Alila Kothaifaru Maldives

Our stay at Alila Maldives was absolutely incredible and easily one of the most memorable trips we’ve ever taken. The resort itself is stunning — beautiful villas, crystal-clear water, amazing food, and a peaceful atmosphere that makes you feel completely removed from the rest of the world. From the moment we arrived, the entire staff made us feel genuinely welcomed and cared for. The biggest highlight of our stay, however, was our host, Yoonus. He was truly exceptional and took our experience to another level. He was incredibly attentive, kind, professional, and always seemed to anticipate what we needed before we even had to ask. Whether it was arranging activities, helping with dinner reservations, transportation around the island, or simply checking in to make sure we were enjoying ourselves, Yoonus handled everything seamlessly. What impressed us most was how genuine his hospitality felt. Nothing ever seemed forced or transactional — he truly cared about making our stay special. By the end of the trip, it felt less like we had a host and more like we had a friend looking after us. Alila is very lucky to have him. The entire Alila Maldives team deserves recognition for creating such an incredible experience, but Yoonus is someone we will specifically remember when we look back on this trip. If you’re considering Alila Maldives, we cannot recommend it enough. It was a true five-star experience from beginning to end, and we sincerely hope we have the opportunity to return someday. And if you’re lucky enough to have Yoonus as your host, you’re in excellent hands!

We traveled from the U.S. with our one-year-old, so choosing a resort that would make the long journey worthwhile, and make our entire family feel welcome, was especially important. We arrived believing this would be a once-in-a-lifetime trip, but left already planning our return. The island is even more beautiful than the photos. The pristine beaches, clear blue water, and incredible marine life were everything we hoped for. We had the opportunity to experience both a beach villa and an overwater villa, and each offered something special. Both were spacious, thoughtfully designed, exceptionally clean, and equipped with excellent amenities. The beach villa placed us steps from the sand, while the overwater villa gave us direct access to spectacular snorkeling. Our villa host, Syn, was a major reason our stay was so memorable. From greeting us at the seaplane and introducing us to the island to helping us throughout our visit, she made our family feel genuinely cared for. The Sea Salt team quickly fell in love with our son. They remembered his silverware and silicone cup and warmly greeted him whenever they saw him. The breakfast pastries and buffet selections were also fantastic. Having an hour of babysitting allowed us to snorkel together while our son was well cared for, a win for everyone. Other highlights included a private lunch at The Shack and the rejuvenating Maldivian Indulgence spa treatment. The Globalist and management happy hours were also special because they allowed us to connect with the team through genuine conversations. The entire resort was consistently immaculate. Housekeeping handled every request quickly and graciously, always ensuring our villas had everything we needed. The airport team was also there to welcome us upon arrival and assist us again when we departed, handling our luggage and making both transfers seamless. The setting is breathtaking, but Syn and the entire team made the experience unforgettable. For families wondering whether the journey is manageable with a young child: it was completely worth it, and we cannot wait to return!

We are regulars to the Maldives (been 15x) and have enjoyed different options across different budgets, with highlights including Cheval Blanc, Soneva(s), and Waldorf, often combining 2 different hotels per stay. So far we have only repeated the Soneva and the Cheval Blanc. We are also Hyatt loyalists but have for the most part avoided Hyatts in the Maldives because they sounded unappealing. Last year we tried the Park Hyatt and its Kiaali residence. The room was spectacular and the overall service good, so this year we decided to try the Hyatt family again, combining a Soneva Fushi stay with a stay at Alila. We stayed on the beach at the new Boduge Residence. It was overwhelmingly a great stay and we would absolutely consider returning. Service is strong, efficient, but also discreet. You need help, it's there. You order at the restaurant and it comes very quickly and efficiently. Housekeeping was done as soon as you left the villa, so you would never cross paths with them. Sultan did a great job as a butler without ever being too pushy about adding additional paying options. Food was spectacular and Frank does a great job across restaurants. We loved every single meal we had. The island is super pretty and natural, impeccably manicured, and being a beautiful natural island, you feel the difference in beach and sand quality. I can't recommend spending a few hours at the shack enough (we had sundown dinner there and it was spectacular). The house reef is great and there are fantastic dive sites just around. We did Labyrinth and really enjoyed it. Over the years we've ended up preferring beach villas to water villas, and only stay in a water villa 1 out of 5 stays. We visited alternative villa types too, including the 2-bedroom (lovely) and the 1-bedroom beach or water villa. In our opinion the beach villa is the better choice, but if you dream of a water villa, they're perfectly fine and modern. There aren't many, though, so if you're a Globalist looking for an upgrade, I'd definitely opt to grab one in advance for a small upgrade fee. Given the numbers, getting upgraded at arrival doesn't seem guaranteed at all. For our part, we were six, and the Boduge Residence was awesome: modern, with a perfectly silent AC, and a great outdoor space that was incredibly discreet (no one can see you). All in all, it was probably one of the best value-for-money stays we've had, and this is probably all the more true if you stay in a single beach villa. The price versus size of villa, amenities, and beach is hard to beat, I think. We'd definitely return.

I highly recommend Alila Kothaifaru Maldives! The scenery here is absolutely breathtaking. We enjoyed magnificent ocean views, went sea‑fishing, and were lucky enough to spot dolphins during our trip. Dining options are rich and varied. Besides Western cuisine, Japanese food and other choices are available, catering to all kinds of taste preferences. The service was outstanding, and Tanya deserves special praise. She offered us tremendous support, and helped arrange a villa with sunset views plus a horizontal pool for us. What impressed us most was that right before our departure flight from Maldives, I realized I had left my laptop in the villa. Tanya took the initiative to help and arranged for her colleague to bring my laptop all the way from Maldives to China for me. She is incredibly kind, helpful and truly amazing. We had an unforgettable holiday and would love to come back.
