About the Hotel

Embodying the spirit of adventurous travel and cool Nordic design that dwells in its sister property Ion Adventure Hotel, the 18-room Ion City Hotel is the citified version of Ion’s original award-winning countryside retreat. Located in the heart of Reykjavik, with access to many shops, cafés, bars, and restaurants, Ion City is housed in a smartly renovated building that retains its original architectural beauty yet is augmented by outside walls featuring a motif inspired by traditional Icelandic weaving. Inside, guests discover luxuriously organic interiors defined by clean lines, Icelandic art, and a palette of gray and white, contrasted by warm-hued wooden floors. Here, a world of gunmetal grays, fine-grained woods, and regional design pieces are bathed in light that spills in through large windows that offer expansive panoramic views of Reykjavik. A stay at Ion City also includes farm-fresh cuisine, a go-to bar for locals, a gym, and a private dining room.

Great location to stay for a night

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

The location was perfect being right in the heart of Reykjavik! Staff checking us in were very kind - we were offered a glass of bubbles upon arrival. We stayed for one night and the room was cozy and clean. We were able to walk everywhere from here so we felt the value was good! The only thing that was not great was the noise from one of the bars down the road (not the hotel's fault) but if you're sensitive to noise while sleeping it may not be great - I had to put my headphones in for a few hours between 11pm and 2am.

Virginia and the team make this place special!

Truly enjoyed my stay here. The location is as good as it gets in Reykjavik; everything worth seeing is walkable, and there's a tour bus stop close by, which made tour pick ups easy. The hotel is cozy, clean, and well-kept — the room was in great shape; nothing felt worn down or neglected. The property also felt safe and well-maintained throughout. Virginia at the front desk was exceptional. Every interaction with her was genuinely a pleasure — professional, warm, and positive every single time. She stood out in the best way possible and honestly made the stay even better. My new go-to hotel whenever I am in Reykjavik!

A gem in the city centre

Cool little and I mean little hotel. Our room was incredible! Amazing views and a sauna on the balcony. Super helpful and friendly Staff. The only down side is that it is located in an old building that shares a ventilation shaft with the restaurant next door so the smell of smoking meat permeates the corridors and the lobby at all times. It can be a little much but the rooms didn't have this issue. All in all a great stay other than the oder. Location is super close to everything, but taxis will have to drop yo half a block away as there is not vehicular traffic on the street, it is a pedestrian walkway.

ION City Hotel - highly recommend

What a great boutique hotel, perfectly located on a mainly pedestrian street in the heart of Reykjavik. Close to the church, rainbow road, harbor - could not have been more perfect and the staff were all so very friendly. Would highly recommend it!!!!

Cute Small Hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 9 months ago

The location of this design hotel is the best you can get in Reykjavik .It's centrally located on the main street. The front desk staff is extremely helpful; they arranged cabs for us and helped us keep our luggage in storage. Very polite people. However, it's a very small and boutique hotel, the rooms are very small, and there is no breakfast area. One can have breakfast at many cafes around this place.
