to sofas in the lounge area and on the balcony, a blue tooth speaker for us to play our own music, and great bathroom area with lovely shower room which had a floor to ceiling sea view and separate toilet. Unfortunately, whilst we stayed at the Avani, there was some unseasonably rough weather for March, so we had big waves and winds and couldn't fully enjoy the lovely golden sand beach and sea or the attractive (but cold) hotel pool as much as we wished, but there were nice sun loungers and umbrellas available, plus beach towels. This hotel had an excellent wide ranging buffet breakfast as well as eggs cooked to order and other local dishes. We particularly loved the range of fresh breads, cheeses and seemingly homemade yoghurts (wish we could get this type of yoghurt in the UK!). We ate in the restaurant one evening and that was good too, and also had a snack lunch by the pool one day which was very nice. We only stayed on a room and breakfast basis, but looking at the previous review complaining that the All Inclusive package "only" included a starter, main and dessert, I don't understand why this was not enough - portion sizes were large from our experience!! Perhaps not by US standards but good by UK standards! We also used the smart Jungle Spa up above the resort, which is run by the sister Anantara Hotel next door. You can access this via a a bridge from the 3rd block and then a walk up the hill, or via golf buggy from reception. We treated ourselves to a lovely professionally done couples massage in beautiful surroundings. We also took up the option of a complementary yoga session up there early one morning. Prices for both food and spa treatments are on the high side for Vietnam, but you get what you pay for! We walked round the headland to the sister Anantara Hotel next door and had drinks by their pool one day (note you can dine there too if you wish), but the Anantara is significantly more expensive per night and we were very happy we had chosen the Avani. The Avani was the perfect place to unwind as there's not much to do locally other than walk on the sandy beach - but at the other end of the beach is the local fishing village Bai Xep with some interesting beachside seafood restaurants very popular with Vietnamese (select from a wide range of live seafood in bowls). There's also a nice new bistro style restaurant just behind these called Ca Go which we enjoyed, plus the Haven tourist hotel as another option for food and drink - which is good for people watching - at the weekends the seafood restaurants are buzzing with locals who seem to have a penchant for bad karaoke:-) But don't worry, you can't here this from the Avani!! We arrived here by train journey from Da Nang to Dieu Tre (Quy Nhon) station (enjoyable and comfortable sleeper cabin, though not the posh Vietage one!) and then 30min drive to the hotel. After our 4 nights stay here we then had a taxi transfer from the hotel to Quy Nhon's Phu Cat airport for the short 1hr flight down to Ho Chi Minh City afterwards. We recommend this hotel as a peaceful seaside break from touring, off the beaten track.

Stayed at Avani resort in Qui Nhon for three nights. We booked Junior Ocean Suite with the “all inclusive” package for 974.40 USD. First, I wanted to say that the service was superb by the reception to housekeeping and service staff. They kept the room and premises clean. They are top of the line. That being said, the facilities and the food offerings are quite disappointing for the price paid. First, there were NO slippers nor bathrobes provided in the room (used flip flops were provided). There was also no razor available. For a five star resort (per Booking.com), this is certainly a complete let down. Second, for the “all inclusive” package, one can select only an appetizer, a main dish and a dessert for lunch and dinner. While lunch was adequate, we had to order extra dishes for each night. In addition, although the pack includes alcoholic beverages, wines are not offered and there was only one kind of beer (Saigon Green). We have stayed at many 5 star resorts in many cities in Vietnam, this is the most disappointing given it is rated as a star resort and the room price.

We loved our stay here. After traveling for 2 weeks from Hanoi down, we needed some downtime. We caught the Vietage train from Da Nang which was an experience! (I’ll do a separate review on that) From the very beginning Giang was amazing, her welcoming smile & positive approach had us impressed. She showed us our stunning room overlooking the beach & the best view from the bathroom ever! Nothing was a problem for her, every request was met with a ‘no problem’ and a smile. We enjoyed happy hour around the pool & dinner in the restaurant on our first night. We took an early morning walk along the beach & enjoyed a lovely breakfast with lots of choices. We had many lovely swims in the pool (only feedback is there are not enough loungers at the pool & the beach, it felt like the hunger games at times & people would hog them all or put items down & then leave for hours, some kind of control is needed) we avoided the beach as we weren’t sure how deep the water was! There is a lovely spa & I had a wonderful pedicure with gel polish with Trinh. She gave me an excellent foot & leg massage & my toes look fabulous. Thank you Trinh! I booked my partner & I in for a hot stone massage which we thoroughly enjoyed & the 2 girls were so good, I’m Sorry I can’t recall their names! I then had a facial again with Trinh & it was just what my tired travel weary skin needed. The girls at the spa also helped us when we had a bit of sunburn & they serve lovely hibiscus tea & little dried fruit treats after your treatments. Whilst not cheap, the spa is in a lovely jungle setting & the girls are so talented it’s worth every cent We had a small hiccup in the restaurant where there was a misunderstanding. But was handled well. All the staff were eager to please & always said hello & had a little chat with us & this more than makes up for any errors. Overall our stay was lovely & just what we needed. We will come back one day!
