Reviews for The Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort & Spa

Used to love this resort, but now…

We are staying here now - we’ve been coming here every year for the last 4 years. Really disappointed in some of the recent changes which a staffer attributed to a “new GM”. They used to have cookies and lemonade outside the reception area for the kids (and adults) daily around 3 or 4pm. No more. Most importantly they always had a great happy hour at Pinz and Pints with two free drinks for hotel guests along with candy and pretzels. Now only the candy and pretzels remain. No free drink cards, no free drinks. Happy hour drinks are now $7 or more. They do offer one free game of bowling. They used to give one free game for every day we stayed. I may sound like I am just looking for freebies, but this resort is not cheap and I appreciated the little things they offered that were considered part of the resort fee. Now I’m just paying $50/day for the “free” WiFi. Lastly the Las Hadas pool was previously adults only and it was quiet and serene with poolside bar service. I have kids but I usually send them to the kids pool area that has a lifeguard. Now Las Hadas is crawling with kids, the bar is closed, and it’s just like the other kiddie pool here. No staff on site and even the gates are propped open with a rock so anyone can come in. I am sad to say we will probably seek out a different resort next year. Staff here are lovely and they are the standout part of our stay but the changes driven by greed are hard to adjust to.

can anyone reach the hotel, horrible service already

we have stayed here 3 times before, it was great every time. the manager was amazing. it is now a different nanager. I have sent at least 4 emails about some bookings we need to do on property - before we arrive for an upcoming stay. I even emailed the new manager directly. I talked to the call center in Asia (zero help they know nothing about the hotel - that took an hour), tried to do the online requests, i have no idea if they see it. Also I have held 4.5 hours on the phone for the front desk number for this hotel. how have people reached the hotel front desk? Instead of being on hold for hours for ‘all agents assisting other guests’? This is pathetic for any Mariott especially at their expensive rooms. Seems so bad already. going on hour 5 of holding for this hotel… These people are just leaving money on the table. I know it is important to do bookings before arrival because the public is also able to use all amenities on their property, they don’t priorituze guests. incredibly frustrating.

Disappointed after having high hopes.

I was really looking forward to staying here after reading the wonderful reviews, and especially after speaking to Elena when I called in a few days ago and explained that I had made a mistake of double booking two rooms not realizing they were both non refundable. Elena said she spoke to her manager, Nikki Higgins, and they would approve the refund since I still have our other room, so for that I am truly grateful for and really appreciate the lovely conversation I had w Elena over the phone. Unfortunately, things have been disappointing since checking in. I’m not asking for an upgrade—just the pool-view room we booked. The room we are in is next to the pool, but the patio is covered by bushes, so there’s no real view at all. I’m also claustrophobic, and the room feels very dark, which has been uncomfortable. I went back to the front desk and explained this to after seeing the room. When I asked for a change of room, Jason mentioned they had nothing available but that there were many checkouts today and that we should be able to switch rooms. This morning, I followed up at the front desk and spoke with Christopher (since Jason wasn’t there). He initially also said a move was possible, but nothing before 2PM. I thought I saw Ms Higgins walked by and thought of saying hello but I wasn’t sure it was her at first. I mentioned to Christopher that I had been helped by her and Elena but before I could finish telling him about what, he went to the back to speak to her and when he returned, his response was much more firm—that we are in the room we booked and that they couldn’t help. I was surprised, it was not what I had expected. I am not sure what was discussed, but I told Christopher that what I wanted was to let Nikkie know that I had brought in some goodies for her and Elena last night just as I had mentioned to her when we spoke a few days ago, but both of them were not there anymore when I checked in so I left the goodies w Jason. I felt hopeful last night, but today I’m feeling discouraged and a bit unwelcome. I had hoped things would improve, but I’m not sure that will be the case.

Beautiful hotel. Ryan at the front desk is amazing and so kind. Breakfast was also great, the male host (I didn’t get his name) was also very kind. First time staying here and will be my new spot for the summer.

Good mid-range resort choice in Palm Springs; Not a luxury property

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

I have to say this is a mixed bag. If you are looking for a mid-priced resort in the Palm Springs area this could be a good choice but this is definitely not a 5-star property. The Westin is in a beautiful location and spread out across at least a dozen 2-story buildings. It straddles a Pete Dye designed golf course with terrific mountain views. There's also a tennis center and spa, well equipped gym, as well as a large pool with a big water slide for kids. The rooms themselves are a bit dated in terms of decor (wall to wall carpet, shower/tub combos instead of walk-in showers) and most surprisingly there are no elevators so all second floor rooms can only be reached by climbing up a staircase. Not great for those with heavy luggage or kids in tow. Additionally, the hotel check-in and valet area were understaffed at all times )although a call out to Nikki, who was cheerful and helpful). We drove up and there was no one at the entrance so we just left our car in the driveway and walked about 75 feet to find the check-in area on our own. We received complimentary breakfast as part of our Marriott status which was a large standard buffet that was average. The hostess was quite rude but wait staff at the restaurant were incredibly helpful and friendly. Self parking ($23/night) is available next to each building, which is quite convenient. We never saw a valet parker at any time. One final note, at least this time of year there are dozens of large geese that park themselves on building rooftops and the golf course. They make a ton of noise in the early morning so an issue of you want to sleep in.
