About the Hotel

Embodying the spirit of adventurous travel and cool Nordic design that dwells in its sister property Ion Adventure Hotel, the 18-room Ion City Hotel is the citified version of Ion’s original award-winning countryside retreat. Located in the heart of Reykjavik, with access to many shops, cafés, bars, and restaurants, Ion City is housed in a smartly renovated building that retains its original architectural beauty yet is augmented by outside walls featuring a motif inspired by traditional Icelandic weaving. Inside, guests discover luxuriously organic interiors defined by clean lines, Icelandic art, and a palette of gray and white, contrasted by warm-hued wooden floors. Here, a world of gunmetal grays, fine-grained woods, and regional design pieces are bathed in light that spills in through large windows that offer expansive panoramic views of Reykjavik. A stay at Ion City also includes farm-fresh cuisine, a go-to bar for locals, a gym, and a private dining room.

GREAT OPTION IN REYKJAVIK

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

The Ion City Hotel in Reykjavik is a beautiful, modern hotel with spacious, well-designed rooms. The service is quite good, and the location couldn't be better. Located in downtown Reykjavik on Laugavegur Street, you can easily walk to Hallgrímskirkja Church, the Sun Voyager, or the Harpa Center. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Home Away From Home with the Best Staff

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

My husband and I had the most phenomenal stay at the Ion City Hotel! The location is convenient to amazing restaurants, coffee shops, bars, and nightlife. Although there is no parking onsite, there are several options within a block that are convenient and easy to use, even while carrying luggage. The accommodations were perfect and we had no complaints whatsoever about our room. You can see from the pictures how great this hotel looks, and I can confirm that the pictures reflect the truth (for the Jr Suite at least), but the main reason I wanted to write this review was for the remarkable staff members. The maid service was so kind and helpful, but also impeccable in their service. Everything was cleaned extensively, and I felt like we were moving into a new apartment, not just a hotel room. I also have to give a special shout out to Javier and Virginia, 2 of the front desk receptionists. They went above and beyond over our weeklong stay to make us comfortable and treated us more like long-time friends rather than just customers. Each time we entered the lobby, they always had smiles on their faces and we had so much fun just relaxing and talking with them. My husband and I have travelled extensively, and I can honestly say that we have never before had such an amazing experience based on the remarkable staff alone. Thank you for all that you do and helping us have the best vacation yet! Until next time, cheers!

Amazing Location

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 months ago

This a small boutique hotel, comfortable rooms, wonderful front desk service. They helped me arrange transportation to and from the airport. A delight to talk to each day. The rooms are cozy but all you need for a stay in Iceland. We dined at the Lebanese restaurant next door and it was awesome. Location is unbeatable and it was fantastic to be able to walk everywhere. Wish they had a wake up call for the northern lights.

Beautiful hotel -- Virginia was incredibly helpful & kind!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 months ago

I ended up in this hotel because I had an accident hiking and broke my ankle in multiple places. I came directly from the hospital here and was in bad shape. Everyone was nice but Virginia went above and beyond every single time I encountered her. She was warm, compassionate, highly competent, and very helpful. I truly appreciate Virginia's care and compassion that she showed me while I stayed in this hotel. (one thing to note: this hotel is on a pedestrian street so not an ideal choice if you have mobility issues as most cabs will not bring you to the door).

Great Boutique Hotel

The hotel is in an amazing location beautifully designed and offers just exceptional experience. Virginia at the reception stops the show for us and really was the highlight of our stay. She was fun helpful and easy to chat with. Parking is a little tricky but with some help from Virginia we found a spot about 2 blocks away.
